GAF, do you even like video games?

Be honest, do you even like gaming anymore?

  • Of course!

  • I do, but wish I had more time to play

  • Eh, I come in and out of the hobby

  • I liked games made before 10-15 years ago

  • I only really like a specific genre/game/series

  • I’m just here to troll

  • Does mobile count?

Yeah there's a lot of annoying stuff out there these days like GAAS and "Micro"-transactions but as a whole I've never had more games in my backlog than now and likely more as time goes on.
I game most nights unless I'm away for work, but as much as it's plenty of time, it's not enough to finish them all.

I'll only really complain about things that are actually broken, life's too short to waste time, energy and effort complaining about something that I don't like or simply isn't for me; I don't fill my day with negative shit when I just as easily could engage with positive things instead 🤷‍♂️

I've been reading GAF for 15 years. It seems like over the last few years sentiment here has become increasingly negative about all corners of the industry, from devs/publishers themselves to journalists, content creators, and other gaming communities.

Do we even like video games anymore, just yearn for a bygone era, or has complaining/trolling become your main engagement in the hobby?

Is celebrating the failure of a game you don't like more important than the success of one you do?
Read the clair obscure, elden ring and baldurs gate 3 threads, not the concord/dragon age etc, and understand the reason behind all the negativity. It's not that hard to win our hearts and earn our praise.

Much more selective nowadays. If a game doesn't pull me in the first hour or two I don't care if it rated 10/10 I'd just drop it like a turd and most likely never get back to it.

But when you see downers typing stuff like gaming is dying... you just want to smack them, not just laugh at them. Fact is we never had so many quality games in every genre you can think of at any point in history. Yes there are bad trends, mainly by big publishers, but NOBODY is forcing you to only play 'triple A' games by big studios that have very often limited leeway to try new things or gets overrun by rainbow inspired hairy characters with unheard new pronouns in their bios' that pushes their sickness into games vision. Just avoid those studios and you're good.

The poll results speak for themselves

A tiny vocal minority of complainers are very loud and obnoxious but the silent majority are just out there enjoying their hobby

Here's to the gamers, GAF!
