not enough gifs

hopefully 21st of may will change that and Mattrification will be a standard in MS threads

It just feels completely forced now though.
You can't recapture that magic hype of a first next-gen reveal, especially with guys like Ballmer and Mattrick.

A delay based on a rumour of a delay is not a confirmed delay.

delay.

especially given we have a known history of the current confirmed reveal to e3 timeline.

If you're expecting MS to confirm it, fine for you. I still believe there was an internal delay after comments by Pachter and Paul knowing about the delay and the new reveal date.

I think thats obvious at this point. The thread had 2 million views, the meeting was advertised in the Champions League and on the internet, the gifs were nothing short of amazing, and lets not forget that it was the first next gen reveal.

Frankly I'm disappointed at the hype in this thread. What happened to the thread that was first put up? That one was moving really fast.

Can't forget the video series Sony did in the days leading upto the 20th.

It's nice to believe things.

As I said, Microsoft went the exact same way with the 360 reveal. I'm more inclined to logically assume they'd reveal the new Xbox the same way.

As opposed to believing a rumour that satisfies SonyGAFs fetish for believing Microsoft were somehow scared into delaying their reveal.

The fact that Major Nelson's original countdown back Dec or Jan being for E3, if anything, shows the opposite to the rumour. As opposed to a delay, they may have organized this reveal when they might not have planned to originally.

But cool, believe the rumour. Whatever makes you happy.

I'm still surprised so many legitimately care about the specs.

They'll be more than good enough to give us great games. Can't that be enough?

Lol, but everybody knows you can't have a great console without the best gigarams and lots of flops. Flops are especially important because gigarams get tired sometimes.

So they pushed it back internally?

So they pushed it back internally?

pushed it back?

What?

Did you read my post? I meant that if anything, Major Nelsons original countdown suggests that maybe they weren't planning a separate reveal at all. As opposed to delaying one they HAD planned, like the rumour suggests.

So are people going to call this Xbox 2.5 or Xbox 540?

I really do like seeing the process of history repeating itself. It's like you're in Groundhog Day or something.

When we got word of the delay I posted that I thought it was for marketing reasons. After finding out about the CoD reveal being there I'm inclined to believe I was right. Sure, an extra month is great to have more polish on your presentation but I think it all comes down to Acti saying "too soon" to an April unveiling and MS wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to associate the new CoD with their new console, so they went with May 21st.

All guesswork on my part, naturally.

That wouldn't be exactly emulating the 360 reveal like you said though. At least you are offering more scenarios than the exact 360 plan, and running scared microsoft.

Yeah, I buy this. Maybe Acti said that if they were given an extra month they could throw together a Durango Ghosts demo.

I just don't buy that these enormous companies act like kids in a schoolyard.

I feel like there was so much more excitement around the PS Meeting.

There was.

The PS meeting was the first look at next gen and Sony already fully sold and convinced the majority of core gamers on the PS4. Unless there are some credible and legit leaks that XB3 will have better specs, or better something, then there simply won't be the same level of excitement in the build up to this meeting.

Not that I think it will solve anything, but the last thread got more than a little infested with console war garbage. So we'll start fresh. Please stop peeing on each other.

The previous posts were here:

Rightly so, it was a mess.

Trying to go back and forth with you can be really frustrating. Are you being purposefully obtuse or just not reading anything i'm posting?

Can you please go back and read again, because I really can't be arsed explaining it again.

More like had originally only planned to reveal all at E3 but made an earlier reveal date after Sony had theirs so much earlier

THANK YOU!

Fuck. I didn't think I was posting in another language.

I got your explanations, and don't have problems with them but the attitude of your explanations being fine, and other ones being sonygaf fantasies and believing what makes you happy are interesting.

I'm a Playstation fan, but Robbie Bach and J Allard........wow.

You guys remember J Allard's Email message?

http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsof...want-to-change-the-world-with-technology.aspx

Also found an old interview with Robbie Bach

Those guys man.

If there ever was a marketing/PR dream team, they were it. Microsoft was just so intelligent last generation with how they marketed the 360 towards a more general, younger generation of people. Sony always tried to make their products for a 20 year old, because everyone wants to be 20, but Microsoft nailed it with all their branding, advertising and material.

I mean just look at this:

Cool music, smartly-cut footage, and just an awesome 3 and a half minutes.

I'm not here to be politically correct dude.

Its all the same posters spouting negativity, and shitting up literally every Durango thread. A look at their post history shows exactly what their agenda is.

I have no problem with "preferences". My post history will clearly show you mine. But you don't see me shitting up PS4 or WiiU threads.

That's where the difference lies. Unless Microsoft fucks up hard, the new Xbox will most likely be my go to console for next Gen.

But I'm buying a PS4, and already own a WiiU. I love games too much to have this bizarre hate of a console or company that some here do.

So now explain the similarly muted interest in 360 even after all Sony showed us in 2005 was a bunch of dreams and prerendered video.

I think it's really time to stop pretending platform biases aren't influencing interest here. For whatever reasons, Xbox has never had the kind of currency among the self-proclaimed 'core' that PlayStation has had. My guess is that a lot of people who game now had their introduction to the industry with PSX or PS2 and that early fun has stuck around in their minds.

I don't know the relevance of this, but sure nothing wrong with preference. The things I was trying to figure out, is why believing an internal delay of a conference is possible, and taking stock in what Paul Thurott and Pachter said about a delay, is delusional or a sonygaf fantasy.

Actually, I would argue that at one point it did. Since we're revisiting history, let's not forget that there was a time when "haz no gaemz, lol @ the shitty ports, etc." was the dominant discourse and the 360 was the console of choice for all but the biggest die hards. This "currency" you describe is not a fixed and static thing that never changes.

It's a simple and easy solution to just label the entire core console gaming audience into two black and white categories that never change. i.e. "fans of x platform" vs "fans of y platform" and try to understand things through that lens, but it's inaccurate.

On each of the two extremes, there are the loyal die hards of a specific platform who will never change their opinion or their minds no matter what. But in between those two extremes, there is a huge gray area of platform agnostics whose opinion will change with whatever console offers the best product & games and appeals to them the most.

That gray area is what led to the success of the 360 this gen despite PS dominating the previous two gens. That gray area is also what led to the resurgence of the PS3 from 2009 onward and that gray area is what is defining the current level of excitement for the XB3 vs PS4.

^ Yup. And I think that more of the people who game now (including myself) started gaming with NES/SNES rather than the PS/PS2, and look at the consensus on Nintendo now. Most of my fondest gaming memories were on Nintendo consoles, but beyond hoping they survive for the sake of the industry, I could care less about the WiiU.

So wrong

My favourite game montage was the Xbox 360 2007 one:

Made me so excited for games I didn't even realize I wanted.

Same with the XBLA montage for the same year:

Another favourite was the Spaceworld 2000 Gamecube reveal:

Sony also made a bigger noise about it than MS did, they had the teaser video which got millions of hits on youtube, and they also had those ads on various websites like 'Jump Out'.

If you think about it though, what with MS event just days before E3, it makes sense that they're going in a bit quieter because they've got the publicity of E3 to really push it.

MS has already started pushing their event in TV ads and on LIVE, it will easily reach more people just by having the CoD reveal.

Anyone making a bingo card for the event?
I'll make a template. I can make it both in raster and vector.

And yeah, that stabbing gif isn't what I would consider fun. Now, if someone was to make an #XboxReveal version of this, it'd be awesome. I know of no higher quality version of that though.

Exactly. Microsoft is already partnering with the third party brands everyone wants. That's their plan for success with the 360 and it will continue with the 720, Infinte, or whatever. COD is gaming for a lot of the mass market that will purchase a system this year. Doesn't matter that it comes out for the PS4 as well, but if you can latch on to the hype and marketing for next gen as the presumed system of choice for this community then you get a huge win.

Rumors proving rumors,

Except there were numerous insiders who also vouched the same thing.

So a précis of the thread so far:

Kotaku says Microsoft is behind in game development; Sony are in better shape for both hardware and games
CBOAT tacitly confirms this
Thuway says that Microsoft is having heating issues and Ryse is janky.
BruceLeeRoy concurs.
Kagari vouches for thuway's reliability, after a random now banned junior account challenges.
CBOAT says "heh" in response to a post doubting the Kotaku story - take that as you will.
LiquidMetal14 says sources also verify this.
IdeaMan claims Sony are having similar issues.
BruceLeeRoy disputes this.
bishoptl also disputes this.
IdeaMan doubles down on his claim, citing same Wii U info sources.

So instead of waiting for E3 like they planned all along now they're throwing together a reveal at the last minute in response to Sony's, except that the soonest they could pull it off is just three weeks before their E3 press conference. How is this scenario any better looking for MS?

EDIT: And why even bother anyhow? Unless they assume Sony might have something to announce for E3 that'll deflate some of their hype and thus are trying to get ahead of them, even if it's just by three weeks. A delay is one thing, but this makes them out to be the gang that couldn't shoot straight.
