Anyone else think the trees look awful, as if made out of plastic, when the camera is of a birds eye perspective?
Can't find this part in the video :?
What if it's a youngVisari clone.
Yeah, I couldn't either at first. But it's from the trailer, not the gameplay video.
I thought it sounded kinda like Mark Strong. Even if it's not, it would probably be a relatively well known Brit. After all, they got Brian Cox, Ray Winstone, and Malcolm McDowell in their old games as lead antagonists.I wonder who that voice is during the trailer.
I want to talk about Killzone. Who wants to talk about Killzone?
Apparently, the guy from B3D who stated that info is a dev.

E3 this year will be insane, that's all I gotta say

Imagine what they can do in terms of AA and post processing effects by dropping the resolution to 1280x1080 or 720p.
PS: Don't kill me.
It'll be interesting to see if MS follows the suit with 1080p (soft) norm or whether they go 720p, in which case, it will be interesting to see what kind of fidelity advantage made come at the cost of pushing extra pixel.
That would be awesome. Dat Helghast helmet UI <3

Not all that surprising to me. While the trailer looked insane, there was nothing really that seemed to demand more than 1.5GB of VRAM. 1080p and some AA with those textures does not need more than 1.5 GB.
Why would MS mandate 720p?
That would be insane and suicide.

I thought because of the 8GB GDDR5 RAM and 32 ROPS, 1080p should be easy to achieve?
So why isn't 1080p + 60FPS possible?
(More memory = higher resolutions. Higher ROPS = more pixels drawn on screen).
Why would MS mandate 720p?
That would be insane and suicide.

People talking about the game using 1.5gb vram, isn't vram the ram on the graphics card? Surely there isn't a lot more than 1.5gb ram on the graphic card in the ps3?
Or am I completely wrong?![]()
But surely the 32 ROPS and GDDR5 should facilitate 60FPS with good level of fidelity without sacrificing 1080p?Oh yes, absolutely. However, what I mean is that whether there are fidelity related benefits that can gained by sacrificing resolution.
I did not say that they would mandate 720p. I wrote about how the introductory games from Sony are 1080p and whether MS would follow the suit. If not and if they stick to 720p + X amount of AA, I wonder what kind of gain in fidelity would be achievable as a commensurate compensation for not pushing 1080p.
If i recall it its 8GB of unifeD for CPUGPU, so basically 8GB of VRAM
But surely the 32 ROPS and GDDR5 should facilitate 60FPS with good level of fidelity without sacrificing 1080p?
I hope the game starts with old man Rico in a chair, alone and reviled by everyone, only to be assassinated brutally by one of the cloaked Helgast as revenge
Cut to "SHADOW FALL"

I've seen people say they'd rather have 720p@60fps than 1080p@30fps...
While I obviously would prefeer 60fps instead of 30fps. 720p just looks so shit compared to 1080p.
So they went from 2 to 4 to 8 without a dev kit update?
I wonder why a change so drastic so fast. Maybe sony saw the durango special sauce

I think so too since the game is 30 years after KZ3, if we see the m8 it will be a "futuristic" version. So I gather this hi tech gun will be your main weapon and not the m8?
makes sense considering your some sort of super soldier. and I hope the slow motion focus mode can only be used sparingly.
probably more to do with pricing negotiations on the ram supply as to what they can get away with for their expected cost of final hardware.
Also the early dev kits (from kotaku rumors) only had 2gb vram but also had a ton of system memory so it's not so much a case of going 2-8 but finalising the end specs.
They are already in the future.I hope to see stronger visual design evolution in the mech style and military uniforms.
This story takes place 30 years after the last Killzone. No real world army looks or fights the way it did 30 years ago. The overall designs of the armies in Killzone should reflect 30 years of design evolution.
One nod to this: main character seems to be using a railgun to fight. That's an impressive tech advancement. I want to see more stuff like this!
You wouldn't get the same visuals, and 30 fps isn't a handicap. It's, like I said, a design decision.
Now that you mention it, adding Mirror's Edge-like 1st person traversal to the game would go a huge way in making it stand out from other shooters. Hell, the city is right there asking for it. I like the idea. Signed, a Mirrors Edge and KZ2 fan...
To be honest a lot of people didn't think PS3 was a generation leap over PS2, it was more PS2 on steroids with better texturesI understand this, but do you honestly think it's a generational leap? I suppose since I work in graphics I'm not as impressed as some people, and Crysis 3 really set the bar for shooters. I also wished developers put more effort into making the camera sway more realistically, along with better animation.
Some of the geometry looks very current-gen to me, but I do agree that the fancy effects are a welcome addition, as I said earlier.
They are already in the future.
Futhermore, Gulf War vs Afghanistan War hasn't exactly been a huge difference.
Sure it is - the BDUs, use of drones, etc.

Don't understand why so may of you continue to post this after the conference. The machine before the upgrade can now do 1080p @ 60fps. Carmack came out gave his blessing before he knew of the upgrade and GG games has not even touched anything over 2gigs for this demo. So sit back and think about that for a moment. You have a very high lvl of IQ at 1080 with a 30fps FR using that drop of ram. The ability to do 1080 with ease was already there when it was shown the system has a 32ROP count. Are we still not understanding what 8gigs of UNIFIED GDDR5 brings to the table?? Its like we go in circles here on GAF.
If devs want to map the universe at 30fps then thats their decision but the machine is now quite capable of pushing the geometry of a game like crysis 3 at that res with a 60 count.
On the flip side, they still use C4. Which is kind of funny. One nod to this: main character seems to be using a railgun to fight. That's an impressive tech advancement. I want to see more stuff like this!
I skimmed through the last few pages just to post this. It seems people were going on about downsampled 4k shots? Here is the original 4k shot not downsampled released on the PS blog:
I don't know about bullshot or not, but there it is anyway. There are some jaggies, but isn't this essentially zoomed in? So much nitpicking. o.o
Edit: open the image in a new page or something, because it is too big (for some) to not be put in quotes.
link to the rest of the shots: http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/8492669883/in/photostream/
Edit2: ...forgot that these were press shots >_> welp
So your point is that people should not call the 4k shots downsampled since they're not right? Makes sense.
Still though, they're 4k shots with a ton of AA. The game ain't gonna look that good.
On the flip side, they still use C4. Which is kind of funny.
Where in my post did I even say that? All I did was link to the original 4k shots and mentioned that they were press shots which means bullshot/touched up. How do you downsample a picture that's already sized 4k unless it was bigger anyway? >_> Geez some people.
Someone said people will be eating crows once it releases later. We will see.
The way you wrote your post, made it seem as if you were correcting people that called the 4k shots downsampled. By pointing out that the press shots were indeed not downsampled.
