Kotaku: The Wii U Won't Be Getting Unreal Engine 4

I understand Rein's comment but if he hadn't laughed then he wouldn't be getting shit for it. As fans, we just have a problem of being too sensitive about taking bad news regardless of the platform. If anyone is to blame for this situation, it is obviously Nintendo. Nintendo knew the risks and now we do too. So if you're gonna only own a Wii U, then you should be prepared to deal with the lack of third party support.

Jinfash, your candid opinion is that you think Nintendo is a joke. You should watch how things are said, most of us just see it this way.

No Joe, I was laughing at the tweets, not the console or company. I thought it was funny how he didn't simply tell him to suck on his dick and choke on it.

Nintendo should get a team to work with Epic, to come out with some optimisation libraries and offer them to WiiU devs who want to work with multi-platform titles using UE4. That way Epic's lack of interest in officially supporting the console will not be too much of a negative point for WiiU game support.

Well yea, even mobile devices can handle it according to Epic, it's all about scalability. Putting it on the Wii U won't look anywhere close to what we've seen from the engine so far, so it'd be kind of pointless really.

Epic have stated that mobile devices can handle it, but the only mobile device that has displayed a real time demo so far is the Nvidia Shield. Plus, UE3 technically runs on mobile, but it's not like they were getting ports of Gears or Bioshock.

No one is going to bother licensing the engine without Epic's documentation and support. A vote of no confidence from them is the same as it was for UE3 on Wii, it isn't going to happen.

Edit: new thread on the front page indicates that Nvidia believes the next round of phones will be superior to PS360. There's your "mobile support."

Maybe Joel Rosenburg does patrol gaf, he is telling us to suck it. To his credit he did say thank you for the clarification and response from Mark Rein.

Edit: He also Changed his official name.

(We are slowly derailing this thread to twitter posts)

lol the Rosenberg guy was flatout whining. It's like you can't even have an opinion anymore without having to backtrack moments later because of all the whiners on the internet.

People are really taking his comments to heart. He really didn't need to apologize IMO. I love my Wii U but I won't defend its lack of power.

Rein better watch out The Crazies are out for blood. I'd suggest some restraining order because one can never be too careful.

And LOL @ Joel Rosenberg changing his tweet name. Afraid his current/future employer will find out? Too late. It's all over the internet now.

I said this like 20 pages back that the guy was laughing at the question. If you were making a next gen engine and someone got up and asked if it was coming to last gen consoles I would laugh too. I mean they already have an engine for last gen consoles.

Some of these nintendo fans need to calm down and think about the situation before attacking the guy because he supposedly laughed at the WiiU.

Instead of taking their frustrations on Mark they should take it out on the source of the problem: Nintendo. Who am I kidding thats never going to happen.

How about I go after both sides for being dumb in their own way. To call out epic for sending conflicting signals and not being straightforward as this topic still shows they can't for 2 gens straight now. I've already ripped nintendo for throwing the WiiU technically and the development side under the bus no need to do it again.

All I know is UE4 better not have the stuttering or pop in problems that UE3 does.

damn, I clicked this thread because I felt bad for the WiiU, now I feel bad for Mark Rein... dude was as honest as possible, jeez!

As a WiiU owner Mark Rein owes nobody an apology, the WiiU is lacking power, most companies clearly don't see it as next gen power wise. Are people really this defensive about a console? People need a reality check.

Fanboys from all sides are like this. It is indeed pathetic, but..... people just get this mentality like their favorite games company needs to win. People act just as crazy about sports, and it is just as pointless. Probably moreso.

More like not interested in hearing business politics and bitching about shit we have known was coming for 8 years. I'm worried that a company with no interest in the platform pays this much attention to crap like this instead of their product.

If mark rein or his company cared about quality like they do telling us they have no interest in a nintendo platform, I would care to buy their games at launch price and not on steam sales.

Someone on twitter said something I need to response too, think about all the parties that are whining and stirring up shit.

How could someone legitimately be offended by what Rein said? The other odd thing is that he's trying to cover instead of just saying "grow up".

As a Wii U owner, the only thing I'm offended by is the release schedule.

Basically this. Nintendo should work with Epic to get UE4 running on the Wii U for multi-plat games.

If they can work with Unity, they can work with Epic.

I think Retro studio already co-op with epic to make Metroid prime 4 for Wii U with Unreal Engine 4.

But he is only joking to show himself in front of media interface.

Add:

If 3rd metroid prime done by Unreal engine why they would change it here to another engine?

Because you know better they used latest Unreal engine for their experience.

This whole story is pathetic. People are whining because he didn't say "The Wii U is heavily underpowered and it's not worth it to bring our engine to the platform because of a lack of demand and need"? I wonder how the same people are whining when something really material happens in their lives.

What you are saying makes no sense.

How has Epic not been straightforward? They said back in 2006/2007 that UE2 was a better fit for Wii than UE3. The Wii received several UE2 games right from the start, and zero UE3 games. He has now stated in 2013 that UE3 is a better fit for Wii U than UE4. The Wii U has received several UE3 games right from the start, and will receive ______ UE4 games. You aren't really struggling to fill in that blank, are you?
