Any gun owners lurking...

If anyone is looking to build an AR15 M&A Parts has A4 flat top uppers, LPKs, and reasonable prices CAR stocks. You can purchase all three for about 590.00. 620.00 after shipping. Then the only hard part is to find a stripped lower that isn't price gouged. Seekins is the most reasonably priced one I've seen at 130.00 if you can catch them in stock. For magazines go to classicfirearms.com. Tapco polymer 30rd mags are 14.99 which is about the best deal I've found.

There you have it. AR15 under 800.00.

I am looking to buy my first handgun. I've been doing research for the past month and I don't think I'm any closer to making a purchase.

From my research I have narrowed it down some to Springfield, Glock, Ruger, HK, and Sig. There are just so many manufacturers and models to sort through.

I want something that is:
9mm or 40mm with good capacity
Gun is for the range and general protection.
Something that is not tiny still but able to CC.
Shoots smooth without a great deal of kickback.
Less than $800

Currently the SPRGFLD XDM 9MM 4.5" BITONE 19RD is my #1 choice but I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks for anyone that can help point me in the right direction.

If it helps, I went from a Glock 23 Gen3 to a Springfield XD Sub Compact (both 40 S&W). I like the XD a little bit more. Looks, ergonomics, the rougher finish on the slide is easier to pull back. The XD also has a loaded chamber indicator, and you can see when the striker is cocked back.

Any of those brands will be fine, and the Springfield is a fine gun. Just to throw something extra into the mix, I would suggest the Smith and Wesson M&P9. Simpler controls than the XDM, very good price, great aftermarket.

If you wanted to spend a bit more the Sigs are incredible guns, but you do have to pay extra over equivalent pistols from other manufacturers. Their SP2022 is pretty amazing though, and available very cheap lots of places since it is seen as their entry level gun. $499 at buds, you can probably find it cheaper.

Thanks, such a tough decision as each gun seems to have it's positives and negatives.

Just read some reviews on a few Sig handguns, they seem to have many raving fans. I will add them to the already long list.

Really any company you listed will make a good gun, if you have some ranges near you go rent a few and try them out, every bodies hand is a bit different, as are preferences. As long as you go with decent brands it is pretty rare to find a truly bad gun these days, unless you get a lemon, but no company is immune to that.

.22 lr is out of stock at some stores around me. Wtf?

What's a good holster for the Springfield XDS? Hip or ankle

Depends what model it is (subcompact or...) and what you tend to wear the most. During the jeans/pants climate times for me I use and ankle holster. If you don't wear high socks make sure to consider to get a wool or soft-lined one though, they can get uncomfortable to some. Only drawback is that the weapon isn't nearly as accessible as a in the pants/paddle style holster, but, it's much easier to enjoy things like sitting and getting in and out of cars lol.

I use both depending on where I'm going and what I'm wearing.

Where do you live? From your posts I doubt it's the US.

Houston. These are Wolf rounds though. Screw that Russian surplus. I don't want any corroded cartridges in my weapons. A few decades ago I fired an old 7.92 german round through my mauser and the brass pipe tore off and got stuck in the barrel. Had to have it machined out, which brought down the value of the rifle because the barrel was no longer in it's original pristine condition. Never again.

Ya! After a 3 day wait I was able to pick up my FNX 40 today!

My problem with Wolf isn't even the corrosive primer or steel casing. The laquer they use for preservative is horrible. It gooes up magazines and it leaves shit all over the chamber when it all heats up during firing. It doesn't matter to an AK or SKS, but if you're using an AR or anything with a tight op rod, that crap is going to fuck it all up. There's only so much Butch's you can use before you pass out.

I have 3 guns, all for different reasons. First is Mosin Nagant 91/30 (1942). This thing is awesome for a bunch of reasons. It has a lot of history, it could've been used in war, it's incredibly reliable, sturdy and accurate, it packs a lot of punch, the surplus ammo is incredibly cheap (like 80 bucks for 500 rounds), it was really fun to learn how to restore it, and it only cost me 100 bucks.

I also have a Taurus PT92, modeled after the Baretta 92fs. I chose the Taurus instead of the Baretta because it's cheaper, however they used the same Barretta factories to create it (Taurus bought Baretta factories), and it's near identical to the 92fs except for the safety. Got a lifetime warranty with this baby, although i've had no problems with it whatsoever. Only thing I'd change is the trigger-pull weight, but it's supposed to ease up with more use. Only downside I've heard in compared to the Barretta version is that sometimes you get a lemon. Makes sense; Taurus inspections probably aren't as meticulous as Barretta's.

My third is a Savage 17hmr. I bought this thing solely for plinking purposes, but it has way more power and accuracy than a .22, the thing is a blast to shoot.

Good stuff. I have a PT92 and a Savage 93R17, and both are outstanding firearms. The Savage is particularly hilarious because I'm almost universally the only guy at the rifle range shooting at max range and doing it with a fucking rimfire. The mag on mine needs to be tweaked about every 20 shots, but otherwise I love my 93.

Gorgeous 6940! I'm still waiting for my 6920 to come in stock :( I ordered it December 19th. They estimated a 3 month wait at the time. About to be 4 months. I doubt I'll get it before the end of the year

What price did you order it at? I've seen a few pop up locally (Pittsburgh) for good prices.

I'd offer a vote for Ruger's SR9C. I bought one in January looking for much of the same, but also with ambidextrous controls as I am (and sometimes shoot) left handed. Two weekends ago I was hitting a 6" steel target from ~75 yards.

Has one of the nicest triggers I've ever fired. Extremely smooth.

Man I always get depressed when this thread pops up now. Living in NY sucks for gun ownership since now we arent allowed to have ARs unless we already owned them. Im just glad that I bought my Springfield M1a when I did, its by far my most cherished firearm.

My latest little project.

That's pretty dang cool man, I think this will be my next project as well. Here's my current SBR config, I think I'll just convert this since I already have registered SBR lower. Mind listing the parts involved?

Congrats. My family has a Krink SBR and it is amazingly fun.

Im super excited, it's being built right now. I'll post pics as soon as it comes in.

I think my next class 3 undertaking will be a full auto Mac 10.

Anyone ever use one of these? I want.

I ran one for a long time. The yellow triangle is nice, use the tip for precision and the while thing for fast shooting. The base can be used for close shooting with an AR to compensate for the high optic position. I think there is a chevron version as well as a dot.

Since it is unpowered you don't have to worry about batteries or on switches. This is a problem though if YOU are in a dark area and the target is in a light area (or lit up with your flashlight). The tritium element isn't bright enough to be easily visible against a bright background without some ambient light as well. Two ways to beat this. 1, they (used to?) make a little powered thing that sits on the light collecter so it will always be bright, or 2, you can get the polarized filter and turn it totally black. When shooting with both eyes open the blacked out reflex triangle is able to be seen by your dominant eye and the target with the open non dominate eye and it will superimpose in each other. Clunky, but it works for low light room clearing. There is a very narrow range of environments where this is a problem but do enough and it will come up. Of course a properly aligned weapon light makes for a pretty good aiming reticle in and of itself and you should always have back-up irons so it isn't a deal breaker by any stretch. Even less so on a rifle doing nothing but range duty.

My model is well over a decade old at this point, and I have since moved on to the aim point. The reflex was my initial choice because they were cheaper back in the day and very light, a bonus because I was using a Swan neck mount on an AR with a carry handle. Today with a flattop the aim point seems better and the red dot is easier for my eyes. Need to check my reflex though to see if the tritium is still glowing....

Here's all the toy's together as one big happy family.

I want to buy a gun. I've always kind of wanted one, but never really had the spare cash I wanted to use on a gun and never had a great reason.

Now I recently bought a house. It turns out a crackhead hoarder owned the house before it was foreclosed on and she went to jail. Apparently the basement had a lot of characters moving in and out freely and I have had some visits from some of these people including the old owner after she got out of jail. Since then I have seen the old owner and her boyfriend around the house a few times and I think they may be casing the place.

Anyhow, this is a good excuse to finally get a gun.

I don't really know anything about guns. Do you have any recommendations for a rookie? I was thinking shotgun since this is primarily for home defense and I always heard those are better that purpose, but not sure if it is true.
