Given it was snippet of SP where cinematics was the main focus, I don't see "pacing" as a justifiable reason.

As aforementioned, it does not feel consistent with rest of the fidelity and animation.

Yeah indeed I can't say you're wrong about that particular SP. Still, it didn't bother me, what I've seen is still very immersive.

To the people making the same complaints over and over about not seeing multiplayer footage - how different is it going to be? Same graphics, more people, same shooting, same explosions - jesus i cant believe the complaints on here. Its a reveal, just look at it and imagine more people running around and shooting at you. it's not that hard.

Honestly if that's all developers can offer me for next gen, they can GTFO.
It looks last gen in every aspects bar graphics. I'm not easily impressed by shiny graphics like most. What's new to see here? Is this going to be 7+ years of stagnant game design all over again? "I'm too old for this shit". It feels this industry is made for goldfishes. Every 6 years they expect people to have forgotten about the same old games again and again. If this keeps up I'm out of next-gen and I won't miss out on much apparently. This applies for Nintendo too at the moment.

My question is, what direction would you have wanted the BF franchise to go towards next?

This is the same trailer we've seen year over year. Anything but that. It's a very pretty trailer, but that's about it.

If you're going to tell a military story, tell a good one, there are many examples of it out there. Not every military action has the entire world going to hell and blowing up and shit shit and fuck fuck oh blown up water drown.

But regardless, I think many wanted some sort of MP reveal, which as others have pointed out, is unlikely at this stage in development. Would have been nice though, it is Battlefield after all. I've got 400+ hrs in bf3 mp, ~5 in Co-op, and about 5 minutes, up to the QTE in the metro, in the SP.

To those laying criticism upon criticisms, it's a battlefield reveal trailer, are you honestly surprised that people are complaining that there wasn't any MP in it?

If they can improve the AI of enemies, single-player might not be so bad. Sure, the linear scripted stuff has been done to death, but it can still be a good distraction. My biggest issue with BF3 was that it was just frustrating. Everybody shot at you. Everyone. You're with a whole team of people and you were always the only target. That really took the spice out of the gameplay because you always had to play exactly the same way throughout the campaign.

Something different and more open-ended or maybe a different setting would have been nice, but eh, I'll be playing for multiplayer anyways. If checking off the CoD-style campaign box helps sell them more copies, whatever.

It looks amazing, though. Cant deny that. I'm guessing next-gen footage should look similar or maybe even a tad better?

One thing I am disappointed at is the gunplay and everything seems straight ripped from BF3. Doesn't really seemed to have improved any. The shooting, aiming, driving, all looks and sounds exactly like BF3. Thats something where I thought there was room for improvement with the last game. Oh well.

Looking forward to seeing what they're doing with multiplayer. I'm guessing its mostly more of the same, and I'll be ok with that, but I'd like something mind-blowing to really step up the hype. Otherwise, its going to be plagued with a ton of Battlefield 3.5 criticism.

That was my primary complaint with BF3 SP as well... it was the shittiest thing about it. And this seems to have been addressed in BF4. The enemy can lose sight of you, you can flank, and it's actually set up by a built in suppression mechanic.

That... is pretty cool. I mean, that's a big difference (progress) no one is really talking about.

They also pulled a cool moment from Uncharted 2 and got that into their campaign. And I see a number of moments where the game is pulling from Mirror's Edge.

It's not all bad.

As much as I tire of the CoD-type scripted hollywood shootbang hallways... watching that Huey melt into the fucking ground while hanging from the ledge was pretty damn awesome. Especially since that's probably how they will crash in MP. 0_0

Not trying to be elitist, but the game didn't look that different than BF3 on a good PC. I'm not planning an early purchase on this one. BF3 still has so much life left in it.

So a transport helicopter decides to land while a damn attack helicopter is circling the building.
might be one of the stupidest things I have seen in a military game.

it's not a military game, it's a fantasy game with a strict amount of explosions per minute.

which is also why i would have preferred it starring the cast of Bad Company doing more silly things so it would actually make sense in a "i'm gonna land here, i don't give a damn" -way

So seems like some of GAF wasn't all that impressed and really wanted Dice to go in some type of other direction. My question is, what direction would you have wanted the BF franchise to go towards next?

Serious question because i am curious as hell to hear every ones thoughts on this matter.
Second world war eastern front with 64v64 player tank battles. The revival no one saw coming!

DICE did this last time show SP to reveal graphics then show multiplayer later on because they know its all people care about. SP is just a long shooting tutorial level but the openness is a good sign hopefully comments about the SP having open areas, teamwork and vechiles being key parts turns out true

might be one of the stupidest things I have seen in a military game.

On top of that the chopper decided to go after the 4 men in a building first rather than the higher priority target of a gunship.

I really need to finish that game, I heard it's a lot like the original Halo. I really liked the multi too but it seems dead on PS3 :/

BC1 SP was basically just terrorist hunt with some set-piece moments sprinkled about... hey here's this large mp-like level with bad guys scattered around in it. Go kill 'em. However you want. With whatever you want. In any order you want. Also, our characters are legitimately humorous during the whole thing... it was not perfect, but it was fun.

Yea unfortunately it's a ghost town on consoles. The multi was a fantastic experience particularly because of how hard and challenging it was.

Stop making a campaign so they can just promote their game with scripted scenes. Make an MP only game and outsource CGI work to promote it.

Sure, and go back to being a 2 million seller. I'm sure the folks at DICE want exactly that.

It's so goddamn weird that some people are bothered by them making an SP. And it's even more bewildering to think some believe MP is all that people want...really? I bet those 12 million people who bought Battlefield 3 aren't all online. But I'm sure the 2 million who bought BF2 are...

They lost me when they cut off a fucking leg in a second, he moves the knife and bam no more leg. Legs have things like bones and muscle and shit, you don't can't actually cut it like butter the fuck. The single player from a gameplay perspective looks kinda bland just like BF3, the graphics are cool tough. No multiplayer info kills me.

Looks fantastic. If the feel of this video is transferred to the actual game I'll be happy. But then I truly hated the first few hours of BF3 campaign with its QTEs and general lightweight feeling. But the potential was there, and with some polishing of flaws and mechanics, this might turn out to be a fine game.

Oh, and I see some people bitching about them focusing on SP. So I'll just leave my vote for the SP here, because I honestly don't care about the MP part of the game at all, so I'm extremely happy DICE continues to try to make a proper campaign..

I'm sorry to come down negative on this but I hate this kind of shit:

Enemy soldier gets shot three fucking times with (what looks like) a sniper rifle and does this weird buckling animation twice before the final shot kills him.

Just shows what kind of audience they are aiming for in the sp.

Just because you find something you think is a flaw in a videogame doesn't mean everyone who still might enjoy it are idiots. Step off your high horse and stop insulting (indirect or not) people you don't share an opinion with.

The production values are clearly through the roof. Doesn't help the campaign though, looks like every other semi-realistic fps in the last 6 years.

Nice visuals and effects for sure, but it's yet another modern military FPS. I want more sci fi, please. Still probably pretty fun to play through, though.

that was very impressive. they also seem to be focusing on characters a bit more. Almost like Bad Company without the cheese.

Man, what the fuck do you want from developers? It looked amazing. You have a level of expectation that is unrealistic.

Its worked for call of duty for 5 years?

But I agree with the other person, dont know why anyone expected it to be "different"
People hoped that the BF3 campaign was an aberration, a one off mistake caused by time pressures and a new engine. It's not as if they have a long history of making SP like that.

Looked damn impressive to me. Seriously people are not impressed with this, at least graphically?

yea but its the same as the old maybe even more scripted. im not here to play a bad movie. i also think gameplay makes graphics look worse in a way. and there was nothing impressive going on in that game other than some eye candy

I'm only gonna judge this on visuals because you know, single player Battlefield, but it really doesn't look like that much of a jump from BF3.

In terms of max BF3 to max BF4 settings, it really isn't. Two years isn't that long but seeing this game on next-gen will be sweet.
