It will suck playing MP on the 360 up until the new system launches and then having to re-do everything again on the Durango/whatever it is called.

yeah because the michael bay set pieces makes it so much better lol

I guess people will defend cods campaign as something special when it is not.

And I guess people will shit on COD to subconsciously alienate themselves from the "grand masses of sheep" playing COD.

If COD has one good thing, it's its SP campaign. If you don't like it, fair enough, other people do. Deal with it.

Agreed. Even if the PC version runs at 60 hz and the console at 30 hz, we can still approximate a 1080p image between the two. I have a feeling the single player campaign will retain all bells and whistles with a lower frame rate, and multiplayer is where cuts will truly rear their heads, but in a competitive environment, the last thing any one cares about is visual fidelity.

I reckon they might make cuts in multiplayer to get it at 1080p 60fps. I suppose it is early days. I think it is early days though.

I love the way he just drops the knife.

Enemy helo shreds the building and fires high-caliber rounds inches from their bodies, and a broken leg is the worst they get? Wow. Dumb.
Haha, that's not the half of it. Before they even get near the building where they're supposed to get on the Venom, the Venom actually swoops down within about 5 metres of them in an open paddock... and then simply flies off again, just so that they can meet up on the roof of a partially destroyed and highly unstable building a few hundred metres away. WTF? Then when the Havoc shows up, instead of using the grenade launcher that he's carrying, he shoots back at the (very near) Havoc with his assault rifle... only to later shoot it down with someone else's grenade launcher while hanging completely out of the open door of a car moving at high speed. And then with an attack chopper only metres away and actively seeking them, their Venom decides to hover in place on an exposed roof in an attempt to pick them up. WTF did they expect was going to happen if they had actually managed to get on board? That the Havoc was going to suddenly give up and leave them be? The whole thing makes my brain hurt.

As someone who has played all of the BF SP campaigns (BFBC1, BFBC2, BF3) as well as most of the recent COD SP campaigns (COD4, CODWAW, MW2, CODBLOPS, MW3) I would have to agree that the Infinity Ward SP campaigns are basically as good as FPS games get. I do have a soft spot for Half Life 2, but I would rate COD4 right up there as well (with MW2 not too far behind).

The BF SP campaigns have been mostly pretty dull and uninspired by comparison; the sandbox element to BC1 was cool, but then BC2 was a regression in terms of the way the characters were utilised as well as the actual gameplay (the best part was the only sandbox area in Sangre Del Toro). BF3 featured the worst characters in a BF game to date unfortunately and the only really positive thing about it was the fact that it was quite pretty; from a gameplay perspective it felt fairly stale for the most part.

That's not to say that BF4 can't completely turn it around though. The freedom hinted at by the VDV in the gameplay vid suggests there might be some more sandbox type stuff to look forward to. Hopefully they will do a good job with the characters this time (and Michael K Williams seems like a great place to start).

How was he even able to cut off a leg with a knife like it was butter

The injured party says that the bone is just powder on account of the leg being completely crushed. Since the meat is lean in that region, it would only be like cutting through a 16oz steak. What irks me more is that they didn't cut away the trouser material first.

Ah, missed that.

No tourniquet. The guy is going to bleed out. 16oz porterhouse or not.

Was going to hold of on the PS4 for a while. After watching the video, now I don't know. I may have to go ahead and get it day 1.

Playing this on the PS4 and via remote play on the Vita will be awesome.

Seeing DICE elaborate I'll give them the benefit of doubt instead of scoffing at the whole thing. I'll concede that the kneejerk reaction of "pffft same old scripted linear bleh" might be too harsh. Maybe it will offer some amount of dynamic battles and player agency.

Although I will still scoff at their ambition to create believable human drama. You really can't mesh that ambition with the goal of also making a ridiculous, actiony goof-fest, or at least DICE seems unable to. In this case the drama is drawing the short straw.

And the stuff Patrick Bach is saying about recreating "Battlefield moments" in singleplayer, what makes that aspect of the multiplayer special is that it's all reactive and dynamic. It's not just the spectacle of it. What they're doing is scripted set pieces, again. Although they're making them more interactive this time, so that's a good thing I suppose.

But I'll at least give them kudos for realizing that the squad aspect of Bad Company was a good idea. Now if only they would realize most everything in Bad Company made a good foundation for a Battlefield campaign...

I'm sure BF4 will be a step in the right direction but I'm not convinced it'll be particularly worthwhile.

I'm all for optimism, but this right here makes me feel like Patrick Bach has no fucking clue what a "Battlefield moment" is.

iirc he (the other guy) put one on before the cut...

You better back it up!

Those to moments gave me huge Mirror's Edge vibes. And as per a recent interview, apparently player has control in both instances... backing up away from the blades, and sliding down the debris, pretty cool.

Pretty sure that the dude with the leg cut off is dead. The two gruff voices at the end mention a captain being KIA.

He was pinned in the truck as it was sinking... when they blew out the glass he drowned. He basically ordered them to sacrifice him to save themselves.

Also, I'm going to defend the leg cut... I don't think it was nearly as bad as some are making it out to be. (though it being a QTE was dumb and killed any tension in the scene)

They set it up by saying the bone was crushed and it was just skin and uniform holding it there. And when he prepped to cut it (the cut they don't show) he was gripping the blade to cut it from underneath the leg. I think that's a lot more believable than the "swipe" a lot of folks are imagining. They should have just had the sequence take another second or two...

By the way, pulling him away and the amputated leg leaving a blood trail was one of the grizzliest things I've ever seen in a game.

I guess I just feel that it's a pretty useless sequence. In a shoot and run game, having one of your squad mate with just one leg is a pretty big downer. I guess we don't know if it's the first time you meet the guy, or if it's a flashback or anything like that.

I kinda got a Bad Company 2 vibe from the reveal. Which is awesome.

Not about the story mind you but from a gameplay perspective. It looks to be more open akin to BC2's SP which would be a step in the right direction and they look to have turned the destruction back on which will be infinitely better IMO.

Now all they need to do is allow 4 player co-op in the SP and 64players on (next gen)consoles and they'll be the defacto multiplatform military FPS to beat next gen.

This is supposedly a very early part/introduction to the game... going by what they said in a recent interview.

Which amounted to nothing since the intel was already known anyways

Well, he saved their lives... at least.

I'm actually warming up to this footage. A major change is that now the enemy can lose sight of you in a firefight and focus on your AI team, letting you move around a bit. This was not the case in BF3 (the entire enemy army only shot at just you) and it was a huge flaw. One of the worst aspects of the campaign. I also really appreciate the BiA-lite squad suppression commands. Especially communicating orders over coms with the AI Helo pilot and having her gunner strafe the enemy... that was pretty fucking awesome. The radio chatter was real good, the chopper doing the strafe run was awesome.

If they can get a bunch of that stuff into the SP... there might be some hope for it.

Also, apparently this was player controlled, as in you have to essentially choose to move backwards by holding down W or get sliced by the blades. Same thing with "shoot the window", you actually have to pull the trigger even without on-screen prompts.

That kind of design/'QTE' I'm actually ok with.
