Well it still didn't take me more than 5.5GB usage when i'm playing Skyrim with 200+ mods(on Win7)

This is what I'm talking about and Skyrim + 200+ Mods isn't going to be anywhere as efficient or streamlined as a new console open world game.

For the most part 8 GB of RAM would be used as more of a buffer for games to lessen load times and stop texture pop-in rather than a open world pusher.

Look at Forza Horizon 512 MB of RAM and it has 21 km draw distances on a open world map with tons of cars and good AA.

When you can have something like this running on a total of 512 MB of system memory it's hard to hate on even 7 GB of RAM.

I really hope this does indeed lead to some really impressive stuff. I don't particularly care about xbox being better than ps4, but I do hope that the advantages ps4 has over it aren't ridiculously pronounced. If devs are given more-or-less equal systems to work on, they can spend less time figuring out how to port and more time making the game. Win-win.

I'm curious about the OS. Microsoft can optimise OS footprints pretty well so it would be weird to see 3GB reserved for the OS, unless they have huge plans for it and I mean huuge.

Knowing Microsoft they are probably huge, Microsoft isn't great with hardware but they almost can't be beat in the software world.

I don't know about 3GB reserved though and if that's true I would think it would be for the dashboard and not like that in-game. I expect both the PS4 and Xbox 720 to have at least a GB reserved at all time for the 1080p recording.

Microsoft is pretty great with hardware actually.

I've never had any problems with any of their devices other then the 360.

I'm not saying they are bad with hardware I'm just saying that however good they are at hardware they are way better at software.

No, didn't you see, Sony are better at software too now. They'll fit identical features into 1/6th the RAM.

If they're predictable, they can't be surprises. ;)

That's why I said prediction of surprises...

The Rock is going to appear and Rock Bottom Mattrick but not before giving the audience the people's finger and declaring his undying support for the Steambox.

Steambox is a joke, I might have been interested if it wasn't just a Linuxbox with Big Picture Mode running on it.

You might as well build a Mini-ATX windows gaming computer and hook it up to your TV with Big Picture Mode it's the same thing.

I agree with your sentiments here, Steambox will be a joke if its simply prepackaged hardware with company branding.

However if they go for a closed box that can play PC games, there may be a market for that.

Would Bill Gates make the initial appearance at the reveal be a surprise to anyone?

I think it would be a really cool gesture towards fans that have been with them since the original Xbox.

The problem is that those already exist.

Seriously here is your Alienware Steambox:

I'm pretty sure you can even have Steam preloaded onto it.

He's been there for both console reveals, I feel he needs to be there for this one. Can they persuade him to show up? I'd hope so...

Any predictions of surprises at the reveal?

In my opinion MS has always played Chess very well.

If you follow Major Nelson he had the same swagger and excitement when he first posted the countdown that he has now.

In fact, he isn't going to be inside the reveal. He said he's going to be working outside.

You can spend the rest of the day speculating on spec, games, and features, but one thing is for sure waiting to reveal this late in the game did not hurt the anticipation for the reveal at all.

I've said this before when someone joked about him showing up, that would be EPIC if Bill walked onstage.

Any predictions of surprises at the reveal?

They're gonna announce Halo 6 first, just to fuck with us.

Remember their stance on the PS3 before that? Yeah.

lol at Japanese comments on that translated site

Just curious, but does Skyrim with +200 mods look anything close to the Hobbit movie?
Nothing will look anywhere near Cg on consoles. Gpu will be the bottleneck no amount of ram can compensate for.

While Ram is important (never enough of it) people make it look like as it will compensate for a midrange Gpu.

I'm honestly expecting them to showcase mainly new stuff at this event, and show the heavy-hitting established franchise stuff that the mainstream gamers are for sure going to be excited about at E3, along with the new IPs.

I'm probably the only person, but I'm as excited to see AC4 at E3 as I am to see new console stuff.

Shame that Ubisoft seems to really like making deals for exclusive dlc with Sony, rather than the company that does my chosen console. (xbox4lyfe and all)

EDIT: I thought the helicopter thing in Killzone looked damn near CG, as well as the explosion near the start. Lines are being blurred, but obviously nowhere near being crossed.

considering the life span might be up to 8-10 years you do not want a console where the memory is a chokepoint

open world games can be very demanding on memory, which was a clear example on how much the PS3 failed with those games

if xboxwin8 ends up using up lots of ram it might be a problem

any new rumours I have missed since MSDF seems to have started downplaying hardware in the latest pages?

My friend, you being a fan of bethesda and saying you will stick to a console for 8-10 years are contradicting things.
Oblivion on 360 was cool beans, but when skyrim dropped, eventhough I bought it both on ps3 and 360, pc was the version to play.

8-10 years on a modified 7850 or a modified 7790, you can have all the memory in the world but still you will reach other barriers way before running out of memory. Especially in open world games.

Both consoles -admiting as a fact the xbox h/w rumor- will offer the best they can offer in the first two years imo.
After that, their improvement on games by going to the metal wont be enough to offset the raw power that you will always have on pc.

If they went crazy all-out on power, then the consoles would hang on quite a bit more, but still the announced 10 year periods can never equal to top of the line gaming throughout. These long periods are good for their pockets, not for the enthusiast gamer. my 2c's

Other that that, I tried to download the GT app from xbox live, since I read here about the interviews after the show, and guess what?
Not available in my country.
I already read about it being blocked in Holland and another country I dont recall now, so add also Greece to the blocked list..

anyone else feel that alot of people here are underestimating ms approach to games and movies tv and numerous other things.

alot of people now want there devices to do more n more every year, be it a tablet a computer a console or phone. i think alot of people here are underestimating how this could actually work for ms. the 360 has shown people want more than just games the last time ms spoke about live usage they said themselfs the movie and app side is being used just as much as games.

Actually, it's more basic than that, which is that nobody has explained to me why I shouldn't be excited about an entertainment box designed to do everything. I mean I'm told constantly as 'a gamer' that I should be 'concerned' about MS's direction, but actually as a person who likes entertainment I think it could be nice.
People still think Bill Gates works at MS?

He's the Chairman, so...yes? I mean he doesn't work there day to day but it's not like he isn't involved with the company.

People still think Bill Gates works at MS?

Uhh yeah he does...

Gates stepped down as chief executive officer of Microsoft in January 2000. He remained as chairman and created the position of chief software architect. In June 2006, Gates announced that he would be transitioning from full-time work at Microsoft to part-time work, and full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He gradually transferred his duties to Ray Ozzie, chief software architect, and Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer. Gates's last full-time day at Microsoft was June 27, 2008. He remains at Microsoft as non-executive chairman.

He is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people[5] and was the wealthiest overall from 1995 to 2009, excluding 2008, when he was ranked third;[1] in 2011 he was the wealthiest American and the second wealthiest person.[6][7] During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individual shareholder, with 6.4 percent of the common stock.[a] He has also authored and co-authored several books.

Well, he's still the non-executive chairman, the largest individual shareholder in the company, and is the only one that can fire Ballmer.

It would be cool if he walked out on stage and talked about the vision of Xbox when it started, where it is now, and where it's heading next. Would be very cool the more I think about it.

Anything open-world that Rockstar touches is gold.

I agree, but Red Dead has a special place in my heart. I totally let myself get swept away in the romance of the Old West, and Red Dead nailed that feeling perfectly. The first time you follow Bonnie to Armadillo and you see the great vista open up in front of you at the top of the cliff I swear I got a lump in my throat it was so great.

i don't know where the "retard strength" came from, but w/e.

as is... if the DDR3 remains at 68 GB/s (same amount of chips) and the clocks remain the same

PS4 would most definitely be more powerful as at 1.2 vs 1.8, efficiency can't close that much gap. There is still other things we need to learn about inside the system, like the 360 SoC and/or secondary processors. (likewise with PS4)

At present though, it would appear durango would be more powerful than PS4 on CPU side (because of DDR3 and secondary APU (OS and Audio offload)) through the collection of rumors

Microsoft can increase the clocks and it could make it virtually identical to PS4 capability (at about 900-950 MHz... potentially too hot) but they'd have to do something about the DDR3, like doubling the chips (widening the bus) or going beyond the JEDEC specifications

You need to stop posting things you know nothing of. Its looking bad.
