Wii U Satisfaction Thread

OK. I must have just gotten lucky with the last 2 times I played the game after the system update I got to exit while it never worked before.

I thought the Wii U upscaled Wii games, making them look better?
Unless you have a shitty scaler it'll look about the same. The only problem is that the Wii U has some underscan for Wii mode, meaning you'll have black bars all around the screen (imagine playing PSP on a TV but not to the same degree). It's one of the shittier parts of the Wii U.

My satisfaction has been dwindling of late, particularly in light of the last two eShop updates, in Oz at least, offering nothing other than Wiiware games as far as I am aware.

Saw Mass Effect 3 on sale today. Is it a decent option? It's gamerankings aggregate is good, but have heard people bash it because of framerate issues and the fact it's lacking all the DLC other versions get.

Where did u see it on sale at? I been trying to find it at a good price

K, so I love my Wii U etc. etc.
My gripe is how it deals with overscan. Is there no way to fix this? It's the only thing that bothers me to no end about the Wii U, I just can't stand looking at games with a good chunk not showing on the sides. It's especially ugly on the menus, NSMBU, and Mighty Switch Force. I've been playing exclusively on the gamepad as a result, which is cool, but I should be able to enjoy the HD, too.

In the case that anyone would like to maybe help me out:
Have a Vizio VW26L. Doesn't let me set the aspect ratio (locked at 16:9), can't access service menu, and basically there isn't a way that the TV itself can solve it. In this thread over at Nintendo Tech Forums, a user says that using one of these will fix it? Is this something worth trying? I see that my TV has an RGB PC, is this compatible at all? I apologize for coming in here with all this, but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing and I'm hoping someone can help.

Does your TV has a Just Scan option?

Will Darksiders II EVER go on sale?? I want to buy the game but not at that $60 price. $29.99 and you have a deal. THQ is already bankrupt anyway so I don't see why we can't get one last sale for the game. Grr.

I really regret getting the premium and not the basic. The black Game Pad looks disgusting and the console is getting scratches despite not having been moved since launch. It's such a fingerprint magnet. The white console would look so much better. :/

Yup

Why I flat out refused the premium despite the extra shit. The white just fits the console's look SO much better

Cool, I'm not the only one. I thought everyone was all about the Premium except for me. I used the money I saved towards buying a terabyte hdd.
My sole reason for getting the premium was the 10% money-back on eShop. That said, my gamepad has no scratches, though it is a grease magnet.

My thinking with the 10% back is I would need to buy ten $50 games to make up the price difference. I prefer buying physical copies of big releases and also I believe that you only get 10% back until sometime in 2014 (right?).

The big thing for me was I live in Japan where Nintendo Land isn't included. I definitely would have picked up the Premiuim if I lived in NA.

Picked the basic here because I wasn't going to use the eShop much for games available at retail. And white>black. Still, Nintendo Land was the first game I grabbed after getting the console :)

The ZombiU bundle with Nintendoland digital code netted me 5 bucks in digital points straight away. I wanted both games and black anyway, so that was a nice bonus.

Maybe you don't search enough. :P

I don't know your region, but here in Europe, you can get it for 15 € - 30 €.

I wish Amazon.com sold 3DS/Wii U eShop cards. I have credit on there, enough to buy Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (which is how I'm getting the game) but would love to get the digital version. They don't even sell GameStop or Best Buy Gift Cards directly. The one seller that sells gift cards. Giftcardmall seems a bit iffy. Reviews on other sites for that seller/store is filled with reports about getting cards that don't have balances, etc. Would have gone that route and bought the eShop card at GameStop if not for those reviews.

http://www.maximuscards.com is the only one I've used.

I was so sad that I had to get rid of my basic but I would have been stupid not to get all the extra stuff for about the same price that I paid for the Basic set (with my Walmart discount). But man, I don't like the black at all. The white looked AMAZING. I thought it was really stupid that they didn't offer the premium in both colors. I shouldn't be made to choose one color if there's two available just because I want extra stuff.

Thanks. Normally don't use eShop cards but have the credit that I wanted to use on the game initially. Then thought a digital version might be better but the money is pretty much stuck with Amazson.com. Oh well. I guess I could always use it for something else but that's an extra $60 out of my pocket I don't want to spent. Better to just stick with the phsyical version. Live and learn.

Still crazy that Amazon.com doesn't sell the cards when they sell PSN and Xbox Live cards.

I'm waiting on this and Ninja Gaiden to go on sale too. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks when the next wave of games hits they will drop.

I swear before I bought a Wii U there was a Nintendo Direct every three days, but now that I own one there hasn't been a ND for ages.

Chances are there's gonna be one this month; I wouldn't be surprised to see one announced within 10 days. March's heavy hitters (Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter, Need for Speed) are gonna be released, and they need to unveil what's their exact plan for Q2.

That, and remember, fiscal year ends this month.

I know this horse has been beaten again, and again, but I gotta say I'm really loving NSMBU. Now, I skipped NSMB, and NSMB2, so maybe that has something to do with it? Regardless, LOVE this new one. The graphics are so good, it makes me excited about future 2d games in general. There should be more of them.

I'm still lukewarm to NSMBU. I mean it's nice but feels so completely hollow. I also found the level design in NSMB2 to be surprisingly tighter/more interesting

See, I don't feel that at all. It has to be because I haven't picked up a side scrolling Mario game since NSMB1, for the DS. I mean, when I popped a brick, and I saw Yoshi pop out, I squealed with glee.

Totally understandable and I hope that's how alot of people get to experience NSMBU because once you've played one, holy shit have you played them all... more or less

I would give anything to have Yoshi's Island era Nintendo back

This. Just got every star coin. Its also special because its the first video game my 4 year old fell in love with. Odd having someone beg to watch me play a game. Lol. He's now a mario fanatic. Like father like son. NSMBU will forever be special to me and to him as well I'd assume. Thank you Nintendo for continuing your magic for another generation.

Yup. Got it for € 20 last month.

Beware PhantomR, Darksiders II is a bit "sloppy" as far as ports go. Got four hardlocks while playing.

Yeah, but I'm looking to get it digitally on the eShop though if at all possible. Thanks for the heads up on the hard locking, however.

You aint the only one wanting a Wii U Nd so bad. I really think we should see one soon regarding VC. Im not sure what Nintendo count as spring but hopefully sometime april. Im praying they have smw and all the dkc day 1. It would be a fucking blessing to play those on the gamepad goddamn I would be having my Wii U on all the damn time please Nintendo dont do 3 titles a month type shit. Please :(

Another thing I'd like to comment on, is how damn weird and unnatural using an analog stick in NSMBU is. I tried, but I just can't. Dpad all the way.

I just bought Black Ops 2 yesterday, because it was finally cheap enough. Well, it was still 39 euros, but still... Not too expensive. Anyway, man the single player game was short. I finished it in single night, and definitely didn't feel like I was getting my moneys worth. And the plot was silly comic book crap... The dual analog setup was surprisingly good, but maybe I'll switch to Wiimote when I replay the game. The auto aiming definitely makes the game a bit too easy...

edit: forgot to write the main thing I meant to write:
The frame rate definitely grinds to halt sometimes during some of the cut scenes. Looks like the cut scenes that were made using hi-poly models and better textures than the main part were left unoptimized. Saying that, the actual game play parts didn't have noticeable frame rate problems to me, and parts of the game even looked very good. And the analog sticks on the Wii U controller are pretty damn good, the last time I played FPS with a dual analog setup I had much more problems hitting and turning.

sorry if this was asked before but my GAF search skills are horrible...

I'm a happy WiiU owner, got it on launch right there at the NintendoWorldStore... awesome machine. But now i'm back in Brazil and i find myself torn... Thing is, importing games here is borderline insanity. Prices are totally disconnected from reality... I've got tons of friends in USA and i can still get games, just not on launch like most of you guys. But now we're in the digital era and i can, if i choose to, grab stuff like Monster Hunter, as soon as it is out and enjoy it during the launch crazy. The collector side of me is in ruins and is searching for reasons NOT TO go digital this gen... would you guys help?

One of the question i have is, how's the Nintendo Club points handled in digital purchases? do i still get a code that i can register when i want to, or is it automatic?

Another one... do downloaded games get a instruction manual? is it illustrated like the physical ones?

So Gaf? should i accept the fact that the last gen was the last one i could collect games and have a "video game drawer" ?

Are the digital prices bonkers as well? I'd just suck it up and go digital, brother. Sounds like you don't have any good alternatives...

I have realistic expectations (gaming since the Atari 2600) for launch consoles. The Wii U has been extremely satisfying for the time I've used it and the demos and Netflix usage keeps it on enough for it not to collect dust. 3 games this month to look forward to as well, with a shitload of quality software in the coming months.

There's....enough.

I do own a 3DS and high-ish end PC to occupy the times I don't have anything to play on the Wii U. So, yeah, I'm satisfied; my gaming life is good :-)

-You get your CN points automatically, but you still need to fill the surveys.
-Yes, all come with instruction manuals, some times they're even better than the printed ones (Thank ecology).
-Yeah, go all digital, it's great!

Similar situation as you in terms of import prices.

I've gone digital pretty much fully. PC, 3DS, Wii U. Just be sure to use the Canada eShop.

They come with a manual, but I don't think they're illustrated beyond controller layouts.

Club Nintendo is automatic I believe. You have to conduct surveys based on the games you've bought.

This is almost me exactly, just swap the Atari 2600 with the Commodore 64.

I've got two questions in regards to the BC if anyone would be so kind.

1. I've heard that the colours were washed out in Wii mode, is this true, and if so has a full colour range option been added?

2. Does it do any deinterlacing? Mega Man 9 was only 480i and I wouldn't be able to play it on my monitor, would the upscaling fix this?
