If there is a Conker sequel, and it's as adult and filthy as Bad Fur Day, day 1 is going to be hard to pass up. Imagine the fur man! Imagine it.

Still.....That means their E3 show will not be as focused since they will have to play catch up and cover more things than perhaps they need to at E3. Unless on the 21st the entire event is showing the Xbox and detailing services and features and specs and maybe a demo or 2 and then leave E3 for games.

Their E3 event is going to be longer than the main reveal. Each event will likely go over the OS and services as well, but it will be a broad overview like what Sony did at their event. They'll take the time to dig into the details a bit more at E3. Don't worry about it being non-focused. It's going to touch on everything, but the E3 event will be the main one that will focus on the games, and where the biggest bombs will drop.

Is it weird that I care more about that than the games and hardware? Those are really going to define what the next 4-8 years are going to be like. I think I was most disappointed with my Wii U because of the OS/UI etc moreso than the lack of games. I think Sony and MS are going to bring it hard. I'm ready for always-on consoles with fast app switching.

It's going to be an important improvement for sure, but I don't think there's going to be one system that has a huge lead in this area. It will enable enjoyment of games more because there are less barriers, and that's very important.

UI features are going to be a commodity next-gen, with each system having similar features and functionality, just presented in a different way.

Wii U is an exception because Nintendo has been so far behind the curve for so long, that system is an inexcusable disaster in that regard.

No. I care far more about the OS than I do about games.

if I was a single console owner, I can see games obviously being the main draw, but when you own all of them, I care more about OS and feature integration.

That's how the 360 became the go to console for me.

Sony seems to have improved themselves in that area from what I can tell with dedicated processors for updates/downloads etc. But I need to use it to be sure.

I already know the Durango dash will be sex.

My dream is for Rare to be working on three projects. One is a new IP action game, one is a racing game, and the third is for a new Conker game. I want it to be pushing the boundary of the MA ESRB tag!

Definitely not. I really want to see how much improved Kinect 2.0 is with navigation. I'm also curious about the whole HDMI in working with your cable box. I can't think of an innovative way for them to use it besides DVR, but I think they have something great planned for that as well.

I really like talking to non-hardcore gamers about the future of games.

That's not a dig at you all, it's just that I enjoy talking to people who don't necessarily play as many games as we do. What they want/expect from a new console, what would make them buy one, etc. Especially people who are tech-enthusiasts but not necessarily gamers. I enjoy it so much because you get a better view inside the minds of people who aren't part of our smaller group. These are the people who will outweigh us in terms of raw numbers when it comes to sales of all hardware and software.

Not to mention you get to think outside the box in terms of expectations and awarness. Everybody on say a gaming forum knows when the consoles are coming and they have these general expectations, while the average Joe/Jane usually has no idea until the thing is announced, advertised, or released. Not to mention they seem to be more open.

I don't even...

I guess it's because I'm buying both consoles that would explain why I don't understand the platform warrior mentality. Justification of one's purchase makes people post some crazy/hilarious things though. It's one of those love/hate things, I love reading it, but I hate how utterly invested people get in defending their purchase.

im pretty sure that ill buy a xbox for the living room...and one for my bedroom....then ill get a ps4 for my "tech toys" room

and yeah im expecting magics from the new dash and maybe some w8 integration

Has there been any word on if the conference will be available on the site/360 after it's over? I'm going to be in class while it's on and I'd like to watch it without getting spoiled :/

It's going to be on 360's video on demand. I assume much in the same way that Forward Unto Dawn episodes were.

I couldn't see one there I resonated with (that wasn't taken), so I went ahead and did one myself :)
You have no idea how jealous I am right now.

No fucking idea.

GOTF

EDIT: the avatar idea is pretty cool actually, and not really a rip off of Kazifying either. Too bad Shaneus just stole the one I'd do :(

It's like XboxGAF version of getting their avatar Kaz-ified. :P

I think its cool, OG Xbox is almost retro, plus i was hoping there wouldnt be Ballmer pics, he is hideous, and is not as a cool as Kaz, Mattrick tough is awesome.

So either Mattrickification or something new, and this is new i like the Only On Xbox

Xboxification. It is better than Mattrickification ;)

You want one? I couldn't get a good framing of the PGR1 cover but there may be another you can think of...
It's all good, I would've done PGR2 if I was gonna do it, just know you have the best avatar on GAF ATM. :P

I really like the avatar idea. I think I might just Xboxify Iron Man though.

Xbox is older now than PSX was at 360 launch ifeelold

I really hope we see Fallout 4 on the Nextbox or both consoles, because I just came back to Skyrim after about a year from not playing it and holy shit is it awesome.

yep, where Bethesda goes, I go

If they go multiplatform (which they probably will) the 720 needs to have more or the same amount of available memory as the PS4 to be an option to me. If it has 6gb and some kind of windows 8 version eating ram, it will be not too good for Bethesda open world games.

It'll be interesting to see who copies whom all next gen. This past gen Sony spent it trying to catch up. Will it be Microsoft's turn this time? If they don't have game-video sharing/live streaming, they better hurry up and get copying now. It's not a feature I will use on the sharing side, but on the viewing side I definitely see this being a big deal.

with so close releases no one is copying anyone, they are rather being influenced by research in other places and on the inside. They only have to decide which technology from their labs they want to implement in the console. That decision might be affected by competition but there is no copying

Lol

Ram isn't an issue for either console. At all. In any respect.

I felt sorry for you ;)

(really only happy with the RSC2 one, but Outrun2 ones turned out okay as well)

and you know this how?
considering the life span might be up to 8-10 years you do not want a console where the memory is a chokepoint

open world games can be very demanding on memory, which was a clear example on how much the PS3 failed with those games

if xboxwin8 ends up using up lots of ram it might be a problem

any new rumours I have missed since MSDF seems to have started downplaying hardware in the latest pages?

Even if it were to use 2 GB of RAM out of 8 GB that 6 GB would be more than enough for any open world game that exists today.

yes
today

8GB is just overkill for RAM as far as gaming is concerned right now, I would be more worried about the amount of RAM that is going to be used by the GPU.

Also didn't we get a rumor recently that the PS4 is using 1 GB of RAM for their OS also?

On top of all this couldn't it be designed to only use this amount of RAM when on the dashboard but use less in game?

The thing is, the open world games of tomorrow will be trying to keep up with the new graphical hotness + new AI/physics/whatever other goodies next gen brings.

I bet that for a while it will be comparatively easy, but will get more complicated in a few years.

Of course but even if it is restricted to "only" 7 GB of RAM it won't have trouble keeping up. The amount isn't even what we should be talking about it's the bandwidth limit that is going to slow the new Xbox down from the information that is rumored.

Before you can even put 7 GB of assets on screen at once you would start facing CPU/GPU limitations of rendering.

Weren't we talking about the PS3 in that case?
