fabricated backlash

I'm inclined to believe this. Not even MS could be that stereotypically evil.
So let me get this straight -
You will have to pay extra to buy a box that plays games that you already have a box for...
...and people think this is awesome/are praising this decision?

What happened to Sony people praising options the other day and now that Microsoft is rumored to be adding a option for full-BC to the X720 it's all turned around and now options are a bad thing?
This is a optional premium for those that don't have a X360 or get rid of their X360 and want one later.
Crisis averted. I don't mind the BC solution too much I guess. I would much prefer it be something really small that could slide into the system somehow, like an expansion bay or something.
I could place my Xbox 360/Mini in another room and stream to my Durango.
If you have a 360 already, you don't need to buy it.So let me get this straight -

I much prefer this method of BC. Give me the option goddamnit. Ill pay a little extra for full BC of the library i have spent freaking 1000s of dollars on. Its the notion that that library will suddenly be unsupported and outdated that always makes me ill. I have like 60 Xbox 1 games stored away in a box i never use because there are no good emulators and my original XBOX died on me. I'd have to rely on second-hand markets to get a replacement and the first xbox is huge as fuck as far as shelf space is concerned.
Umm why would you pay extra for a box you already have? Get out of that bizarro world of yours.

Yeah, it's the same for me. Honestly I never use BC and chances are I won't touch it next-gen either. But it's just kind of a principle thing.I much prefer this method of BC. This makes a lot more sense and would explain how wires got crossed with "the next Xbox will require an internet connection" and why Orth tried to defend it.
I am curious is the spec delay for unveil is because they're changing stuff from the previous roadmap or if they're just waiting for final silicon.
Why would people without 360's care about BC?
If you have one already, why would you buy this next gen console plus another add on? It's different if it's built in because it's something that adds value to your hardware purchase.
It's just a cash grab for MS. On top of that, you all better hope this peripheral doesn't flop because it in MS's eyes it would just be a message that nobody cares about BC.
Although, that's just like my opinion...man.

This is the dumbest idea ever. Buying a console that piggybacks off another console to give me BC from my last console doesn't sound like the best way to go about this.
So lame if they're really waiting that long to reveal the console.![]()

It also adds to the price tag. Hardware BC (best BC) doesn't come for free. Why force the extra cost on everyone, whether they want BC or not?
Why? May 21st is the Tuesday before Memorial Day in US. The unofficial start of summer here. There will be a lot of talk at family get togethers. And then June brings E3 and the BUILD conference.
Microsoft will have a lot of momentum going through the summer especially if they release the Mini-Xbox during the summer with the new controller.
Maybe it was the plan all along? We never had official confirmation of the April date.
Remember the 360 was revealed the May before E3 05 as well.
If this is all true, MS needs to really get their design shit together and design both these consoles to look beautiful together.
Maybe even build a way for them to connect to each other to form one console?
lots of cool possibilities.

wasn't E3 in may back then?

Launching 360 mini before the Nextbox would be the smartest way to do it I think, maybe they'll do something similar to what they did with the Slim? Launch it shortly after announcing it?
The Surface is stunning from a design perspective. This would be a good idea.
I think the mini could be the Xbox surface. Which could then "click in" to Durango.
an Xbox designed like the surface would be boner inducing.
No way on earth they do that.
"Here's our new Xbox 360 - BTW it can't pay Xbox 360 games off disk". - Media explodes.
This will be a 360 refresh / option for next year or simultaneous with the 720 to avoid that.
Could it be done by Surface design team? With magnet connectors as on Surface to hold both together easily?

Why would you need magnet connectors on something that is stationary for most of it's life?Could it be done by Surface design team? With magnet connectors as on Surface to hold both together easily?
If it was part of the 720 you'd be paying for it whether you wanted to or not. This makes BC optional for those who want it. There are plenty of reasons for people to buy it.

Was it?
either way, Microsoft had an MTV event right before E3
Do you think MS won't arbitrarily price their hardware based on what they think people will pay regardless of whether it had built in BC or not?
When I buy something and it does what I want it to do without any additional trinkets or accessories I think it is a good value. If I buy something shiny and new and then someone bends me over saying I need to fork over more cash for an additional I feel jerked around. This is regardless of whether the all in one unit costs more or not.
No way on earth they do that.

If you want to get ready for the next generation without feeling like you are wasting your money there is the $99 console with the new controller. You get a second controller and backwards compatibility for your Durango and you get to space out the cost of the new system over time instead of all at once. Also more importantly plants a flag that you are buying the Durango and probably not the PS4.

People are saying it's better than not having BC.
Sony is doing it via Gakai gradually, this box will offer full BC at the get go.
Gakai's purpose is not for backwards compatibility. Sony has much bigger plans for Gakai/cloud gaming then just BC.
For anyone with more knowledge of using hardware in this fashion could routing the video through the X720 allow it to add affects like AA onto the image?

Didn't 360 do it for xbox games? i think i remember halo 2 looking sharper on 360.
