nope.
n64 was more powerful than PSX
But it had a similar problem... 3rd party developers didn't like it because they were limited to the limited memory of carts vs CD-Roms.

i hate to pull the ol' nostalgia card, but ocarina is super small and its dungeons are rather primitive these days, especially compared with twilight princess.
Why do we want multiplat ports on the Wii U? Buy a PS4 for that. You own a Wii U for Nintendo games and exclusive third-party titles that Nintendo courted. People gotta stop acting like Nintendo "failed" by not being included in multiplatform plans. Nintendo boxes are companion consoles. You get them because they do things your PS4/720 doesn't.
They brought the games, they had a great price, they advertised it.
The only thing they did wrong was they couldn't make people forget about the Playstation 2.
I'm not convinced. All these engines coming out are cross-generational (which explains why Ubisoft's games run like crap). Given costs, I think we'll see cross gen for a while.
We still won't see Wii U. Nobody cares.
miyamoto will probably be designing games for another 5-10 years at most. dude's 60 now, and he'll probably retire at some point. i think that'll influence how nintendo goes about with franchises. tezuka won't be far behind him. then it'll be aonuma as the old veteran calling the shots if he's still around.
i think aonuma and koizumi have very different philosophies than miyamoto and tezuka. miyamoto and tezuka seem to dislike having story clutter up gameplay, but koizumi and aonuma feel it helps give games character and atmosphere. they probably would start doing their own thing if miyamoto wasn't around to ask for a new mario game (or to make things into a mario game).
They probably see it as too big of a gamble to spend that much money on a new IP and they probably don't want to have their teams that make big selling games tied to spending 2 or 3 years making a title that may not make them anywhere close to the same amount money. Depending on how many people they end up hiring during their current expansion they might give it a try eventually though.
More proof that Nintendo messed up massively when they decided to release a Xbox 360 power level console in 2012. Made no sense 6 months ago, makes even less sense now that PS4 has been revealed.
I loved Ocarina when I replayed it on 3DS. For a long time Twilight Princess was my favourite, but maybe it's the mix of nostalgia and the new graphics and all that but I really enjoyed Ocarina 3D. Thought the pacing was brilliant too.
They'll probably try to come out with a console that is everything fans and companies have been asking from them first.
If they make a hybrid console they would probably have a crap-ton of Japanese support to go with the extra money and resources saved by only having to support one device so it wouldn't be as big of a concern then. Nintendo would still probably try to do something to get more western support through regardless.
I'm just trying to live in reality. Nintendo is the one that moved the goalposts with the original Wii. They stopped competing. "We're going to do something different." If they want to be different, they can't possibly expect to get all of the same games. Now if they get NO games then yes, that is failure. But we don't need to expect them to get the SAME games.
I certainly doubt they'd tell you "buy a PS4 and a Wii U to keep your bases covered," that's just my advice. I'm sure they'd like you to just prefer the kind of content they're releasing. But we're enthusiast gamers here, we need one of each to be satisfied. Such is life.
In two years the Dreamcast had sold half of what the GCN had in five.I feel confident in saying that the Dreamcast actually sold fairly well. It's demise was a result of the monetary issues Sega faced, and not necessarily the hype the PlayStation 2 generated.
It sure as hell wasn't The Bouncer.

If I was buying a Wii U (which I ain't, but let's say hypothetically) it'd be for third party titles. Something that Nintendo is losing the battle over in hyperspace speed.
It would be interesting to know how much money Nintendo make on consoles sold, i mean the Wii was pretty much a repackaged Gamecube and it was sold at a ridiculous price (they must of made a shit load of money off the Wii) and the WiiU has power barely any more than 8 year old consoles and yet again sells at a ridiculous price.
No wonder they always hang around like a bad smell, their business tactics are close to ripping people off levels and thats why i take pleasure from all the bad news Nintendo get now, they deserve if for all the constant bullshit and for starting the awful motion control fad (believe it or not but i actually loved them pre Wii days)
Think of the deals Nintendo has in place with Atlus, the Enix arm of Square Enix, and Namco Bandai. Think of the development resources of those companies being poured into Wii U projects. Think of the relevancy of those companies on Sony and Microsoft consoles. This could even apply to Capcom for certain IPs like Monster Hunter.
Nintendo is probably working on a few new IPs for the Wii U that we will either see at E3 this year or announced next year. I also think that some of the first party SW problems the Wii U had was because they were forced to go all out for the 3DS.that is depressing
every time they tried something new fans ate it up
they had some huge new IPs on DS and they try new stuff on 3DS often
if they want success they need to take the risk on major home console software that is not Mario
3DS has a lot of things right now that the Wii U needs my refuse to spend money on my 3DS anymore there are plenty I am missing out on because I would need an XL because my eyes strain at the small screen
but I would have loved them all on my gamepad, Wii U can be turned around but Nintendo went all out to save the 3DS but are really slow with the Wii U
I give them until August to show me the goods
oh definitely. i was disappointed by how small ocarina was when i played the 3ds game, but i'll be damned if the pacing isn't amazing. nintendo ought to look back on that game, because it did that so very right.
I'm not sure if it's part of the SDK, but yes, Batman AC for example, is UE3.Do Wii U games run on Unreal Engine 3?
Constant bullshit? Until the Wii, every Nintendo console was $199.99 at launch. Blame Iwata.

Nintendo went from around 25 million sold with the GameCube to around almost 100 million with the Wii.
If Nintendo retained its hardcore following (around 25 million with the GameCube and the N64) then they can expect at least 25 million sales of the Wii U in its lifetime.
I would say most of the rest of the Wii buyers are gone.
With sell through of around 70 million each with the HD twins, combined we see a number close to PS2 numbers.
I would say that is a very large pool of gamers ready to jump to next gen.
Nintendo is dead to 3rd parties.
Sadly, Nintendo will never learn this lesson and they'll keep trying.
Ok this got me lolCan GAF Wii U owners use google maps to figure out where to move the goal posts to now?
For me it was SSX and Tekken Tag. I'm talking about the US launch though.Wasn't the killer app for PS2 The Matrix DVD for like months after launch?
I find this argument interesting. See you're combining the sales of both platforms to COMPETE against Nintendo as if it's a single platform. We may as well combine the WiiU and 3DS together then as a single platform. And you assume that all those millions who bought the 360/ps3 in the last two years, you know when they REALLY began taking off, will be ready jump again so soon.
We'll have another round of developers and publishers whining about their games only selling a million or two, adding more DLC and everything else gamers hate.
In the UK the N64 was like £200gazzilion (they had to cut the price quick which is something people seem to forget), the GCN £120 and the Wii £180 (with a pack in game). Can't really blame Iwata for prices when there was no pattern to begin with.Constant bullshit? Until the Wii, every Nintendo console was $199.99 at launch. Blame Iwata.
how so? you realize the main problem here is that without the support from 3rd parties the issue here is that nintendo can't crank out their own games at a pace that is enough to satisfy customers. The customers they are...you know....losing this generation. Why the hell would they do that? I hope Nintendo is clever enough to finally realise they are on their own supporting their console/handheld hybrid. And I think it could be the best time for Nintendo fans ever.
We'll have to wait and see who they hire to replace Iwata first.
I think people are celebrating because of Nintendo's absolute arrogance regarding the Wii U. They ignored and dissed third parties and have released a $300 overpriced console with really no games to speak of out now, or anything coming out the rest of the year.
I expect Ubisoft/Activision/Japanese/indies for Wii U.
Any other big western dev I quit on for giving Wii U support.
Is it really? If there was decent third party support I wouldn't buy a dedicated third party system, therefore not buying them on Nintendo consoles. This has to do with third parties and Nintendo, they have created this terrible environment. Not the gamers. This is the reason of why most third party developers and publishers don´t support Nintendo platforms.

I'm talking about 3rd party-related stuff, not the quality overall. The Wii had some great third party gems (No More Heroes 1 & 2,MadWorld, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, etc.) So I can just hope that gems like that eventually arrive on the Wii U. Nintendo is still seriously slipping tho, we don't even have a clear date for Pikmin 3 or anything...What wii? It was the most successful console that nintedno had released.. Y it' maybe be targeted for the "casual" gamers but it made more profit then the n64 and gc combined. WiiU is a different story but i think it will still be above n64
He literally doesn't know what he's talking about.
Yes but the solution isn't 3rd party developers at this point. Nintendo should use some of that bank to expand and if their next platform is a console/handheld hybrid they can release a lot more games. I personally think a platform with just Nintendo games and indiegames could be a great product.
