Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Have they mentioned plans to quick look Luigis Mansion, or Lego City? Both those games look like great quick look material. Hopefully they got them early so they can produce content before they leave.

This has probably been discussed before, but why does loading up GiantBomb freeze my computer for up to ten seconds every other time I visit the website? It's not just the browser, for that time, I can't do anything other than moving the mouse cursor. I'm running Chrome, Windows 7, i5-3570. This started when they switched to the new design.

I get this as well, I think it's something to do with Chrome but not sure what. It does the same thing on what I'd consider 'modern' websites that have been designed recently like Verge.

I don't know for sure, but I remember it being mentioned in the past somewhere that it could be the cause of a bad OS drive.

The Ken Levine interview was great. As someone who has avoided as much of the Bioshock Infinite marketing and advertising as possible, I really appreciate that the interview was purely about Levine's philosophies for game creation and not specifically about Infinite's story.

Anyone who is on a media blackout for the game shouldn't be worried and should check out the video.

I completely agree with this. I was even more hyped for the game after watching that.

And as an end-user I'm telling you that this is simply not true (at least for the service level CBSi are at, there probably are different price tiers?): Just because you now are able to download swiftly doesn't make the same true for everyone.

Downloads speeds from GiantBomb and GameSpot have consistently been extremely bad for me, I used to get fantastic download rates before GiantBomb switched their CDN. Plenty of other people have also complained the last few months, I can't be the only one.

We've gotten just as many good reports as bad reports since the CDN switch. One of the issues we had with AWS was they were extremely slow at loading our content to their CDN when the videos were first set to live. This resulted in a lot of complaints about not getting content for up to half a day after a video (especially the long form ones) went live. We haven't had that issue with Akamai.

That said, we are working actively with Akamai on improving Quality of Service. This includes looking into additional regions for our international users. Unfortunately, we are now dealing with ISP caching since akamai is a better known CDN then amazon and many ISPs like to cache and then throttle the larger content if they know where it is coming from (not saying that may be your issue, but it has definitely impacted some of our users).

what a prophetic username. :(

Thanks for the detailed response, glad to hear that you are working on getting better connectivity! I hope you can understand me being frustrated about the situation, having the videos stopping or stuttering can be very aggravating.

Providers really are the worst.

Hell yeah, probably the best quick look so far this year.

Nope

It's Patrick and Vinny, according to trick's tumblr.

Oh i thought jeff would be in since he seemed somewhat interested on his Tumblr.

With Vinny there we should be able to get some excitement/entertainment at least.

By default it'll be better than the old Tri Quick Looks with Jeff and Ryan.

I can still remember the pure unbridled fury pouring out of the comments section.

LOL

I never watched that quick look, might have to do it now.

Yeah, Jeff talking about going into the game after a media blackout made me really glad I'm doing the same. This interview was enough of a tease to get me hyped, now I just have to avoid reading about it for the next week...

I just want to play the game, then go watch a bunch of the other Ken Levine interviews. :P

Bombcast incoming:

@jeffgerstmann: Just finished recording the podcast. Gotta get this thing compressed and up and stuff, hang tight.

Also, Brian Altano of IGN/Up at Noon/The Comedy Button wants to be on a Bombcast. I fully support this motion.

@agentbizzle: Hey @GiantBomb, I wanna be a guest on the Bombcast. Let's make that happen :)

Love me some Altano.

It seems like no matter what Brian Altano does, he never gets to just cut loose and talk about how he loves video games. He'd be great for that on the Bombcast, and I'd love to hear his banter with the guys.

I'm probably an awful person but I originally signed up due to the achievement integration. is that ever coming back? Not a big deal at all, stay for the content and I'm a subscriber, but it was nice to have it all in one place.

And that Arma III quicklook was rather amusing, bird Vinny made my night. When that happened to me the other day I was almost in tears.

Altano is amazing, Altano and Bromley is grating.

Yeah, I love The Comedy Button but sometimes Altano and Bromley become a bit too sophomoric for my tastes. Altano is much more tolerable during Game Scoop (which is essentially dead) Knockin' Boots, and Nintendo Voice Chat.

But I'd love to see like an E3 Bombcast with Brian Altano and Greg Miller.

It's the constant one-upsmanship between the two, it gets so old. I don't want to be subjected to their bad Comedy Barn routines.

Yeah, this is true. Brian is funny on his own, and Bromley is alright on his own, but put them together and it's a pissing contest. That being said, I'd love to see The Bombcast crew do an episode like The Comedy Button's Alcoholocause/Boozocalypse/Wine-11 episodes where people send in the worst booze they can find and the guys drink it. Would be a great premium bit.
