New Pokemon X and Y info cometh next weekend!

Guys can we drop the generational design / "it looks like a digimon" stuff? Every gen has it lookers and it stinkers. We are going to get enough of that stuff over the coming days.

No. Keep the discussion alive!

I think the main differences of the new designs are:

A) Color palette is just all over the place.

B) Too many humanoid Pokemon (this is particularly amplified by the color schemes).

C) Too many are becoming mechanical.

D) They have sharper edges in their design.

E) They are more detailed.

That shouldn't mean one is better than the other. And to the average joe all pokemon will look the same. But for the fans, there is a real difference between the generations..

in the pokèmon universe, they are animals

as for the designs of gen 1/2,some animals have horns and spikes, what i don't like is when they don't look natural, but just to add to the design

like this

Excadrill.png

the base pokèmon design is really good, one of my favorites of that gen, then the evolution put some kind of helmet on his head that doesn't seem natural at all, without that the design would have been so much better

As opposed to

The Smash Bros. community at large has a tremendous aversion to the removal of veterans. Jigglypuff isn't leaving.

It's also why Mewtwo is the #1 most requested character for SSB4 in Japan, and he's quite high on the list here in the west.

Is that why people wanted Roy in Brawl? :/ He was the main character in one game.

Also do you have a link to that? I'm curious.

Alot of Gen 1 Pokemon had humanoid designs, alot.

Gen1 seemed tto have animals that looked like animals, the proportions all seemed realstici of the ones that were meant to be animal like. LAter gens kinda made them more cartoony.

A lot of your poisnts are valid tho.

Lucario is furry bait and reminds me of the emo boys who used to get teased in high school. MEWTWO FOR LIFE!

insert every sonic character that isn't sonic, insert every anime character that isnt happy, insert every super hero that isn't happy , except for batman and the punisher " bu.. bit they cant be emo, they are badass muscly dudes in tight dark leather clothing who go around beating up people because they are sad on the inside, NOT EMO AT ALL."

How dare those characters not look happy.

( I know your doing a funny, It just reminded of somethings that annoy me is all)

I know that, but again, with the exception of Mr. Mime and Jynx. They were much less subtle because of the color palette.

On the topic of designs, I think Gen VI has been extremely lacking so far. Froakie and Chespin are great, Yveltal is pretty good, but everything else has been fucking terrible IMO. Sylveon is one of my least favorite Pokemon ever, I would have to say. Looks incredibly moronic.

I'm really hoping to see another Pokemon I like in the reveals tonight. Surely at least one of the three will be good... :/

???

They've only revealed six Pokemon. You like three of them. You only hate one of them, from what I can tell. That's a pretty good tie ratio. -_-

LOL Jesus Christ. so you like 3 out of the 6 shown so far and its extremely lacking?

If you're willing to wait for me to get to my computer, I could certainly message you a link. I spend a lot of time on Smashboards, and these things come up often.

Also, if I'm remembering correctly, Roy is very high up on that same Japanese poll.

blastoise has always been an oddity to me,the overall design is good, the water cannons are out of place

I dont even think the over all design looks good, wartortle looks like this air./water wave like pokemon. Ihen it evolves into this mechanical looking mess, that has venasaur's head colored blue for some reason.

Yes that is true

But the three I hate are some of my least favorite designs in the series yet. Pretty sure I said all three were "fucking terrible," I would think that would also means I hate them :p

yes they are.
they live in the wild, they are breeded by humans,we don't see any other living creature in that world that it is not an human or a pokèmon

they are animals
My favorite animal is a pile of eggs.

They make it pretty clear that whi,e they take the place of animals they themselves are not animals
Hell D/P implies humans may even be connected to Pokemon.

Wrong. Pokemon, in universe, are Pocket Monsters. As we see from Gen 1 Gamefreak has never limited themselves to just animals, and the series has only benefited from that breadth of creativity and variety.

If you enjoy the more rudimentary animal-like pokemon, go right ahead. Just don't get pissy because someone enjoys the poltergeist possessing appliances or another type of ambulatory garbage.

it seems like it's way too early to start talking with words like that. we've seen pretty much nothing.

Misty, has an aquarium in her gym. she has normal fish and Pokemon fish.

not anymore though.

they 'fixed' that

seems like animals were meant to co-exist with pokemon during maybe gen1 and 2 but theyve tried to iron them out except for occasional references.

they are strange for real world standards,no way to deny it..but they are still the "animals" of that world, animals are "the living creatures that are not humans"

Sorry, but that doesn't fly. On one hand you trash later generation creatures because they don't look like animals, but then offer a brittle excuse for a Gen 1 monster (among many) that fail to meet your definition of what a pokemon is.

Squirtle's skin color gradually becomes darker, and its shell evolves into something more ferocious. Who's to say that the jets weren't hiding beneath its shell the entire time?

Sounds cool. They better want Chrom from Awakening, at least.

Ah, I was mistaken by the way you described your hatred of Sylveon. I actually kinda like him, and Xerneas is pretty cool too. Froakie is the only one I'm kinda meh about.

It's always funny how smashbros fans want to have 3 clones of a character with the same moveset just for the sake of "WE WANT IT BACK".

Well, i'm hoping for another eeveelution today... If the picture with the Kanji and the furrevees was anything to note, we could be expecting another.

never said they limited the designs to animals,i said that in the pokèmon world they are animals,so they have to look natural

Another baseless claim. Pokemon are Pocket Monsters. In the early years there was a slip up or two where a dog, fish, or raccoon was shown but it's clear now that monsters populate the Pokemon Earth.

Monsters that you can catch in capsules that then go in your pocket.

Pocket Monsters.

They're the fauna of their world but they're not animals, nor should you limit any legitimacy to those who ape a real creature. They can look like whatever.

But ash has eaten a cheeseburger in later seasons.
...oh god
It's all good.

"Sinnoh Folk Story 1"
Pick clean the bones of Pokémon
caught in the sea or stream.
Thank them for the meals they
provide, and pick their bones clean.
When the bones are as clean as can
be, set them free in the water from
which they came.
The Pokémon will return, fully
fleshed, and it begins anew.

Scientifically speaking humans are animals.

thanks cap. obvious,i know -_-
but do you ever refer to another human being as an "animal"?

there are no other living creatures on the pokèmon world in the games, why we should not consider them as the animals of said world?they "work" exactly the same, apart from the fact that they can kill you.

I hope we can actually move in a 3D plane and not the four-directional movement that's been the mainstay of the series. And I'd like to see the overworld models touched up before launch. But I am damned excited for this, even with all of the 3DS greatness that is coming this year.

No, non-grid movement would kill a lot of mechanics.

never said they limited the designs to animals,i said that in the pokèmon world they are animals,so they have to look natural

There is no such rule in place.

It isn't the real world, just because they aren't human doesn't mean they have to be animals.
And that's assuming humans aren't Pokemon themselves.
"Sinnoh Folk Story 2"
There lived a Pokémon in a forest.
In the forest, the Pokémon shed its
hide to sleep as a human.
Awakened, the human dons the
Pokémon hide to roam villages.
"Sinnoh Folk Story 3"
There once were Pokémon that
became very close to humans.
There once were humans and Pokémon
that ate together at the same table.
It was a time when there existed no
differences to distinguish the two.

There's nothing wrong with preferring more simplistic designs. It just seems odd to assume a series called Pocket Monsters should only feature parallels to known animals.

That just made me think that they could bring back Mewtwo for SSB4 and let him transform into his possible new form in the game as well. That way it pleases those that want Mewtwo back, but also represents the 6th gen games.
