Sim City is now down, the maintenance message is amazing

There's absolutely no problem with digital future/always online. Not at all.

Also, can't wait to play SimCity in 15 years like I can play Simcity2000/3000 right now.

Has any company ever successfully launched a high-profile online game without having this issue? It keeps happening time and time again.

What's considered the best sim city?

I have the snes version, sim city 3000 unlimited and sim city 4 which I got off the origin free games fiasco but have never played.

Sim City 4 Deluxe plus mods ranks right up there at (or close to) #1 if you polled 100 Sim City fans.

A lot of people like SimCity 2000. You can get it on GoG for ~$5. It's similar to 3000.

Dammit I should have done that.

I got just about every other game they offered. Even racing games, I don't even play racing games.

I can't believe I didn't see SimCity on there.

You know what happened? I bet it was hidden in there with the Sims and I just skipped over it.

I remember the first week of BF3 being really pissed off.

The whole point of midnight launches and going out the release day to get a game, is to play it the first day. So when you can't it really sucks.

My big problem with 4 is that it seems like it's a pretty big hassle to track down all the mods and the game seems awfully finicky on working on many systems. Last time I tried to get the certain mods I was directed to SimCity forums and I had to make an account to download them and I don't think I ever even got them working right. Is there any easier way yet? Some big bundle that installs everything one time?

Personally, I think 2000 and 4 are the best. I don't think too many people will talk about computer versions of 1 or 3000, even though they are great games.

I actually stopped playing 3000 and 4 shortly after buying them many years ago because they would crash after about an hour or two pf play for me, so I stuck with 2000. Lately, I've been playing 4, and even though it does crash occasionally on one of my machines, it is amazing.

I really don't see why anyone would want a complete refund for an outage of one day. I'll have to try to get my Internet bill credited a few times every month when it slows down.

Then again, this online thing always pissed me off and I'm glad to see them feel pain for it. I can only hope the game tanks and some people are out on their ass, so folks like Cliffy can differentiate between short-term and long-term value creation.

When it slows down? Why didn't you say when it disconnects? That would've made sense.

99% of the people in this thread are going to get the next EA game, continue to support this shit and complain anyway

It's true, and I'm one of those, if a game is good I'd probably end up buying it. I might still get Sim City when the price drops significantly. I have a weak will when it comes to games :(

2 days now and i haven't been able to play a game i paid $60 for.

I would say that warrants a refund. I bought a game i cannot play, it's essentially defective. And if your internet goes out for 1-2 days they do credit you.

Why on Earth would you assume that I was only taking into account always online drm failure into my decision not to buy games on Origin?

Because you didn't provide a reason? And you posted your comment in a thread where a very specific problem is being discussed?

I know it probably has been asked a couple of times, but what happens in 3 years or so when EA decides to shut down the servers?

Pretty sure that's one of Sim City 2000's advisors. Now that I think about it, I'm almost 100% certain one of them always badgers you about having too many roads.

(Sim City 4 does the same thing. Streets are always endangered. :p)

its an old joke from cities XL

Ahhh, I knew that portrait looked familiar! I think it might be from the 1994 version of SimCity published by Interplay. Though it could be SimCity 2000, I just don't remember playing that as much back then. So long ago...

I still have CDs of both games though, lol.

You have too many servers.
You should remove some to save on maintenance.

Gotta say, GAF called this months ago, as soon as Always-On was announced. Good job, EA.

YOU CAN'T HAVE A REFUND! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!

SimCity SNES is a great game and will not and should not be forgotten!

How could anyone possibly know at this point? Any answer is going to be rank speculation (and because its involves EA no doubt wildly negative).

Since some old EA related memes have popped up, I just got this one I read earlier after a search:

LOL how long ago was this?

I don't know how I missed that FIFA story.

Absolutely reprehensible.

You know what is sick? It is not limited to EA Selling the old Wii Version as new. They did the exact same thing with the Vita version of Fifa. They sold the previous version of the game, reskinned the characters, and slapped a new year on it. The 2013 Version of Fifa on Vita was the exact same game as the 2012 version of Fifa from other consoles.

It is pretty ridiculous. IGN actually had a nice little write up about it RIGHT HERE

So glad I listened to my second thoughts and cancelled my Amazon preorder on Monday morning. I should have used the CAGROCKS coupon on Bioshock Infinite.

I'll wait until the eventual price drop and/or the upcoming expansion. It's EA... so you know expansions are coming.

Just read all those posts i must admit this is amazing in a sense and in a bad way ...

Way too many people expected this to happen anyway.

What is the next game to use this method of delivery/support ?

Love the <parameter:string> in the first screenshot in the first page :)
