Gaming GAF, do you judge others by their avatar?

Yeah, a little bit. I find that my take on video games and the gaming industry tends to clash with people who really love modern Nintendo. I've definitely noticed a correlation. I don't take it too seriously, though.

Yes, Erio the "high school deformed" anime character wrapped in a blanket. That was a tough couple of months on GAF for me lol.

Eh, nope. Never judge a book by it's cover.
Yeah. Take that to an interview, see how it works out.

People are judged by their appearance, it's a fact of life. I think the Avatar is about as close as we get to that on the internet, so it carries over naturally.

not judge, but after reading the post i usually take a look at the avatar and think "it all makes sense now".

Narolf, just wondering if you ever use something besides Versus gifs?

I remember people based on their avatar, but I don't judge them by it.
Though I guess I do question some people's taste when I see a really ugly avatar, or wonder why someone would choose an obnoxious one.

I don't always judge others by their avatar, but when I do I look for Persona.

:D

I do miss your Chie brain-freeze avatar, but your current one is pretty attractive.

I don't outright judge people by their avatars, but I'd be lying if I said a particularly fitting or obnoxious avatar didn't get me to look at their posting history.

And I do the usual associating people with their avatars after awhile, as I'm sure everyone now associates me with mine. >_>;

I'm still more familiar with your P3P Female MC and being Marrshu.

For example, if you go into a thread that's about some bad news about Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft, and you see a person defending them that has an avatar from one of the companies, do you dismiss what they're saying due to potential fanboyism?

I wish I could say that I didn't, but I find myself doing it from time to time. I just want to know if I'm the only one.

I usually don't. It's all about what they are saying and how.

Yeah. Take that to an interview, see how it works out.

People are judged by their appearance, it's a fact of life. I think the Avatar is about as close as we get to that on the internet, so it carries over naturally.

People are also killed every day, it's a fact of life, doesn't make it right.

So you don't like Neptune? :(

Well, yeah of course! But as some of the posts in this thread shows, people will assume something entirely different from this avatar than just someone who is a huge fan of Nep Nep.

I read posts, but I tend to remember people by their avatars, so when they change them, it can get a bit confusing.

...is what I'd like to say, but it's not the complete truth. Sometimes, I'll get a chuckle out of a post and avatar matching up too well. And on, somewhat rare, occasions, I will lay eyes upon an avatar and have a spontaneous, automatic adverse or positive reaction to it. I think it's human nature though, considering the IAT and all the other funny business our subconscious tends to do.

Sometimes the post content makes it very hard to ignore the avatar, but no i don't judge anyone here based only on their avatar.

I try not to judge people by their avatars.

However, I've put people on my ignore list so that I wouldn't have to see their avatars any more. My reasoning is that a person isn't their avatar, so I'm not really judging a person per se. I could disable avatars, I guess.

I try not to... but truthfully I will often skip over posts if I see nintendo avatars. (unless it's something old school)

I try not to read too much into chosen avatars, but sometimes you read a post, look at the avatar, and the correlation with post and avatar type is hard too ignore. That said, I have never avatar quoted or written off a viewpoint simply because their avatar suggests that they are part of Group X. Honestly, even if I am well acquainted with the poster's post history, I still try very hard in terms of resisting "of course you'd say that" ad hominem attacks.

I really try not to. It is such a small indication of who the person and what they like.

however, anyone can call me a Smutpeddler if they so choose.
