If all they have are concept art pictures and some vague interviews then i rather they just stayed away, give the time to someone who wants to show a new game.
But if they showed a gameplay video of Destiny running on 720, then yeah that would be most preferred

Can someone explain this whole situation to me?
If the whole rumour was debunked, why was he fired? Did he do more than I actually know about?

He made his employer and their multi-billion dollar product look bad, I'd say that's grounds for dismissal.

The problem wasn't whether or not it was true, but that people made a leap in logic to assuming that it HAD to be true because of his opinion.
Nobody is ever going to really know what went on besides him and Microsoft HR/his superiors, but the problem is that the internet is really fickle, blows things out of proportion and love to hold grudges. Microsoft probably saw that keeping him was a liability due to his recent notoriety.
Once again, we'll never know for sure. He may have left MS due to shame or something along those lines. It's unlikely, but i's still a possibility.
Yeah, Gears wasn't Halo but it was as damn close as a new IP could be. It pushed a ton of 360's because it was just a fantastic game, and I'm guessing Microsoft is planning something similar with Respawn's game. Now that I think about it, Gears was one of the biggest factors in me picking the 360 up over a PS3 early on.

Also, his doubling down on his ridiculous comments. Public relations are very important in the current social media age, so his comments and the negative press it brought to MS were enough to see him fired.

For all we know he was talking about the stand-alone, drive-less multi-media Xbox that the Wall Street Journal recently said Microsoft decided not to release. He was let go for being an embarrassment though. Not for revealing info.

Yeah. It's not the first time someone has been fired/let go for doing stupid/saying stupid shit over facebook/twitter.
It's rumored to be a multiplayer-only title. I don't see how it can get as big as Gears if it's only multiplayer.
You might believe people buy Call of Duty/Gears for its multiplayer, but a lot of people (maybe not the majority, but still) first buy those games for the single-player/coop experience.
I don't really follow or agree. There are definitely a lot of people who like the SP in those games, but the vast majority of people buy those games for multiplayer; not to mention Microsoft wants a big multiplayer game to get more people on the new Live.

Clearly Microsoft is months ahead of schedule and twiddling their thumbs while waiting for the plan to go into motion.
Like all their product development cycles.
In a world where games like LoL have console players players jumping ship to play more complex multiplayer-only games, I believe anything is possible.
Though if Respawn doesn't bring enough new to the table or their reward feedback loop isn't strong enough, the game is DOA like every other FPS.

I really hope Microsoft aren't going to use up time on stage just to confirm Destiny is coming to Durango. This event is of limited time (only 1 hour) and the E3 one as well, hopefully MS have enough to show that they don't need to dedicate time to it.
A press release will be sufficient. Plus they seem to be enjoying Sony's company.

Having the single player is fun, but what keeps people coming back is the multiplayer. If Respawn's game is MP only, I don't see a problem with that as long as it's fun. Battlefield was MP only for many years, and only recently did they start creating single player campaigns. Even though I'm sure there are some people who enjoy playing the campaign, the real fun is still in the multiplayer.
Really? I feel like that's super early, especially for a console that's going to be announced in late May.
September actually would make sense if they want to get out first.

When the most played game in the world(League of Legends) is multiplayer only, I don't think it would be a problem if Respawn's game was MP only.
I never felt that it makes sense to announce early and let people wait >6 months for your product. Definitely a factor that helped Apple selling their products.
I hope they launch a month apart from PS4 so i have enough money to purchase both + games.
But a part of me wants same day launch or within a week, just for all the frenzy it would cause, all the comparisons, all the review scores being compared, sales figures, pictures from stores around the world with people waiting in line, fights erupting in the streets etc.
Well maybe not the last part, but it would be entertaining.

Apple never has to coordinate with a slew of developers. They do what they want and they expect the developers to follow along or fall behind.

i dont think it would benefit them anyway. if it was released a year before the PS4 then the potential PS4 buyers would just give in and buy it instead of the PS4. releasing a month or 2 before the PS4 probably wouldn't be enough to convince PS4 fans to buy it though

I agree with you...it's just that's a radically different move. I'm not adverse to it though. I think a launch in September allows them to restock, gauge demand, fix/pretty things up for holiday, and get in one or two additional must-have launch window games for the holiday.
No, you're not alone. That was another big factor about the 360. Hell, I almost considered buying a Wii U until I realized what it actually was.

I think Epic's IP will bascially be just like the Samaratin demo. Forza turns out to be PGR(5) instead. Ryse looks amazing and sells people on Kinect 2.0. Respawn's game comes out in early 2014 and is the new killer app ala Gears on 360. We don't see Alan Wake 2 until E3.
EDIT: Rare does a new IP that looks great; more family friendly than other titles to round out the library.

Great news IMOA new Perfect Dark built from the ground up for Durango, without past consoles and code holding it back would be a dream come true. PDZ was good, but it could have been way better.

the only way MS would convince me to choose a xbox over a PS4 is to release it a year earlier. they done that with the 360 and that was my main console for the first 4-5 years of this gen
biggest mistake sony ever made was allowing MS to launch a a year before the PS3
