How come my Windows 8 desktop is super noisy? It's designed to be quiet so I can concentrate building websites and databases but even though I only have Chrome open its really loud. The case it's in is also huge so that it have more breathing inside. =/

Need more details, maybe a picture...

Why do TV shows have so many different directors? Why don't they hire one and stick with him/her for an entire season/series?

I think it might be because when a director is hired for an episode, he needs at least a week of prep, a week of shooting, and a week in post-production. A series needs to be shooting continuously week to week, so different directors are needed so that the pre- and post- work can overlap with other episodes as they are being filmed.

I've always wanted to know, is there some kind of NeoGAF meta-thread? As in, a thread to talk about the forum itself.

I think I asked before but what uploading sites support uploading of a public file in the 300MB range that potentially hundreds or more can download without the site cutting down on the bandwidth? I'm gonna use gaf as a voluntary test bed for my graduation thesis (I have the permission) in a couple of weeks. I currently have a version of the file on dropbox but I'm not sure if they would allow the pressure from a regular private account (if there even are other types of accounts)?

What are the chances of an item on Amazon going back down the the lowest price it was last month if it looks like it became discontinued by the manufacturer at some point in the last couple weeks? I was trying to hold off until I got my tax refund, but the thing went up by $30, after having held its all time low price for most of March. Now that it's discontinued, I fear it will only go up.

Depends on the product. If it's being discontinued that might mean theres a newer version coming out and the old version might get cheaper.

Maybe its just me, but why does Hulu's streaming tend to look better than Netflix? I more often get a crisper image with Hulu than I do with Netflix.

Is it the compression technology or what?

When you return a defective product for exchange, what happens to it? Do the retailers lose money or do they get their money back from the manufacturer?

I have a problem with something but I'm not 100% sure if it's a problem because I can't make it happen all the time. It just happens suddenly when I'm not thinking about it and I wonder if it's really defective or if I'm doing something without realising it.

If it costs nothing to the retailer, I'd rather return it for another one and not worry. But if it costs them, I would feel bad about returning something that may not actually be defective.

Probably depends on the retailer and product. I've bought an open box Blu-ray player and car speakers from Best Buy within the last few months, so apparently they just take a loss on the item and resell it if the item is functional. If the item is defective, I would imagine they return the item to the manufacturer.

I work for a small eBay/Amazon seller, and we get a lot of stuff back that isn't defective. If the item isn't working for you, first try to contact any available technical support, but don't feel bad about returning the item if you have to.

Is it possible to have your account name changed? I created mine years ago and instantly hated how AOL Instant Messenger it looked. It's almost embarrassing to post under.

I got $50 for my birthday and I'm looking to spend it on supplies.

I am studying to become a teacher right now. Does anyone have any recommendations on things I might buy? Any online stores that are well suited to this?

Are you sure?

Thank you.

I will try this a few more days and return it if it keeps having issues.
Or maybe look into technical support first.

I just didn't want to cost the retailer money for nothing.

Staplers, red pens, smiley face stickers, colored chalk.

If you buy a gift card and the store goes out of business shortly after, would you be successful doing a chargeback?

Assuming you bought in within like a month, it should be.

What's the point of Instagram if I can share my photos on Facebook/G+? Is it really just filters?

Yes, basically. An image hosting site for filters. It's atrocious.

Anyone know when/if the T-Mobile Optimus L9 will get Jelly Bean?

Is there a TV technical question and answer thread? I need help picking a new set..... search is failing me.

uh no, posting it to facebook is just a link to the photo on the instagram site. Example, you can't see favs or comments from facebook on instagram.

To the other poster, instagram is an awesome way for me to keep in touch with friends who don't have facebook or twitter.

You know, forgive me if I sound incredibly naive, but I'm looking for my ignorance about women in general to be corrected and I'm incredibly sorry if this comes off as sexist and short-sighted...but...

Reddit's GoneWild section...how is it even possible for THAT many females that (as far as we know or Reddit knows) has no connection to any pornographic company to be so willing to expose themselves naked for the whole world to see. And to add to the straight up mind fuck I'm having just about every single one of these females are attractive on some level. I've, literally, yet to see a GoneWild picture on reddit of a chick that I seriously thought was atrocious looking.

Okay, so maybe I'm equating attractiveness with being...Idk what to say "innocent" or some shit you wanna call it, but I hear some say they do it for attention...but, I'm still trying to wrap my head around (as a GUY mind you) how these incredibly attractive girls can be doing this for attention...they're attractive females! THey have attention IRL by default!

I'd really like the psychology broken down for me, because I can't for the LIFE of me understand where they're coming from to a CORE reason why a group of females would do this.

First off, thank you for bringing that reddit to my attention.

Now the reason all these girls do this? It is attention. The 'attractive female' is a complicated beast. Just because they are attractive doesn't mean they have high self esteem, so many 'attractive' people go around thinking they are ugly and fat etc no matter how much guys might tell them otherwise IRL. On this reddit, they can post picture anonymously and get lots of people complimenting them, who wouldn't want to be complimented about there looks? Even if they get it IRL they can get it 24/7 online.

There are varies other, probably less common, reasons. Like guys making fake accounts, using an image online, or given to them by a female friend, to mess with people. Some attempt to hook up with people online or possibly IRL (Think of it like an adult dating site), maybe they don't like IRL attention because it's face to face, perhaps they prefer attention that they can ignore, that is behind a digital barrier, that is 'safe'

My question to you would be, if they like getting attention in real life, why would some of them not also want it online to? Attention seekers like to get it wherever they can as much as they can, and the internet is great for facilitating that.

EDIT: You can also look at somewhere like deviantart that has a large artistic nudes section full of males and females of all kinds freely posting nudes to. Wanting recognition of your body/beauty is a common human need, we want to be told we are good in some way.

I'm going to cross post this in the girls thread. Maybe they can shed light or at least offer a more rounded response.

You ought not generalise like that though. If a girl wants to show her self to the world, it isn't necessarily attention seeking - people share pictures online on twitter etc, maybe they just like being uninhibited, or you know, some girls... just want to have fun? :P

edit: edit: Just visited the site in question... for some reason I thought it was just spring break stuff.. fair warning: *very nsfw if you go there... *

Girls thread?

It's in the community section. But to be honest, drive by posts, are not appreciated, unless, it's of actual merit. I wouldn't have done it except I think it has been discussed before.

There is another, men ask girl gaf, thread from old, but hardly used any more.

You were right to post it in this thread.

People show off their bodies over all kinds of mediums or in person. Who gives a shit what their motivations are and why is there a need to shame them? How else do you make it less stigmatized if you're busy being a judgmental ass about people doing it? (Not directing this question at anyone here just musing.)

Because there are billions of people in the world, probably 2 million women which live in a country with internet access, if only 1% of those women would be willing to bare themselves publicly that's that's 20,000,000, if 10% of those get photographed that's 2,000,000, if half of those get uploaded to the internet that's 1,000,000, and if the top 20% cream of the crop of those gets posted on reddit you get 200,000 photos of attractive naked women, which is in no way is indicative of the reality of the situation.

I have a buddy that lives in another state and seems to be having PC trouble. Notably exceptionally long boot times and desktop loading. Is there a free software that will enable me to connect to him remotely and access his msconfig to check boot items and possibly uninstall/install software? I'd like to check that stuff and put MSE + Malwarebytes on for him and try to clean up his start processes. He's terribly computer illiterate and it's not feasible for me to travel 5 states to play Dr. PC for him :P Oh, he's on Vista (not sure if 32 or 64) and I"m on Win7 64...

I explained some of the psycology/logic behind why those girls might post on that reddit. You are explaining rough number of how many might post online, not their reasons behind it. What do you, seemly, object to in what I posted? I am not saying attention seeking is the only reason someone would post a nude photo on reddit, just that it is probably the reason, partly or fully, that most do.

I'm sure some people just do it because they can. Anonymity removes some inhibitions that normal interaction imposes.

I think that is another reason for sure. Also the thrill of doing something at can been seen as taboo or naughty. Thee are a wide range or reasons why someone might do it. I was mainly explaining the behaviour from and attractiveness standpoint that the OP was asking about, I got the impression they felt attractive people would get 'enough' attention in real life that there was 'no point' them putting nude pictures up online, and was explaining why this isn't the case.

If I had some kind of wiki/community site that I was thinking of starting up, would making a thread about it on GAF for advice/etc. be against the rules in some way? The site would have nothing to do with games.

I meant to quote TacticalFox88 not you, sorry.
