Gaming GAF, do you judge others by their avatar?

I tend to take people with anime girls as avs less seriously. And dudes with random hot chick avatars.

Nothing personal.

Agreed. Don't quite get why people want that to represent themselves in that manner. Unless of course they happen to be the random hot chick or anime girl, in which case it makes total sense.

No, and I don't know why I should.

It's all about the content of the post, not about what someone's avatar is.

It's hard with all the Kaz avatars, I know many are wearing them ironically but some threads can look a like a Playstation fanclub meeting. Changes the tone of the thread.

They might like that anime character or that random hot chick. If they can't put what they like as an avatar then what should they put?

Maybe I'll just burn you down instead.

Time for you to stop smoking and playing with lighters.

Yes. It's someone's personal choice in how they want to have their public comments represented and a reflection of the person. If you didn't want to be judged by it, you shouldn't choose an avatar.

I think the ones with sexualized 12 year old animated girls are pretty weird. I was cool with that stuff when I was actually 12 years old, but now that I'm a good ten years older than all these half-naked anime characters, the images elicit a subtle repulsion.

But I've never felt that sort of avatar discredited someone's post. Admittedly, however, I've yet to see it all.

Because they like said anime girls and hot chicks?

It's a weird thing to be wondering about, why else would you use an avatar?

Time for you to stop smoking and playing with lighters.
I just threaten to torch people because I'm terrible at quotes :P

for the most part I don't unless someone has a console specific avatar, or a really annoying or even creepy one, like a young anime girl blushing or something of that sort.

Only in extreme cases. Say, the cover of an Ayn Rand book or something. I want to hate Dice[train] for his avatar(s) but I've known him too long from GAF Steam chat and he's an alright fellow.

As someone who enjoys and supports all platform and wants to be read as being such. I might need to change my avatar after reading this thread.

Well I don't usually dismiss them, there will always be people being a fan of a game and using it as avatar, nothing wrong with that, I would've used a mgs4 avatar if I joined gaf before mgs4 came out.

I don't really judge anyone by their avatar or skip over their posts if they have one of a certain type. It just seems like a lame shortcut in thinking to dismiss someone's argument/opinion because of their avatar, and to assume something about another person because they have a particular type of avatar. I dunno.

I do like imagining the avatar saying the post though.

I'm always worried that people who are not familiar with Advance Wars won't take me seriously because they will think my avatar symbolizes 'Bam NeoGAF we fight for the videogame industry amirite guys' or something dumb among those lines, instead of the simple NeoTank/NeoGAF pun that it is.

I think your Avatar is pretty kick-ass and clever.

I think I'd probably have better conversations with talking breasts than with most human beings.
zkylon: "So, Talking Breasts, how's the weather?"

Talking Breasts: "Don't be such a boob! It's nippy."

zkylon: "Jeez, don't get your tits in a twist..."
