Beer |OT|

Where I'm at most Bell, Stone, and Great Lakes offerings are really easy to come by, but it seems like the stout/porter specialists (my favorite styles besides belgian stuff) are located elsewhere.

Anyway, on the lookout for that new Victory Saison, which should be dropping within the next week.
 
guys if you want a really high abv beer this is probably the best:

Had a bottle of New Holland's Farmhouse Hatter last night, good not great. It had all of the wild funk smell I love in a Belgian IPA but the flavor was just too mild for my tastes.

QR code on the bottle says it was last shipped in June 2012 so I'm guessing some of the hops have faded by now, which explains a lot.

Eventually they actually get harder to crack as the older they are the rarer they are and you start thinking about things like "This is worth $$$ in trade value I could get something sweet!" or "This is my last one I have to keep it"... but the point of beer is to drink it.

If I get multiple of something rare, I'll save/age one. But I am going to enjoy one right away!

I'm in the spot now where I'm sitting on a stockpile of stuff going all the way back to 2008, just waiting on the appropriate occasion to open them up. It's nice to have a backlog of sorts, but it's a kind of hoarder mentality that's probably pretty unhealthy.
 
Noticed a nearby liquor store has a 12oz bottle of Brewdog Tactical Nuclear Penguin for $90.... lol

Supposedly is 32% ABV. The price is insane though. Everything I have read says this beer is not worth it, I guess it is just a novelty or gimmick beer trying to sucker you in. I almost wonder if it is worth getting to try to trade with.

God damn man, 32 ABV? I saw something similarly insane the other day when I ran into Ghost Face Killah. It's brewed with Jalapeño, Habanero, Serrano, and the Ghost chili (Jolokia) pepper. I don't know why the fuck anyone would want to drink it but I really morbidly curious about it, except I don't want to have my stomach pumped afterwards
 
I just saw that my local place here has Fat Head Head Hunter IPA. Is it worth $12 for a four pack?

I have never had it before. Some people are comparing it to Zombie Dust which I find suspect since Zombie Dust is an APA, right?

Yeah but Zombie Dust is pretty hoppy for a APA.
 
Keep in mind those beers are discounted because they are old. I would pick the styles that matter less about being old. The Petrus Oud Bruin is a great deal for $2.

Batch was nothing extraordinary but it was very smooth and I could see myself enjoying a bottle of that after a long day or with food.

Little Sumpin' had a bad flavor for me. I'm a total illiterate ignoramus when it comes to burr so that's really all I can say about it for now. Maybe I need to give it a second chance...I dunno. I did try another Lagunitas beer called Maximus and remember liking that one though.

What kind of beers do you normally like? I loved Little Sumpin'. I'd easily consider it the best beer that I can get at your typical grocery store (around here at least). Maybe you're just not a fan of IPAs.

Lagunitas sucks, Hop Stoopid and Maximus are my personal favorite lagunitas beers. If you have access to LS and HS pick them up.

Of course, but for some of them age doesn't really matter. I mean, last season? That's nothing for a stout or anything with high abv. Anyway, I picked up the Oud Bruin and the bottles of Avery Old Jubilation because I know they will age well anyway.

I've had both so I passed on the $6 bottles. I'm lucky to have many good beer joints in town. One place will serve 12 random bottles (several of them bombers) for $20. It's te super bucket, and given they have over 300 different bottles, you never know what you might get, but all of it will be craft.

If you haven't had Lindemans Cuvee Rene, try that out too. One of the best cost/quality ratio sours out there.

Definitely the best widely distributed one I've had, but living in Kentucky I get a lot of bourbon barreled stouts. My favorite so far was Country Boy's double imperial stout aged in Pappy 20 year barrels.

Ew no, though they have a new coffee bourbon stout that is very good. Don't think it has much distribution yet, but if you see that definitely try it. The local craft beer explosion here in Lexington is forcing Kentucky Ale/Alltech out of their comfort zone. They are launching an IPA in talboy cans as well.

Let me know if you're ever bored and want to come down to Lexington and have some beer. We have really good beer bars (Chase Tap Room, Beer Trappe, Lexington Beerworks, Arcadium, Marikka's), a few good beer restaurants (Pazzo's and Village Idiot), plus breweries like West 6th and Country Boy.

You mentioned stouts and porters. Don't you get Southern Tier or Founders up in Cincy?
 
Yeah, I get both, but they're usually the exact same offerings. Founders Breakfast Stout is great, but it's everywhere. And yes, I will definitely have to take you up on that offer.

I had Canadian Breakfast Stout before at GABF. Decent. Needs more of a maple presence though. I love oxidized maple flavors in beer, like in Utopias.

I've had that. I liked it, but I really like black IPAs. I also liked Brooklyn's There Will Be Black and Country Boy's Heart of Dankness is about 9% of kick your ass.

I don't like Black Ipas as much. The hops and dark malts combine in an unpleasant way for me. I much prefer hoppy red ales over hoppy black ones.
 
We have Three Floyds Pride & Joy at Neons, but I definitely need to check that place out soon to X out another Three Floyds at least.

Three Floyds is the weirdest brewery to me for some reason. One of the few breweries left for me that has any sort of mystique.

I think a lot of it is that I have never lived in an area within the distribution of Three Floyds. Ten years ago, I felt like Stone had a mystique about it. But that was living in Florida where Yuengling was good beer.

That's quite a lineup. I'm pretty sure I've talked about Brooklyn Black Chocolate before, but I'll gush some more. It's not my favorite stout (that title goes to Stone's Russian Imperial) but it's probably the most chocolatey I've had. It is simply delicious. I will never turn it down.
