New Pokemon X and Y info cometh next weekend!

Wait, where are people getting 3 new Pokemon?

Only if Stealth Rock ceases to exist. Fuck that move ruining my Volcarona. Fuck it so hard. :(

wut

Volcarona is still pretty strong even with Stealth Rock. It's not a piece of shit like Zard or Molty.

Also can we finally get a Bug/Fire ant pokemon for god's sake.

Why? When we have this bad boy.

So... three second stage starters, three legendaries, or three randoms? Either way, I'm excited. Those starters are probably the best overall quality since Gen III, but designs of random Pokemon will give us a better idea of what they're going for.

But there's two shown via a board, and one in-game footage...I can't quite explain both boards, except for possibly protagonist art, but I'd imagine the board has Sugimori Art of the Pokemon and the in-game footage shows its, well, in-game footage.

Fixed. Third generation starters were horrible, at least the next generation was decent (but not that good)

I disagree, Gen 3 had Grovyle and Blaziken~

I always thought it'd be the same art shown at different times.

Then again, they never announced com-mons alone right? Usually it's a pair or so.

Gen III and Gen IV Starters were both great. I like the Gen III moreso in terms of designs, but the Gen IV guys all had dual-types, and, excluding Fire/Fighting, ones that had not been done.

Pretty sure Pokemon Smash announced Purloin by itself pre-BW, it was the first show after they switched to the new layout iirc.

Hahaha oh wow, you thought Bulbaturtle and Fire/Fighting starter Mark II were good? Piplup I'll give you.
Yes, they were cute, and chimchar is my second favorite fire starter . And that turtle didn't look like bulbasaur.
Lets see, Mudkip is directly shit, treeko is the only good one there and torchic is a chicken that has a cock (literally) evolution

Someone dissing THE WORLD TORTOISE?

And cockfighting is awesome.

Ahh wow. So a com-mon alone then? I wonder if Smash would change as well come Gen VI.

only thing i want for the new pokèmon game is a pure fire third form for the starter

and a rock/poison pokèmon

and a fighting/poison one that doesn't suck

The fact they are placed to the right of the normal Eevee kind of further proves my guess that we will be getting two Normal Eeveelutions. One female only, one male only, coinciding with X & Y too

EVs are auto-updated rather than level up. This means you can pretty much level up Pokemon without worries, and you can change a Pokemon's EV despite being level 100.

Wait, now I'm confused. So the way it worked originally was that every time you fought something, it would add points towards one or more stats and then those points would give bonuses to those stats when you leveled, but now it works where your stats are constantly updated to reflect those values without having to gain a level first? So in reality, my team's stats have been occasionally increasing without the game telling me then?

Yep.

Count another one thrilled by the fist no-hack Pokémon generation. I hope it takes them at least a year to reverse-engineer the game so playing random battles against strangers can be a frustration-free experience. I have heard stories of some buddies going to official tournaments where duping and fakeGTS'ing stuff according to smogon fabricated strategies was so common that you would see people with exactly the same teams WITH THE SAME NICKNAMES, obviously downloaded from the same place. Legal stats-wise, but hardly legit. It turns competitive play into a let's-see-who-misses-a-hit-first competition, the very definition of "No Fun Allowed".

Edit: it would be extra-fun is Pokémon transferred from previous games would have the EV's scrambled around and the IV's recalculated or something like that using a whacky excuse like time travel to make for a revamped IV/EV system.

Well the - in kanji generally refers to "extending" the phonetic pronunciation of the previous vowel.

We got people in here hating on the Gen 3 starters? Dafuq? If there's anything that meh generation had, it was cool starters and their evolution chains.

Fun for who? The people something like this would hurt most are the ones who have spent the largest amounts of time legitimately obtaining and training their Pokémon collection. Someone who obtained their Pokémon through illegitimate methods will just move on to the next exploit, and legitimate players can say goodbye to thousands of hours of work.

The only idea worse than this is wishing for Pokémon transfers to be completely disallowed.

I'll bet my shiny tyranitar that, if there's indeed two new eeveelutions, they will be based on male and female gender stereotypes.
X chromosome = add bows
Y chromosome = add monocle, top hat and coattails

"Male" Eevolution with monocles, top hat, and coattails coming?

It would at least make an even playing field for EVERYONE, and this won't likely be exploited at all until they completely manage to hack the 3DS open, which I doubt is happening soon.

Anyway, it's not like Pokémon haven't been deemed less competitive upon transfer before, for example with the Physical/Special split in Gen IV, the different base stats in Gen V or all the moveset changes in every entry that have nerfed a lot of Pokémon that in previous games used to be killing machines.

Edit: another thing that needs fixing is the GTS allowing to search for level-impossible stuff. Seeing it plagued with legendaries requests is unavoidable, but seeing hordes of requests for evolved pokémon at level 10 or lower makes my brain cells pop one after another.

I'm sure there'll be some sort of gts hack up relatively soon after release, but everything else should stay nice and unbreached for a while, hopefully.

I didn't have many pokemon from Gen IV/V, but I can only imagine the pain it would've been to transfer the almost 500 pokes from previous gen into Gen V. That retarded minigame was so annoying.
I transferred over 700 from White 1 to White 2. It's probably going to be over 800 transfers from White 2 to XY. ;_;

Iwata: "Unfortunately, we weren't able to find a way to transfer your Pokemon from your DS games to Pokemon X/Y on 3DS. PLEASE UNDERSTAND."

If the import is good between XY to BW, then I'll wait until the second version/s to import. There's no point in importing and trading afterwards to a second version if trading is as slow as it was with BW+BW2, it's better to cut the middle step.

I needed my medals and stuff though... :(

Looking forward to the new Pokemon. Hopefully they'll look cool!

Eh? If they keep Black/White 2's breeding mechanics - which they probably will - then breeding and training amazing Pokemon won't be too bad. It won't be an even playing field for "EVERYONE" - if you put in the work required to get a good breeding set-up then you can legitly breed and train a top-notch team in a week or two. And yes, some of these people will still be copying Smogon teams.

So people who don't put in the work, who don't do the boring grinding stuff, will eventually start once again getting destroyed.

And yes, they'll almost certainly keep BW2's breeding mechanics. GameFreak has purposefully made it significantly easier to both IV breed and EV train. They have never, ever nerfed breeding, only buff it significantly. The chances of them killing breeding are almost nonexistent. So even if the 3DS isn't hacked, expect people to start breeding amazing Gen VI Pokemon in a month.

All you really had to do to make most Gen 3 Pokemon useful in Gen 4 was change their movepool. And in Gen 5, no Pokemon had their stats nerfed, EVs scrambled, or IVs killed. Etc.

All that usually happens is that new moves and Pokemon change the metagame up. *That* is why certain Pokemon have become "worse". They have never, ever directly nerfed a Pokemon like you are proposing.
