Right, then Ouya in next-gen too... come on...
WiiU IS NOT a next gen console... period.
You are forgetting about the neogeo handheld/ console thing.

Just no man... Just no..The N64 had like two good games.

I highly doubt that will happen. Just for the PS4 at launch we have:
-Watch Dogs
-Driveclub
-Knack
-The Witness
-Killzone: Shadow Fall
-Assassin's Creed 4
-Knack
-Infamous: Second Son (strong possibility)
-Battlefield 4
-COD
and any unannounced titles yet to be revealed. Shit will be good.
Conker and Majora's Mask. Smash Bros. I'll count as halfway good if only as an antecedent to the infinitely better Melee. 2.5.

Nintendo could have easily released a product on par with the PS4/Xbox 720 without it being very expensive.
I'm sorry that I have higher standards for gaming than you do.Even being as conservative as possible, I can count 15 N64 games I'd say are great.
Not if they get a CEO who knows what he's doing.
You can say what you want, but it is next gen.
I don't know why people get offended when people say the Wii U is next gen, it doesn't effect anyone.
i go by date and not power. i just wish people would stop trying to change my opinion
You forgot Knack.I highly doubt that will happen. Just for the PS4 at launch we have:

It's a next generation console with last generation features. You can say what you want, but it is next gen.

360 and PS3 have a broader range of software than Wii. What makes you think 720 and PS4 will have a narrow range than Wii U?

As I see it, Nintendo has 4 choices:
1: Stop pretending that they can do everything by themselves, release a developer friendly console and create a friendly business environment for 3rd parties to release their games on.
2: Expand like crazy, build dozens of studios around the world and release a Nintendo Box.
I'm sorry that I have higher standards for gaming than you do.
I don't get it. If specs matter, can anyone explain why the 3DS outsells the Vita?

eh, they complement each other well enough. the ps3 and 360 were pretty underrepresented in the platformer arena until late in the generation when a lot of the download titles started to hit. those games don't get much exposure since they're not retail games though (stuff like sideway), so they are forgotten.
Yep wiiu will be a gen 8 console just with no gen 8 support
Date of launch doesn't determine the "gen"...
Date of launch doesn't determine the "gen"... it's impossible to compare PS4 with WiiU in terms of harware... another league.
But hey... be happy with your "next gen Wiiu" that can't run any of the new graphic engines for the real next gen...
You can say what you want, but it is next gen.

You do realise the GamePad has motion controls right.

Your taste in games is odd...Conker and Majora's Mask. Smash Bros. I'll count as halfway good if only as an antecedent to the infinitely better Melee. 2.5.
roflIf only you had higher standards for posting
They don't matter nearly as much for handhelds. Games are cheaper to make and you have to build a separate version anyway. The market is different, the situation is different.I don't get it. If specs matter, can anyone explain why the 3DS outsells the Vita?
Let's be honest here if Nintendo goes 3rd party what are we stuck with? An always online console where you cannot hire or play second hand games and a RAMBox Extreme from Sony which is such a Wildcard, especially looking at the Vita "Dream Machine". Consumers will vote with their wallets if consoles become too expensive so don't snub Nintendo for trying to find the golden price point between affordability and power.

Besides the obvious like Watch Dogs and COD/Battlefield 4 which we know will be available this Fall. I wouldn't put all your faith in all those being at launch/launch window. I don't really doubt that Sony will move Heaven and Earth to try to make it as close to launch as possible, but delays do happen.
Heck, look at Wii U's launch lineup potential around E3 of last year. Games like The Wonderfull 101, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Lego City as well as a few more eShop titles (mostly indie games) were suppose to be there.
Like I JUST said.....
Traditional view of "generation" = If the hardware competes with other hardware for sales
Developer's view of "generation" = How powerful the hardware is -> How viable is it to release a cross-platform title
Wii U =
8th generation (of consoles competing with each other at market)
7th generation (in terms of power)
Next-gen = A term that refers to power like 95% of the time
So,
Wii U = 7th gen in terms of power = Last gen hardware specs = Not next-gen
This.Specs matter for as much as they allow you to have development support.
Current technology. What do you base this on?
I primarily play games on PC nowadays. The prospect of Nintendo games on PC is wonderful to me. I don't really care about whatever nonsense people are putting up with on consoles.
Current technology.
At $350, Nintendo could have easily released the PS2 of next-gen.
It has limited motion controls, more limited than Wii.
Now name a game that requires Gamepad motion controls. Nintendoland maybe? Anything else? Anything?
Now let's name games that require that you use pads, thumbsticks, buttons, triggers? Basically ALL of them.
Games that use the touchscreen? Many of them.
Motion controls are silly optional shit that most games don't even use. Same on IOS and Android. Throwing accelerometers in hardware doesn't make motion controls a success. Motion controls are a fading fad.

Huh? Assassin's Creed 4 is confirmed coming this fall, as was Driveclub, Knack, The Witness, and Killzone at the meeting. Sure, they could miss their release dates, but personally I don't think they will.
Infamous is strongly hinted at since two devs put up a 2013 release in their LinkedIn profiles.
a lot of selective reading in here.
Epic isn't going to port the engine..he doesn't say it's not possible..in fact he says if someone else wants to do it, they can.
If a game is made in UE4, can it be ported down to UE3? or is it stuck on the engine it's made on forever?
Maybe, but only if Nintendo were capable of designing the PS2 of this gen and selling it to third party devs the way Sony did. I'm not convinced either of those is realistic.
You can say what you want, but it is next gen.
I don't know why people get offended when people say the Wii U is next gen, it doesn't effect anyone.
"Hahaha no."
Are you really trying to say Mario Kart is not a system seller? It's sold 34 million copies on the Wii. Of course it can't single handedly save the Wii U, but pointing to Gamecube sales as evidence that Mario Kart doesn't move hardware is pretty laughable.
It's unlikely because the other long-running excuse over support is that they have to compete with Nintendo games.Basically no one is going to bother. It's not only a Nintendo problem, publishers don't want to waste time with Nintendo at all. i wonder if they tryed to go with the power route if it would change anything. the only possible saving that can happen is with the indie developers....
I think WiiSports Resort hit +10 million before it was bundled with Wiis. WiiPlay had 10-20+ million IIRCActually, its not that laughable. Let's not forget that Mario Kart was bundled with Wiis, and the Wii was still a big seller then.
Hell, most of Wii Sports sales are attributed to it being packed in with the Wii. I often wonder how many it would have sold if it wasn't a pack-in. A lot, I'm sure, but I don't think as many as it did.
Has there been any numbers for Mario Kart, comparing the individual game sales to how many sold because it was a pack-in?
