How Do You Feel About Fat People?

I am not overweight but I can see how exercise can make weight loss even harder since it causes appetite increase. After I workout I'm starving !

The same way I feel about uneducated people and people who are terrible with finances; it's not good, and all of these things are things which people could correct if they worked hard and disciplined themselves.

There are lots of not good, correctable problems in the world, and obesity is not the worst of them. It is the most aesthetically repulsive, but objectively someone who is terrible with their money and goes deep in debt may cost me more money as a fellow citizen than an obese person does. The cost of an uneducated workforce is incalculable, and so forth.

As someone who currently is 5 11 and 280. Works out 5-6 a week and eats right(record all my food and cook almost all my food) I am not very happy with myself mainly because people seriously judge you when you are fat. I have had a really hard time losing weight. There is a big assumption that you are lazy and not put together if you are fat. I spend a lot of time trying to look decent for a bigger guy.

I'd trade anything to be skinny really. That's truthfully how I have felt since puberty when I started gaining weight for no reason. I'd trade anything to be skinny.

Also i will spare myself the embarrassment and not read the stuff people have put in this thread. I'd surely go off on some of the clearly ignorant bullshit I expect to read.
You should go visit Fitness GAF they'll give you some good advice.

You seem to be working hard. If you've been at it a while and have seen no progress you're probably doing something wrong. Fit GAF is probably better for advice.

Out of interest how many calories do you consume on average a day? Is it something you've talked to a doctor about?

I already went over there and got some advice. I started doing less cardio and more strength training. Drinking more water and I'm heading to an endocrinologist.

My point still stands.

I've tried between 1500 and 2500 net calories(calories in minus calories out) a day at various points.

Unless your obesity is caused by a medical condition, it is a choice, and you can change it. Or you could just blame it on the world and stick your head in the sand.
The whole point of the majority of my posts is that I'm not blaming anyone else and that I don't particularly care that I am fat. You probably give more of a shit than I do.

I do, however, take issue with everyone acting like a fucking armchair nutritionist anytime one of these threads come up. "Well in most cases this and this" and it's all done as a way to look down at those lazy, terrible fat people. You don't care about my health or anyone else's health. It's just done as a way to make people feel better. And I get so fucking sick of being inundated with it constantly. And the answer is never people should stop being assholes, the answer is always "well why don't you try to lose some weight?"

I'M NOT ON A DIET.
I'M NOT GOING ON A DIET.
I DON'T WANT WEIGHT LOSS TIPS.
I KNOW HOW TO EAT TO MAKE MY BODY FEEL BETTER.
I COULD USE MORE ACTIVITY IN MY LIFE.
IF I GET SMALLER I GET SMALLER.
I HAVE.
IF I DON'T I COULDN'T GIVE A FUCK.

I'd just appreciate it if I could go out in public sometime and not deal with the feeling of everyone around me judging me. Based on the posts in this thread, that's what's happening. Whatever, I'm done wasting my time with this shit.

Posted from my PC keyboard, typed by my Cheetos dust covered fingers.

It is the most aesthetically repulsive.
I figured you were better than this.

Wasn't trying to educate, just give a ballpark figure. Should have probably made that clearer.

yeah, fair enough, I'm just very wary about throwing out figures like that because I think hardly anyone knows how much your calorie requirements depend on your height, weight, age, etc.

I find it hard to believe that anybody that eats more calories than they burn (read: unhealthy diet, lack of exercise) stays slim. I certainly didn't.

I agree with you. But, again, you said everyone who's slim or average eats healthily and exercises regularly. You can eat nothing but donuts and pizza every day and never exercise and still not gain weight as long as you limit how much of that junk food you take in. I've done it myself, though staving off weight loss this way might actually be harder than just eating more healthily.

"Nutritionist" means nothing, I can get on TV and claim to be a nutritionist. Registered Dietitian is what you're looking for. So we are all nutritionists. :P

This.

You can't have your cake, eat it too and then expect others to not judge you for it. If you don't care about your weight then you shouldn't care about people judging you. If you do care about people judging you then you do in fact care about your weight. Make a change or STFU.

I figured you were better than this.

He's just being honest. It's human nature.

You know what else. I know a bunch of non-fat people who eat terribly and don't gain weight. People don't seem to give them shit at all though. I'm a grad student and I pretty much eat protein and vegetables for my lunch and dinner. They people are eating 4 and 5 slices of pizza, candy, donuts etc. and not working out.

being poor is not a choice. most ppl are born into it. you're not born into being fat/obese

why would ppl who don't gain weight be given shit about?
You can have high blood pressure, heart disease, or high cholesterol and not be fat. I won't escalate this discussion.

Point being are these people supposed to be praised because their metabolism is superior?

I think a lot of people misunderstand what "eating too much" is, it's extremely easy to go over 2000 calories in a day if you aren't paying attention.

also yes some people are genetically predisposed towards being big, but not 35% of Americans.

I am confused. Are you eating more than 2500 calories per day even if you did 0 exercise?

No. I just increased my net to 2500 because a net of 1500 for 3 months lost me no pounds. Advice from a dietician and online thought that maybe I was in starvation mode.

Lol, I'm one of those. I can sometimes be seen eating a lot of junk food. But the truth is that I'm overall an undereater, which is -not- healthy either, and it's exactly why I'm underweight.

So we're being assholes for not considering your lifestyle healthy? You realize that one of the major factors in a person's attractiveness is health right? It's the reason we don't have as much hair as other monkeys do - natural selection. I also don't gain any gratification or feelings of superiority out of saying that being fat is a choice, which is an unfounded assumption you made about me and others in this thread.

People outside don't care about you at all. Not your health, not the way you look. It's not like when you see someone walking on the street who is obese the first thing that comes to mind is "OMG Fat person must lose weight, must be lazy". It's a connotation that becomes relevant when one starts determining if they find a person attractive, and that's a hook-off point for many people - especially those that work a lot to stay in shape themselves.

Besides, I don't really understand why you're so concerned with what people outside, complete strangers, think of your body. I only work on mine because I like having a good body and being healthy myself, for my personal gratification. You say you don't care about being fat, yet you have a very strong response to people who say you're fat by choice and you're complaining about being out in the public. Why is that?

I know nothing, but you might want to try going lower than that (I'm suspect someone who knows better is going to say that's a horrible idea). It's hard but it's definitely possible, if you haven't already see a dietician and try and work something out. Also I don't know if you do this but I try and cut out as many "luxury" calories as possible. For example I never, ever eat butter or margarine on toast and if a low-fat alternative to something is available I always eat that instead. I figure I might as well save on calories where I can, and after a while your taste buds adjust and you don't even really notice. Good luck.
I don't eat any processed carbohydrates. I never buy snacks. I only purchase meat and vegetables mostly. I have streamlined pretty hard. Everyone I tell my story to tells me I was not eating enough.

It's weird I never feel hungry. I have to force myself to eat more. I could probably not eat all day no problem. When people tell me to eat more to lose weight it actually makes me feel bad.

Are you measuring and monitoring what they eat closely for weeks? I can and do have an entire pizza and forgo exercise without gaining weight because it adds up to 2000 calories and it's literally all I eat all day.

Metabolism works the same for everyone with very rare exceptions.

No. I just increased my net to 2500 because a net of 1500 for 3 months lost me no pounds. Advice from a dietician and online thought that maybe I was in starvation mode.
Wow, that sucks then. Could be thyroid issues.

I know when I was fat, my portion size was way out of wack. Also things like cream in my coffee or mayo on a sandwich were adding tons of calories too.

Years. I have been using MFP for 2 years albeit on and off. I weigh my food.

Currently have a fitbit and looking at getting a heart rate monitor. I track all my working out eating and standard activity.

Well we certainly are a lot more qualified to give nutritional advice than fat people.

Believe it or not, not getting fat and eating normal amounts does not require years of education... Most people (well not in America where half the population is obese) are able to feed themselves without becoming overweight, it's not hard or complicated.

@ MT 'starvation mode' (aka the yoyo effect) only works if you take in more calories than you burn (2500 is way way more than you'll burn if you are inactive btw)
If you burn more than you take in you lose weight, basic law of conservation of energy, you aren't a walking perpetuum mobile.

Losing (and gaining) weight takes time, if you change your habits you'll lose it, it won't be in weeks though.
If you have as little appetite as you say you do then losing weight should be easy (albeit take time) for you...

You sure about that. What makes a skinny person an expert nutritionist? That was a dumb comment.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9128696/Eating-fruit-and-veg-boosts-attractiveness.html

As just an example. Fatness is generally just a result of an unhealthy lifestyle, just as high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease often are. All of these are also often associated with genetics, and are traits that, through natural selection are less attractive to potential mates.

Obesity is just one of the obvious signs of poor health, but other signs, such as skin tone do make us more or less attractive as well.

My time in this thread went about as well as I expected. I saw it percolating up on the OT listing for a few hours now. I popped in.

Mods explaining how being fat is like being bad with money. People telling me I must be doing something wrong. People explaining how skinny people make better nutritionists.

This is why I hate being fat. I'd trade it for anything. The amount of shit you get for being fat... Doesn't matter how active you are or what you eat. At the end of the day you are still a fat person. You are a fat person jogging down the street. Fat person on a bike. Fat person at the gym. Fat person at the restaurant.

Lesson here is. Fat people stay home. Keep your aesthetically unpleasing bodies hidden. Figure out where you life went wrong and fix it now so you don't have to be a burden on society.

I was talking about those people you see eating junk food. Unless you're actually measuring their food and activity you don't really know for sure how it adds up.

Yeah, I've been using livestrong.com, formerly thedailyplate, on and off for years too. I'm thinking of switching to myfitnesspal though.

Dude, you're bullshitting. Unless you have some super rare disorder or something (in which case, get a better doctor and get treated) metabolisms work the same for everyone. Some people's are faster than others but at the end of the day if you burn more calories than you consume, you lose weight. Bottom line. If you're not losing weight, you're not doing it right.

Fuck me, people think there's a justification for everything these days.

You sure about that. What makes a skinny person an expert nutritionist? That was a dumb comment.

We are 'skinny' because we don't eat huge portions and because we eat healthy (or are you assuming that the people giving advice are underweight anorexics)

Someone who manages to keep their weight steady and at a healthy level is more qualified to give advice than someone who doesn't understand how to do the same.

You sound in denial and like you are trying hard to rationalise, if you really were taking in 1500 calories a day you'd be losing weight, end of.
You obviously won't lose it as fast as when you take in 4000 a day (500 deficit vs 2x normal amount)
When I gorge like that I gain weight extremely fast (holidays, being too lazy to cook and getting into bad habits or eating at the tv and not stopping when I'm full) but the extra pounds are a quick reminder to stop that shit and the pounds are lost when I return to a normal eating pattern.
The difference is I don't let it come to the point where I'm 20 or more kg overweight... If I ate like the fat people I know I too would weigh 120 kilos.

Muscle weighs more than fat so if you are looking at the scale when you become more active it'll seem even slower (I assume you know this...)

You don't know me. What the fuck is this?

You don't know shit about weight loss. The calories in minus calories out thing is a fallacy. I've had weeks of 10,000 calorie deficits before. If this works according to 3500 calories a pound I should be losing nearly 3 pounds a week. Guess what I did not.

Having struggled with weight since 5th grade I can say that most people in my life were nice to me despite being overweight. I am 5'8 now, but I was probably around 5'6 during my freshman year and was around 220. First two years sucked. I had no self confidence and was not a very social kid. Some douches definitely made me feel bad about it. During the spring of sophomore/summer before junior year I got a job that made me move around outside and I basically just drank water. By the end of summer I weighed like 155 when I came back to school. Losing all that weight made me feel awesome, my counselor asked me if I was sick lol. But I have been struggling again lately with my weight the first two years of college. The closeness of fast food places plus the more sedentary lifestyle(besides playing pickup b-ball a few times a week) has gotten me up to 185 again, but I plan to try to lose it all this summer again.

I fully agree, I have no empathy to fat people at all. No genetic in the world justifies morbid obesity.

On the other hand very few people in the world (and thus in this thread) understands why people get fat. My whole family are doctors, yet sometimes I feel like I am the only one that know what I have to do to lose weight.

EDIT: I am talking about really fat, like IMC>35 who don't think that his weight is a problem. I have a belly and I am trying really fucking hard to lose, but I don't consider myself fat...yet.

I used to be overweight myself. I lost 55 pounds by unfucking my diet and working out. I know plenty of shit about weight loss. Eat clean meals, work out. It's that simple.

Since you are such a weight loss master please tell me what I should improve.

At some point I was eating 1500 calories a day( high fiber, high protein, no processed carbohydrates). Working out 5-6 times a week. 45 minute of cardio and 30 minutes of HIIT interlaced during the week. Lifting for 30 minutes each day.

I lost no pounds over that 3 month period. Please oh wise one tell me your masterful advice.

Not in response to your original intended meaning with this reply, as I do find it a far fetch to say you're bullshitting. Just wanted to point out that it doesn't work in the way highlighted. For one, weight is a terrible measurement of body fat. There are too many other factors at play here - water retention, muscle mass being some of them. Have you tried a workout programme like P90X or Insanity?

45 minute of cardio
What kind of cardio? Things like treadmills and bicycles actually don't contribute much to weight loss at all, and may actually make you fatter

Not one person who has come into this thread with stories about weight loss has differed. We all eat better and exercised more. Tomorrow I am going to run for 45 minutes during lunch and spend an hour at night lifting weights. I would rather be playing video games or drinking but instead I have chosen to exercise. It sucks but that's what I have to do to keep the weight off.

This is the type of judgmental bullshit I am talking about. Good for you. I will be in the gym tomorrow like I am 5-6 days a week. I will eat healthy like I do everyday.

I drink about once a month and I don't even play video games much any more(outside of ios games) . I'm not sure what you were trying to say here. But you seem to be putting me in a box.

Assuming you're not lying to garner sympathy from a group of strangers on an Internet forum? See a doctor. You likely have much more serious medical issues than standard American obesity.
