Metal Gear Rising spoiler thread: God Bless America!

Ive been thinking about this theory. Like someone said earlier yama means mountain correct?

Here are some lyrics from Sam's theme: "Because the mountains don't give back what they take"

and

"I must climb this mountain range"

Sundowner's: "Arid winds blow across the mountains, giving flight to the birds of prey"

Winds of Destruction on on Mt Gubayama?

you solved it

The scenario writer mandated that the game's composer write the words mountain into the lyrics of two songs to fit in line with some one-off codec gag most people probably won't see

Oh my God, Sunny is one of the most adorable things ever to exist in a video game. Listening to her and Raiden talk on the Codec and hearing the clear and blatant love in the voice of a guy whom normally you can count the number of people he gives a fuck about on one hand hit me right in the feels. And she regards him in the exact same way.

She's more of Raiden's child than John ever was. XD

I'm still trying to cope with the Senator Armstrong boss battle in this game.

It just doesn't fit fit the general tone of the game. The cinematics with armstrong reach God Hand levels of humor, and even if that's make me happy, I think it just doen't fit the general tone of the game...

I just finished the game for the first time last night and I'm knee deep in my second playthrough, and a I strongly disagree. Armstrong is perfect for this game. What tone are you talking about? The entire tone of the game felt like Doctor Strangelove to me. It's an indictment of U.S. foreign policy for the last 13 years. The funny thing is this game's story had more to say in six hours than the entirety of MGS4. The beauty of Armstrong is that it's a reflection of our current political state. Maybe I'm just projecting, but Armstrong seemed like like a combination of George W. Bush (University of Texas), the Tea Party and Any Rand-ians and fighting him was god-damn awesome. The fact that people think Armstrong's awesome or that they are saying, man, well, I can can kind of agree with him blows my mind. When Raiden said he was "batshit insane" I was fist pumping into the air. We're so used to the Metal Gear franchise being so super serious, but, seriously, the Armstrong fight was some Mark Twain level of satire.

If this is just a side story, I can't wait for Ground Zeroes because Kojima said he'd be tackling "taboo" subjects. The fact they had the balls to even set a level in Pakistan with this game earns my respect.

Armstrong's speech is not only the manliest speech ever issued, it's actually something I kinda agree with... uh... I mean, to an extent.

Raiden used Kenshiro's hundred hand crack, but it didn't do shit, because Armstrong is not only a boss, he's the boss.

Don't fuck with this senator.

True that.

I disagree also that Armstrong put in the wrong kind of tone for this game, though I understand Young Nobleman's point. I first saw Armstrong and thought it'd be boring, like Jim Houseman piloting a MG, just another politician letting a plan or machine do the work for him. Then he showed his truer power, and I basically saw Platinum sort of giving us a Solidus for the game. The goofier sides of that fight really don't take away how threatening he was to play, and all he stood for. It almost became another Vamp vs Raiden fight in-terms of nanomachines vs cyborg tech. Glad cyborg tech won.

[slight MGS4 rant]
But I also disagree a little with Gillian on MGR vs MGS4 in what they said. In a sense, they're a little equal in what they do to me - surpassing some expectations. MGR had much more story content than most side-stories I've ever seen or played. MGS4 just had the daunting task of wrapping everything up to that point, but also making points on universal control, vitamin (nanomachine) consumption, reliance on tech, and (depending on Kojima), a chronological end to the Snake legacy, and did all of those things pretty well, to my satisfaction. I would've liked more action than talking for 4, but not to take any of the talking 4 had.
[end rant]

I would have never guessed to hear somthing like: The good old days after 9/11 in a videogame, after mgs2 was modified 12 years ago, because of that.

I didn't realize before I saw this fan art, but their relationship is kinda similar to Gray Fox and Naomi.

Except Raiden didn't, y'know, kill Sunny's parents and shit lol

Er, what Mistral chapter in Europe? That was still in Africa.

The Mistral chapter takes place in Abkhazia, which is in Europe.

If both Africa and Abkhazia didn't have any influence on Armstrong's plan, which was to assassinate the US president in Pakistan to instigate War On Terror 2.0, then that's just plain bad writing. They should have written something that mattered, something that had repercussions; not empty filler.

Oh well; the game is still awesome.

Fuck yeah.

Indeed, a case of their respective parents instead having been killed by the same person through Solidus (well, Sunny's mother anyway). An unfortunate circumstance to have in common, but yeah.

YES!

That whole researcher holding the kid hostage - all he needed to do was throw the damn knife at his hand... or head. So ridiculous.

Regarding that, was anybody else confused and kinda pissed that they didn't show what Raiden did to him ? Raiden swung his sword while the guy was still holding the kid, and the only thing we see is a close-up shot of his face in pain. No body shot or nothing. So lame.

Pretty sure they couldn't put out a game or get through ESRB/PEGI with a kid slashed in half in one scene.

Armstrong..... so good.

And the "nano machines, son" was like they acknowledged every joke. All the jokes, the small jokes and the big jokes.

Armstrong had a reasonable speech at first ( maybe a bit violent in the carry out stage) , but i liked how i get more insane as it went on and less and less likable.

I only read the first 5 pages - did people really not understand the right way to beat Sundowner? You can destroy his shield piece by piece which i thought was amazing.

He was the easiest boss by a country mile. You don't even have to deal with his shield nonsense.

Defensive offense absolutely destroys him.

i agree, but killing him that way is just no fun.
i bet most people probably couldn't line the sword slices correctly on his shield. it was just satisfying to do three perfect slices on his shield and then cut off two parts of his shield.

---
i just beat the game for the first time. i played on 'hard'. I think hard should have been 'normal'. I had barely problems in the game. can't imagine how simple 'normal' must be.
Also i don't get the comments about the last boss being cheap. great final boss fight. Figuring out how to stop him from regenerating was such a cool 'Ahhhh'-effect.

Except he didn't slash the kid in half. There was no reason for the slash to be censored.

I didn't know that. This should say something about the boss design. It's quite the oversight. All I did was attack his back, block his riposte, run around him and attack his back again. Repeat. That's all I did.

Armstrong is like the perfect love child of GodHand-esque Platinum Games and Metal Gear KojiPro insanity. The embodies everything so ludicrously silly and fun about both.

I need a gif of the beginning of the Sam fight, with him and the player WALKING at each other. STATS.

He lost his arm

He lost more than an arm. Actually, it looks like one of his arms is the only thing he didn't lose aside from his head. Listening to that optional codec conversation about the immediate aftermath of the swipe is a little creepy.

Yeah he pretty much lost everything but the upper left half of his torso and head. That's why when they talk about him they refer to his "new body" and not just new arm.

No way they could have showed that.

Raiden also talks about how easy it was to keep the kid alive using those liquid container things you see throughout the stage in one of the codec conversations. Lol.

Cutting George in two made no sense to me.

I thought it was going to a Blade Mode sequence where you had to avoid cutting him, like those hostage cutouts from the demo but nope -- Raiden just splits him in two like nothing.

Poor George I'm glad he survived. Now he can hook up with Sunny.

George calling Sunny cute and Sunny's shocked expression was cute.

After that scene they should of just showed a ghostly image of Olga in the sky giving a thumbs up to George.

i was expecting a Blade Mode moment too, was pretty disappointed that it was just a cutscene.

and hey, if you were to accidentally hit George, they didnt have to show anything, just cut instantly to black Game Over screen or something :P

pretty sure he still have his lower half somehow, there are codec with doktor saying how thoughtful of raiden to keep the lower half so George can still have kid. lol

maybe Raiden did cut him in half but the doktor is still able to attach the lower portion of his body or something

What I wanna know is how come Raiden nearly murdered George in the process. I mean, even in the VR training in the demo you are show how to slice people with hostages without harming them. Although a situation like that never occurs in the real game... foreshadowing!

I think every gaming podcast I listened to with an MGR review said how bad the Armstrong fight was because he regains all of his health to full multiple times. Face palm.

They have his lower half in storage. Except for his head, left arm, and upper left torso, George is all cyborg. There's some artwork you can unlock that shows you.

Oh yeah I remember this now :lol oh god..

Yeah it felt way too forced to me, the dude can walk on missiles but isn't fast/precise enough to cut the scientists gun wielding hand off.

You can see his robot feet in a cutscene. Unless Raiden made a weird J-shaped cut, he's missing a lot.

There's an alarming number of reviews of this game by people who don't know how to play. I've seen at least three that complained that there's no dodge button. I guess having it mapped to two buttons is confusing to them.
