They will reveal the name and then show the system and talk about specs. Then PD 2 trailer comes up.

Oh man, I remember the absolute vitrol towards the original Xbox pre-release. I remember reading some major publication, Game Informer or something, talking about smashing the Xbox with a hammer. That was during a time when Bill Gates was a popular figure to hate.

This is how it is now on Win 8. It logs me into my gamertag, lets me access my friends, my play history, achievements etc and also has a game store of titles you can buy or play trials. All of which add to your gamerscore. The problem at the moment is selection. That would change dramatically if XBLA and the Win 8 gamestore become essentially the same thing.

Well we are already looking at PC/720 being very compatible when it comes to full retail titles and whatever tricks they may pull there are still unknown. I could easily see XBLA for metro. It helps them in both areas actually.

So are you guys suggesting that mobile games would be available on 720? So if i bought it on my windows phone I could play it on my 720 as well? That would be insane and bridge the markets.

Count me in man! I've been hooked since the original Halo. Show me a next gen Mechassault and I may just have a seizure from all the excitement. My gamertag was in one of the commercials for the OG Mechassault!

You know what would be a megaton for me? FASA Studio is back, and a new Crimson Skies aero combat/Uncharted-esque adventure game is a launch title.

You can already do this. Skulls of the Shogun is a cross-platform game available on WP8, Windows 8, and Xbox 360 which allows asynchronous multiplayer matches. It's extremely well executed, and a fun game to boot! I recommend the Windows 8 and/or the Xbox versions. The WP8 version was in development from before WP8 was released, and therefore uses low-res textures that WP7 would need. Still a very fun game though!

But if I own it on 360 do I own it on win 8? Or do I have to buy it again? And can I carry my game from one device to the other seamlessly? I think Sony tried to do this with the show but no one owns a vita so...

The current mantra at Microsoft is essentially "use your strengths, work across teams" or some such

So while you won't likely see many Microsoft franchises hit WP8, you'll likely see more games better suited to the environment.

Mobile editions of AAA titles dilute the brand and add risk to the franchise future
 
F2p and Mobile games will be a big thing on the next xbox. I'm going to make a bold prediction and I think they will touch on the windows 8 store and games/apps being able to be played with either kinect or xbox controller on May 21. I also think we will see some Paid MMO news and alot more F2P MMO type games.

I guess Skulls of the Shogun is not "universal", but Galactic Reign is. If you buy the Windows 8 version, the WP demo will allow you to play all the game, and viceversa.

Galactic Reign is available on Windows 8 and Windows Phone, will I have to buy it multiple times to play on both devices?

Buy once play anywhere. If you've already purchased Galactic Reign on another device, there is no need to purchase it again! You can download the trial and still have access to the additional content. Purchasing on other platforms will only unlock the ability to gain achievements on that platform.

They made PGR for the Zune (rest in peace) and never even attempted to port it to WP.

Personally I think the 720 store will be a subset of the Windows 8 store (same look and feel) and most if not all games and apps will be universal

Xbox team is dedicated to Xbox.

If they are forced to unify across the company, it adds huge strength to Xbox (from windows side) and huge strength to mobile. (From Xbox side)

Instead of deving for windows, or Xbox or WP... Devs can potentially develop to all 3 at the same time (if the content isn't dependent on the controller)
 
I think unification is actually more important for the Windows store than it is for Xbox. They'll need to work on eliminating some of the limitations though

The Skulls of the Shogun stuff was a weird issue. I think the reason they couldn't do a crossbuy which would have been way better in the first place is because the 360 cannot support the Win 8 framework that Win 8 and WP 8 have. It would have required another major update to the system to make it compatible with the current Windows App Store on Win 8/WP8, which was probably more hassle than it's worth.

With the Durango, arcade games the devs decide to make available to either or both Win 8 or WP could be made with the crossbuy idea in mind from the start. By basing the Durango on the Win 8 kernel, which is not the same as Win 8 proper, you can create apps that run seamlessly across all 3 platforms with minimal work required to optimize those apps. It's a really interesting opportunity because Microsoft does it right, I could go from playing an arcade game on the Durango on my 52 inch screen to my laptop that has Win 8 without losing progress.

It won't be the same as the potentially awesome Vita/PS4 remote play stuff, but it's a good start.

but xbox will be getting more multi-purposed apps this time around, it seems. not just strictly games and streaming.
