Is that Ryan stalking reading in the background?

Only God Ryan knows.

So I played the first 4 hours of Mass Effect 3 and actually kind of like it so far. When does the horrible universe ruining fun start?

Why would anyone try to go to Gamespot?

I dont remember the last time I watched a gamespot video other then when someone from GB guest on.

That thing where you go to gamespot and get redirected to giant bomb just happened to me right now.
I'm more surprised that some of you guys go to Gamespot than I am about it redirecting to Giant Bomb. ;D

I just got around to watching the Arma quick look. These guys are seriously the best. I love how Ryan always gently chides Vinny while at the same time encouraging him.

I'm liking this interview dumptruck thing patrick is doing. Between these interviews and his skullgirls kickstarter story, I'd say Patrick is starting to earn his reputation as a not-terrible game journalist.

Has the GB expansion for Cards Against Humanity came out yet? I've been watching their CAH TNT's today and I'd love to see them do another one.

When are the usual times they offer yearly membership deals? I'm a pretty avid Giant Bomber(ist), and while I had a premium membership for a month in the beginning (wanted to do my part to keep the Bombcast free.) I've not had one since then. So, since I've got some expendable cash right now, I figured I'd jump back on the premium train.

The week of July 4th is the most likely time it will occur, at least based on passed sales.

I like his more conversational interviewing style. You can read a hundred samey Ken Levine Q and A interviews all over the gaming sites right now.

Kudos to GB for going for something slightly different (Jeff is also always inserting a bit more of himself into interviews than is usual).

Why not though? Conversations and opinions can bring out angles that might not get approached with just preprepared questions. I can see wanting a tight package for 3-5 min chunks but when an interview is 40 minutes long and the folks on camera aren't all total strangers, I appreciate some back and forth. It's natural.

I don't love that style of interviewing as a hard and fast rule - for example, Terry Gross of NPR is tough to listen to because she uses her own opinions and experiences as jump off points for leading questions almost exclusively. But Patrick is not nearly that, he's fine.

Brad is still the best interviewer of the GB crew for those 3-5 min hits. He's a pro at that.
Sharing opinions is perfectly fine and dandy, and the more conversational style is, too.
But imo, it should dictate more the style of questions you make, while still acknowledging that the guest is the central point of the feature.
In that specific example Patrick was basically putting words in Levine's mouth, after hearing the first two words, which i think it's rude given the context of the "conversation" (which is still an interview).
It's a matter of balancing your more casual and conversational style, and still let the guest be the one wording the answers and be the one driving the point home.

I mean if you ask Levine what does he intend to do after Infinite ships, i want to hear him saying it, not your interpretation of his first phrase.

That said, i don't think he does that often enough to hate on the guy, and i'm just speaking about the above mentioned example (14:14 in the Levine interview).

While the CBSi version is the accepted modern text I prefer the whiskey media translation. The CBSi translation added too much outside gamespot influences.

14:41 Lo, for there shall be a new disciple, and he shall come from One-Up, Music Television, and Four Generations hence

14:42 And he shall find the news, and break the news, and bring it unto us all

14:43 And he will interview persons of note, and transcribe their words, and create articles of such integrity you shall weep to see them

14:44 And he will even play visual novels, although he will not know them by that name; and SRPGs, and other things most wonderous and strange

14:45 But he shall also have his faults, minor though they be; he will interrupt; he will place words in one's mouth; he will have a silly moustache

14:46 And some of those that are forced to endure the free content he is featured in, they will look upon him, and hear him, and despair

14:47 And there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth.

14:48 But he's still cool, you know

Mass Effect 3 is great until the very end. The very very end. Oh lord that ending.

I cant wait to finally get in on that discussion. I think I see the seeds of some stuff people have had problems with. I can just tell the stuff with
the kid
is going somewhere real dumb by the end of this.

Also cant wait to finish TWD. After finishing those two I might go back and listen to the GOTY podcasts. Would be nice to have something extra to listen to one week because I am running low on decent podcasts lately.

Mass Effect 3 was a mostly lazy non-event until the end where they put effort in to being bad.

The game without the ending is the worst game of the series, though probably better than a lot of games on the shelf it shares retail space with. The totality with the ending is just...ugh.

Have to completely and utterly disagree with you there. The game starts off bad and ends worse. Why is the reaper invasion the first thing that happens? They know the player is going to spend most of the game leisurely strolling around the galaxy. It didn't make a lot of sense in ME2 with the threat of the collectors and it makes even less sense in ME3. Reaper invasion should have been the third act.

The way they handle side quests is dumb. They way every single major conflict over the past 2 games gets wrapped up into nice tidy little packages is dumb. The arcs for your past and current squad mates is hit and miss. Then there's the stupid Normandy pacman game on the galaxy map. Oh, and don't forget EDI and her goddamn camel toe.

ME3 is boring combat and dull writing, which was only liked because players were hooked from the previous, better games. The fate of the entire galaxy is at stake, and everyone acts like they're snorting Valium. Which is okay really since the Reapers are the slowest, most pathetic world destroyers in the history of science fiction. When you make the Vogons look punctual you know you're shit. I liked the sidequests because they were so dumb. At least they beat visiting Kaiden in the hospital. To call him flat and wooden would be an insult to boards.

I could deal with ending the genophage. If you had to do one "Shepard Solves Century-Long Problems" thing with the series, genophage is as good as any.

But it was just one of many that she/he does and it makes it so none of them have any sort of impact because of it. Not to mention that the ending pretty much makes all of it moot.

The genophage solution was great, even if Mordin was a little too eager to join given his earlier trepidation and I'll go against the grain and say that
his non-singing death scene is more fitting
.

Rannoch was also cool, but it included the quarians still being the biggest idiots in the galaxy for no reason, the geth suddenly taking the loss of their race's goal with a shrug before completely changing their philosophy, a pretty goddamned silly and annoying boss fight, and one of the most transparently contrived deaths ever.

It was. Full Paragons who don't get to hear his reasons for changing his mind really missed out.
