Looks mighty similar to BF3 to me, which I don't really mind. Why the hell did they keep that shitty lens effects and fucking dust effects on the screen it looks so damn cheap and detract from the visuals.

Oh look, another modern military shooter featuring a regenerative bullet-sponge American protagonist running through a variety of Hollywoodesque setpiece moments throwing off military banter between eachother.

I love Battlefield, but ugh. Cut off this festering arm of a single-player component already and stick to the MP.

So on the one hand great visuals, facial animations look much improved, Omar's comin' ya'll, and potentially some great set pieces.

On the other hand I'm not arsed about the single player offerings, great set pieces ruined by ridiculous amounts of scripting, falling 50 metres without injury, inevitable quicktime events, and the enemy AI looks woeful.

Just give me the multiplayer please.

I liked it, it was kinda what I was expecting. I'll be a day one buyer.

Also, not sure if this was posted at all in this thread (moves way to fast) but I Tweeted Repi (Johan Andersson) about it

got back...

AMD just announced today the 7990, so it's either that or one of the consoles

Has anyone actually confirmed what DICE were using to play this keyboard or controller?

believable human storytelling is leaning out of a speeding car in slow motion and roasting a helicopter with a grenade launcher as your friend yells BURN THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS

Story of my life man, why are you hating. :(

Now I need to buy a new graphic card. I wanted to buy a PS4 this fall but fuck that. Can't wait to see the MP... at E3. :(

... That's being played by a dev in "god-mode" where the player can't die.

KB/M. Watch the video.

I think game developers see themselves as directors of Hollywood films these days. It explains the scripted cinematic focus of recent years,

Lol. People actually expected a multiplayer trailer for the REVEAL? A reveal for a next gen game that was undoubtedly going to be about "Hey look at our graphics!"? Come on people. Think. Destiny had a total of maybe 1 minute of footage in their reveal which is the norm and they put out a 17 minute video and people are still like "WTF EA!?". One of the major consoles this will be out for hasn't even been announced yet. Come on.

They try so hard to give you one of those impactful moments in the car and it falls completely flat hah. That explosion sure did look cool though. I hope helicopters can crash like that in mp.

Are people watching the same trailer as me or is it just cool to hate the popular games now? I watched that with a group of people at the office and we were blown away by how it all looked.

I dont get how people can say this looks "dissapointing" or "average" - what does it take to impress people if that wasnt it?

I'm going with what's behind door nr.2.

I'm a pretty big critic of BF3 myself, especially after loving BC2 so much, but I have to admit, I'm pretty damn impressed.
I know it's SP, and after trying it out on PS3 for maybe an hour or 2 and then going 360 due to all the issues with the game, I never touched SP again.

MP will be the deciding factor and I really hope they don't use the shitty server side hit detection from BF3 this time around.
Didn't think I'd ever be getting BF4, but now, I'm not sure. Starting to come around.

Yea. People are weird.

I thought the scene did its jobb. What's wrong with it?

What an odd and random comment.

I said I want Killzone to be open world in that glorious looking city too. All of these games need to change if they're going to bother with a SP campaign.

What, you don't enjoy yourself some brainless and noise-filled boom boom and bang bang?

Is everyone going to complain like this when the new CoD is revealed? This is SP and it looks really good and I'm playing BF3 at 100hz downsampling from 1440p.

Why am I also not surprised to see KZ talk here as well.

Oh well, both look great.

Urgh. For all the effort they go to to make the game realistic in graphics and setting, they then intersperse that setting with ridiculously unrealistic setpieces. I don't understand why they don't go completely Battlefield with the single player and just make it an open world map where you have to command forces to complete objectives. That introduces players to conquest in multiplayer and introduces them to commander mode. It's also not on rails. Win, win, win.

its cheesy as all fuck?

Bland military guy 1: "Shoot the window Player1, save yourselves!"

Bland military guy 2: "No don't do it that's an order but I'm not actually gonna try and stop you or anything."

OMG what do I DOOOOOOOOO!!!??? I'm so conflicted

Did you see the gameplay? Either the person playing used a controller or he was handicapped and having a seizure....It was painful to watch like all controller gameplay.

Anyhow, it looks better than bf3 but mostly just effects wise (better smoke, reflections)
Still shows that it's a cross gen game.

It looks incredibly boring though, more whack a mole shootbang with hitscan weapons vs retarded ai that pops out of cover for you to whack it, and levels that scream ' look at all these places you can't go'

Why are they wasting their time with a single player campaign again? I don't know anyone who enjoyed the bf3 single player.

Maybe they should put their time into improving that awful netcode , and they could use the time they put into singleplayer into divising some new technology that allows them to remove that dust on the player's eyes and that oversensitivity to light the player is experiencing.
That would be really next gen /s.

I'm sure you would know what to do in such situation.

the varying movement speed and smoother camera control suggested PC build with some sort of controller used to make it look more fluid. I can't pull off moving like that with kb/m.

Mm, looking at how he moves and aiming that rifle suggests that he's playing with a gamepad - that's why i thought that this was the PS4 version. Then i noticed the keyboard keys and went "oh.. so it's PC?".

Nice. You're like 1 week late with that fyi! :)

All I can say, is it's perfectly clear who the PC gamers are in this thread, and who the ones playing BF3 on 360/PS3 are.

As a 360 player, this looks unbelievable good, and lightyears beyond what I'm currently playing. I cannot wait to get this for the Nextbox/PS4 and actually play something that looks this good.

I can understand why the PC gamers are saying "Meh, not much improvement", because it's probably minimal at best. But man, it's a generational leap as far as this lowly console gamer is concerned.

Pretty much this. It's one of the best looking games I've seen.

After the average pictures that were leaked, I truly wasn't expecting much. But

Pros:

  • Phenomenal lighting
  • Consistently high resolution texture work
  • Beautiful particle system
  • Improved destructibility
  • Improved character model and facial animations
  • SSAO/HBAO looks to be not abused

Cons:

  • Animation- Given just how good the game looks, it was jarring to see no animation for getting in or out of a vehicle. Plus, what happened around 7:19? It is so bizarre.

Overall, I was massively impressed given how only yesterday people were complaining that it looks just like BF3.

I love everything about this video except the animation. Is it me, or was the animation in BF3 smoother?

Battlefield 4 certainly looks great. The technical side of the visuals looks astounding and DICE should be commended for that.

For myself however, everything else looks about as generic as it comes. Same stale modern warfare setting. Same overly scripted Michael Baysplosion fest. Trying to make big dramatic emotional moments that just fall flat.

The biggest problem to me is that it doesn't seem like the better tech is actually making the game any better. It looks better, but all that tech doesn't seem to be doing anything to make the gameplay experience any different or better than what we have now. Maybe the destruction stuff can do that? DICE said the better tech would make them better storytellers? Thats BS. All you need to do is go back to games like Torment or even The Walking Dead to see that a good story doesn't require or need the latest tech to be a good story. Maybe the SP actually has an engaging story, but it doesn't look like it and nothing in DICE's history makes me think they'll get it right this time. I'd at least be happy if they did some off the wall story like Spec Ops instead of what looks like a Tom Clancy knock off.

But then the problem with showing off only single player is that its hard to gauge how much of that stuff is just scripted to happen the same way no matter what. That big mushroom cloud explosion was pretty neat. But was that just some canned explosion, like the building falling down in the BF3 trailer with the earthquake? Or was that some example of a big dynamic explosion?

I'm just not that impressed anymore with these sort of scripted to death, linear games that seem more infatuated with trying to present themselves as Hollywood blockbusters than actual games. They have their place, but they're not what I think of when I think of Battlefield.

And that's my big problem with this unveil. Like SimCity, its another case of EA not knowing what people's expectations are for their franchises. People play BF for the multiplayer. At least show off some multiplayer- or at least I do. Even if its just a quick little montage teasing a MP blowout at E3 or something, that would be nice.

I didn't see a lot of improvements... maybe I need to watch it again. Someone could have told me this was a single player DLC trailer for Battlefield 3 and I would have easily believed it.

Did a snip from a shooter campaign just make me feel...emotion?

I will admit I kinda felt bad when the chopper pilot and her gunner crashed and died... didn't care one shit about anyone else though.

Oh yeah... the dog punch was a pretty great character introduction.

I will admit I kinda felt bad when the chopper pilot and her gunner crashed and died... didn't care one shit about anyone else though.

And the funny thing there is that we didn't even see the chopper pilot at all, just heard her voice. Goes to show you don't necessarily need fancy mocap and facial animation to make something thats even a little emotionally resonant.

I love everything about this video except the animation. Is it me, or was the animation in BF3 smoother?

I could be wrong but I remember BF3 animation in play being smoother than the animation in the clips they revealed leading up to release. Could still be some optimizations/improvements incoming on that front.

I don't understand why they can't try to recreate the MP experience (huge maps, sandbox etc) in the single player space. Or even do something that is linear but more Halo esque in how large and open it is. Even ditching SP completely for some sort of MMO experience like Planetside 2 would be fucking amazing, and going forward there's no technical hurdles preventing that from happening. I guess what's limiting us is current gen consoles once again. The writing probably has something to do with it to - I mean I can get behind a super linear scripted experience, as long as it has a genuinely good story driving it, but I doubt BF4 has this if BF3's terrible single player campaign was anything to go by.

Looks very nice though, pretty much Shadow Fall calibre visuals in spots although that's basing it on a 720p Youtube stream. Those birds look better in motion than I expected. I'll buy it for the spectacle of it all, and the online is the real meat of a BF game anyway.

If they can improve the AI of enemies, single-player might not be so bad. Sure, the linear scripted stuff has been done to death, but it can still be a good distraction. My biggest issue with BF3 was that it was just frustrating. Everybody shot at you. Everyone. You're with a whole team of people and you were always the only target. That really took the spice out of the gameplay because you always had to play exactly the same way throughout the campaign.

Something different and more open-ended or maybe a different setting would have been nice, but eh, I'll be playing for multiplayer anyways. If checking off the CoD-style campaign box helps sell them more copies, whatever.

It looks amazing, though. Cant deny that. I'm guessing next-gen footage should look similar or maybe even a tad better?

One thing I am disappointed at is the gunplay and everything seems straight ripped from BF3. Doesn't really seemed to have improved any. The shooting, aiming, driving, all looks and sounds exactly like BF3. Thats something where I thought there was room for improvement with the last game. Oh well.

Looking forward to seeing what they're doing with multiplayer. I'm guessing its mostly more of the same, and I'll be ok with that, but I'd like something mind-blowing to really step up the hype. Otherwise, its going to be plagued with a ton of Battlefield 3.5 criticism.

The game looks amazing. Seems like BF 3.5.

Small details that bugged me.

Not very excited by Russian support soldier having the same helmet and the Russian jeep being identical to the one in BF3 but with more detail.

These things comes from far too many hours of BF3
