EA Sports Engineer: Wii U is crap, < powerful than 360. No $ 3party. [Tweets Deleted]

In all likelihood this statement holds more truth than any other in this thread. Nintendo isn't going to up and disappear even if the WiiU does. The true test will be what they do after the WiiU is dead and buried by 2016.

Nintendo will hopefully go back to what made it great originally. Cutting edge hardware with an enormous library of 1st and 3rd party games that appeal to everyone. They let Sony steal the crown from them in the 32 bit era, and Sony did it with a mix of great hardware and.....yep, you guessed it. A plethora of 1st and 3rd party games that had something for everyone.

TBF above anything else Nintendo needs to start fostering those relationships now regardless of how well the wii u does. They can't simply re-enter core pure gaming without third party support and be competitive, and if they didn't support you last gen then they'd need to be the next console to be the 360, which used the previous gen to foster support.

Basically they need to keep Ubisoft and Activision sweet as well as Japanese devs at all cost this gen. Because if they jump ship if they don't get another wii next next gen will be even harder.

Today is just a giant circle wank for Nintendo haters.

I look forward to the day that they not only realize that after the first few million Next gen console sales of their favorite company, it will be the same, but probably worse due to price.

Of course by then, the Wii U will likely be even more affordable, and finally have games. Just like the 3DS before it.

Where's the Vita by the way? Oh yeah, still selling like crap after almost 2 years.

I'll make you a bet right here and now that both the PS4/NextBox will sell better in it's first 6 months than the Wii U sold in it's first 6 months.

$25. If I win you gift me a $25 game on Steam. If you win I'll gift you a $25 via whatever store front you prefer. You game?

Like EA sport games are known for their bastion of innovation.

Crap, I'm beginning to see why EA is hated by consumers, and I think he's on track with most of what he said.

Damn... take that bet dude. Prove him wrong!!

What I find funny is how he's telling Nintendo just to make good games. As if Nintendo's track record was like the current EA's and EA is the one putting out all this top grade games that everyone is dying to play. This guy is part of the sports department making the same game every year.

Oh wow. You have absolutely no clue about anything if you agree with this.

First of all, Nintendo is actually making good long term business in game industry unlike basically everyone else. We are heading into a video game crash and it's not going to be pretty.

Second of all, if 3rd parties say they can't compete with Nintendo games, how could they compete with Nintendo if they went 3rd party?

Third of all, Nintendo wouldn't be Nintendo if they started whoring out their best IPs on other platforms.

So no, just no.

Smart long term business = selling worse than a console that cost $200-300 more in it's first six months? Interesting.

Smart long term business = Losing third party support from big publishers whose games sell in the 5+ million category? Interesting.

Smart long term business = Releasing a console with a type of tablet device which lacks the very tablet features that make tablets such a top selling product? Interesting.

Smart long term business = Having one of your top franchises (Zelda) sell worse and worse? Interesting.

Smart long term business = Releasing hardware that will be trampled upon by the competition a year after release and being continually behind in significant areas? Interesting.

Smart long term business = Keeping the same CEO who has seen Nintendo significantly lose it's monetary value AND it's business? Interesting.

Smart long term business = Having back to back releases of new hardware with absolutely abysmal and embarrassing launches, followed by months and months of hardly any games that actually sold well? Interesting.

If these are your standards for smart long term business moves than Nintendo is well on it's way to being the next Apple at it's peak.

Damn... take that bet dude. Prove him wrong!!

Doubt he will.

I wonder if taking advantage of delusional Nintendo juniors for easy money is considered being a jackass on the gaming side. :lol

Yep, if Nintendo doesn't foster those relationships now, they'll get the same exact support during the first two years of Wii.

As balmer once said, it's about the developer developer developer developer developer!

Nintendo deserves to be pushed down a peg or two. It's the only way to force the corporate leadership to look in the mirror and improve in the areas it needs to. The sad part is that the gamepad is really awesome. I am finding this console 10x better than the Wii which IMO is the worst mainstream console in generations. But there are so many areas in which Nintendo is still a dinosaur and refusing to change that I'm in favor of them failing this gen in order to force big changes in the company.

Well, you know, we're just waiting for the Checkers game to release and then the NPD's for the Wii U will catch fiah, all the way to 10 million Wii U's by November.

This is my thought as well. I just don't think Nintendo has hit rock bottom yet, and nobody ever changes until they bottom out and wake up in a gutter with a hooker who may or may not have the clap.

Wow... Ummm... Can I bet against him too? I mean I don't want to horn in on this action here but its just too juicy to ignore.

This is for those folks who continually argue that the PS4/NextBox will sell worse than the Wii U. If they're so confident than I'd be happy to make a bet and send them some cash come May 2014.

Wait, there are people who think the next gen consoles will sell worse than WiiU? I'd wager the PS4 and Nextbox each sell more in one year than the WiiU does in it's first two. Might be a risky and rather ballsy bet, but could be fun.

Someone even believes that the Wii U can sell 10 million consoles by the time the PS4/NextBox launch.

Is anyone honestly saying the PS4 and Xbox will sell worse? While I don't doubt it's possible I haven't personally seen that yet. Granted, I don't believe the new consoles will be selling as well as in years past, but that has a lot more to do with my opinion on the global economy. Certainly not as bad as the Wii U has been.

Really? Good luck looking for a job next week.

EA should go and make a good Madden. Hasn't been one of those in a while.

I actually agree with him. I've been saying this for awhile. Hell, Sega looks like it is in a better position to have a console seeing as their library is expensive.

Why is this thread so big? I'm guessing trolls got a hard on and thought, "this horse ain't dead yet, oh diggity!"

So, are there any new discussions that haven't been done to death up in this bitch?

Betting 6 months sales of Wii U against both PS4/Infinity.

I can't believe I read all this.

H_Prestige was making a freaking joke ten pages ago!

No the man does not have to apologize!

Ok, guys seriously. Nintendo fans. WiiU in some ways is weaker than a 360. Most engines made through this generation are heavy SIMD crunchers. Using some fairly impressive muscle to run physics engines, in Cell's case in tandem with running assistance to the GPU. WiiU CPU will always come up lacking under those identical situations.

The GPU is maybe a little more powerful. A good chunk of that just by virtue of being based on later than 2009 designs. With double the memory currently allocated to gaming. Fifa and Madden just made a huge move on their physic engine side. Sure it's far from perfect and honestly more suitable for funny glitches than realism, but it was programmed in a way that makes it all but impossible to get running on the WiiU CPU effectively.

Taking this under consideration... isn't it perfectly reasonable to see why he'd say the system is weaker than the 360 all the while another EA studio is releasing a less physics dependent game with better visual fidelity?

Not all games are designed in the same way. I'm personally very interested in what the WiiU version of Watch_Dogs ends up being. I can realistically see it having better texturing than either the PS3/360 versions all the while featuring a fraction of characters. Or them just having really simplified AI subroutines in comparison.

I'm kind of ranting, but I think everyone just kind of went crazy today.

Quite a few posters have argued that the PS4/NextBox will sell worse than the Wii U during it's first six months. That the price of these consoles and the fact that most of the multiplatform big hitters for them will also be available on the 360/PS3 will spell their doom for the first six months or so.

I still can't tell whether or not this is denial, delusion, wishful thinking, or spite. For the people who actually believe this, that is.

Whatever it is, it's not a reasonable prediction.

I actually think of it in a different way.

I'm pretty sure a good chunk of hardcore early adopters will be there regardless of the price, and this will lead to overall market goodwill, but availability I think will be something that limits adoption at the start for both PS4 and Infinity.

Being perfectly honest I don't see that early adopter pool being any larger than 5 million users. So price will have to be within reason for the second string of buyers.

If the price isn't? Slow adoption after an initial surge methinks. A lot of that surge will be because of how long this prior generation has lasted.

You are posting also are you not Maggie?
One other thing struck me in the thread.

You are really abrasive Orangey. I don't consider it a bad thing, but junior status is already a mark against you. This is helpful warning and not me lording how powerful I am. You're already being looked at with a little more scrutiny than the average member or marked member. This is to weed out those that only have an interest in inciting anger or stalling discourse.

Might want to tone that down a smidgen. Until a little more settled. And if the junior member status came after becoming a member or marked member? All the more reason to be cautious.

Other than that I tend to agree with some of your overarching points.

I can't still can't tell whether or not this is denial, delusion, wishful thinking, or spite. The people who actually believe this, that is.

I think it's a little of both delusion and spite. Delusion that the Wii U could actually sell so terribly that $400+ consoles will sell significantly better than one with Mario and coming off the heels of the Wii. Spite because they just don't want to be proven wrong by those folks who have said from day one that the Wii U will fail.

.

Thunder monkey is saying wii U isn't getting the new fifa (and got the rebranded old fifa) because it simply might not be powerful enough to run fifa 13.

Oh dude please make a thread for this, it would be even more epic and delicious than this one!

The next 10 pages are going to be amazing. (if people notice)
