PPSSPP 0.75 released

We don't have a thread about this emulator yet, but PPSSPP 0.75 has been released. For the folks that don't know, this is PSP emulator for PC/Mac/Linux/Android/iOS/BB10. To give you an idea of how well it runs, here's a video of Dissidia at 45-60 FPS on an Xperia Z.

Here's what's in the latest update:

Another month, another version of PPSSPP! This time I've only added 0.0.5 to the version number, but that's just because I'm saving 0.8, 0.9 and 1.0 for big future updates :) Don't worry, there's been plenty of improvements. Many more games run and some games run faster - the God of War games should now run well on modest PCs and for example the Monster Hunter games are becoming playable on fast phones (although without sound). And I've started to improve the UI - now there's a recent list and game icons in the game selector.

Edit: Oops, 0.7.5 to be precise!

still doesn't have very good compatibility but runs games very well. Even runs on phones. The other psp emulator is made with Java so it runs like poo.

Awesome emulator, they just need to brush up on compatibility for certain titles and sound. Love the idea of using JIT to get it running on lower-end devices like phones.

Still waiting on support of hardware buttons on Android.

I can play Lumines on my phone though so this thing rocks.

wait theres a working psp emu.? i havent checked in a while but dang nice!

There's been one in Java for years. This one is being coded outside of Java and trying to be more true to the hardware itself, IIRC?

Good stuff ..might be cool for slower games ( like tacticals ) but no way i'm gonna play god of war or dissidia on my phone.

Thankfully there is a Pc version it seems.

It's probably safe to assume that will be one of the last ones to be fully supported.

That game had an option in the game to overclock the PSP's processor so that the game would run well.

Overclock nothing, it just put the PSP processor in it's fastest mode (a few games did this by default, all games could be forced to use it via custom firmware). Processor speed doesn't effect complexity of emulation, though it's possible it could effect system requirements.

Durante: Like PS2 emulation, the vast majority of the "graphics" work is done via your processor. Only the final output it passed to the GPU, so it's not all that surprising that it doesn't take much.

Metal Slug XX is almost to the point where you can play it with an arcade stick on a real display without that ass-ugly XBLA version filter.

Emulation sure is nice.

I wouldn't really agree with that. All the rendering is still done on the GPU, and unlike PS2 it's even using hardware vertex transformation. It's just really that much of a performance difference between a modern PC GPU and a PSP, even filtered through emulation and rendered at higher resolution.

this is fantastic. so glad I kept my umds.

even the possibility of playing lumines on my htc one (just picked it up) is making me so happy.

Note that there is a branch by someone named oioitff out there that fixes many audio/video playback issues, at least on Windows. I've been using it for a week or two and it works really well.

Here is his latest build:

Fun fact: running most PSP games I tried in 4x native resolution on my PC causes an average GPU load of 2%. Really puts things into perspective.

Thanks for this. Works like a charm. :D

And yes, an average modern (2012-2013) gaming PC's GPU can be 50 - 100x more powerful than the puny PSP's GPU. Don't have to rub it in lol, you might hurt its feelings.

EDIT:- Are the settings for the program stored locally in the same folder or in some My Documents/ProgramData/obscure folder?

(Found out it's stored locally in the same folder that houses the emulator files which is great)

Also, can't seem to reconfigure/rebind the controls to accept my 360 buttons...hmmm..

(Found out that the controls on a 360 pad are mapped automatically when you plug it in, fantastic!)

EDIT2:- Holy shiet I got it working... games look really AWESOME at 2xSSAA and 4 x rendering res.. only using 60% of my GPU... and it's a 4-5 year old GPU lol.

Just tried out 5 games, with mixed results:-

Tekken 5 DR:-

Works great. Sounds play normally, but no music though.

Tekken 6:-

Can't get past the intro screen

DOA Paradise:-

Won't load at all

Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday:-

Works great. Cutscenes are played normally. Again, no music, but sounds like gunfire and other ambient ones work well.

Kingdom Hearts BBS:-

The big kahuna. Works okay, except for a major issue with the character status menu (overlapping UI causes some elements to be hidden). No music or character voices heard either, only sound effects. Graphically stunning at 4x rendering res and 2x SSAA.

It seems like all the games I've tried so far lack music in the emulator, gameplay and cutscene FMVs are both affected. Perhaps musical playback hasn't been implemented or I'm missing something in the settings.

PE3 Works perfectly from about 15 minutes.

How is that English patch on Type 0 progressing. I will buy it in a heartbeat.

Edit: Oh, no sound? I had my speakers off. Well, it runs great at least.

Can I also mention in this thread how smooth and slick the interface is as compared to JPCSP?

No separate frontend required too for games, it's all nicely integrated into the program; each game you've loaded carries its own little icon on the main menu for quick and easy access.

Also, iso/cso decoding seems to be automated unlike the manual decryption required in JPCSP for certain games.

JPCSP would throw out those little dialogue boxes that were seperate windows for things like saving and inputting your name(s), this emulator incorporates all of that functionality into one seamless package.

And it's not even 1.0 yet!

That's nice, but you can't run an emulator you can't download. (Non-sarky translation: I'm getting 404 errors every time I try to download from your link, oh well.)

Anyway, I'm hoping this guy succeeds in making this emulator as compatible as SNES9x or Dolphin are. Maybe he could get Dark_Alex to help? :p

Dat soundstage bro. Gotta get dem drivers.

For those bummed by the FMV's disable Media Engine on graphic settings.
Castlevania chrashes for me when entering the game (goes 'til title screen)
Excelent emulation for being just months old. I have the gut feeling this will be THE PSP emulator.

Fuck. I thought this emulator would've had that included. Sonic stage is a messy set of components to install.

Fortunately I kept the installers I downloaded from Sony a year ago when I was dabbling with JPCSP. The software is sorta like a parasite, hard to remove from the system after installtion, and I remember have to scrub my system manually to clear out all the registry entries and files left from the Sonic stage installation.

Thanks though.

EDIT:- Yeah you're totally right Ahasverus, this is some quality stuff for being a few months old. You can really see the pedigree of the dev(s) behind this emulator.

Can't wait for it to get even better, the results are already very good since it's a very young emulator.
