Forza Motorsport 5 announced

I will wait until I see offscreen footage since Turn 10 has been known to claim real time and then bullshit their way out upon release looking nothing like these promo trailers.

Yup, not believing anything until I see gameplay. I remember when these screens were released for Forza 4, and then they showed the in-game demonstration that didn't look anywhere near this good. Hell, this autovista locale didn't even make it into the final game.

And here's the game.

i would have really liked fm5 to have another year in the oven and have pgr5 at launch - but, this looked incredible. is it confirmed that lucid was indeed assisting with this? prague looked amazing as a location, the pgr influence is definitely there, i hope this city is just the tip of the iceberg of extending the locations to race in for the forza series. gimmie real tracks, gimmie fantasy tracks, and now, give me city tracks.

imagine what they *could* do with amalfi in fm5...

I hope that race commentary is actually a feature in the game.

It was always funny to me that F1 games tried so hard to recreate that TV broadcasting experience, from the look to the sound to the overlaid HUDs - but they never bothered with one of the most crucial elements to get that broadcasting feel.

forza is worth any platform, if racing is your thing. ;)

Forza is the game that reminded me racing was fun.

I suck at it, but yeah, Forza is one of the few series I buy day one without even bothering to learn about it anymore. I just... yes. I will. Always and forever. Forza.

I dont know how strong or weak xbox one is but that game looks absolutely flawless! Racing games are gonna rock next gen.

Indeed. I actually like the stylised lighting/look it has going on. While its not the PGR5 we all wanted it seems to incorporate a little bit of that PGR feel. And besides, PGR5 might land next year. Very impressive looking game this, very good looking.

And here's the game.

The didnt show those shots as ingame or realtime,, those were clearly artworks and noone stayed otherwise. Turn10 has been pretty clean and honest in the development of Forza 1,2,4 and Horizon, it was during Forza 3 that MS PR told them to be more agressive and less honest, you could see Dan being very vocal about their franchise and GT while in all the other game marketing he has been quite humble and honest.

Up to this point i havent seen anyone of Turn10 saying that this video is ingame/realtime (which is normaly stayed in the video). I will believe it when someone at Turn10 make it official.

honestly, despite it being the better looking game, Forza 5's visuals do not impress me as much as what Polyphony has done with GT6 on ancient PS3 hardware.

I was hoping to at least see something sort of close to project CARS from this next gen stuff.

I downloaded the hi res gamersyde footage. It looks acceptable for what I consider a first generation nextgen game. Environments are just ok but the car models are pretty impressive.

Eh, honestly... looking at those screens and the footage again, it still looks like it's too CGI-ish to me (a la Autovista in FM4). Maybe it's just the lighting or the colours and it'll be fixed, but none of what I saw could be passed off as real. Again, maybe with some colour tweaks it could be, but as it was shown... there's still that hyperreal/too "perfect" look about it.

Not enough to sell me on the console as it is, I'm afraid. Though I'm curious to see just how much can be done now that disc storage isn't an issue.

Holy fucking shit!!!!

That's the atmosphere I was talking about Turn 10.
Can't fucking wait for E3!!

Beasty!!!!

Looked amazing!
You're dead to me.

forza is worth any platform, if racing is your thing. ;)

Come E3, I want dan stashed in a room, showing and discussing the game.
Realtime, joypad/wheel/kinect in hand.

and someone better ask microsoft whats the deal with the steering wheels this generation..
will it be as retarded as last time?
You too.

Are you deaf? It's called E3.
They're not pitting PGR against Forza. No way in hell. Worse than putting it against Halo 3.
PS. We were supposed to hear a bunch of things "mid-May" from Lucid. So far, we've only heard about one game.

Its replay footage, which gives high LOD models for the vehicles..we've been tricked before by Turn 10.
Yup.

I trust nothing on any of these games. Forza 5, Drive Club, none of this stuff is "gameplay" until I see actual gameplay.

Don't really care for how this looks though, I want to know what they're doing to up the ante in customization, community features, breadth in modes and disciplines, etc. Pretty much everything mentioned in the Bosman video and then some.

In case you guys didn't see it in the PGR5 thread, I figured I'd post my theory given that PGR is getting a few mentions here:

Unless, like I said, PGR5 is going to be a last hurrah for the 360. *That* is the only thing I could see happening that would do the game proud and also give it a fighting chance for those who choose to wait out buying a new console. And I guess it's more than remotely possible, especially considering that post or comment (I can't even remember where I remember it from now) that mentioned them building off the PGR4 engine for the new title they were working on. THAT would make sense.

*If* that were true, then it would mean a larger casual audience would see PGR5 as they're more likely to own a 360 than a One. And by the time PGR6 comes around, most of the trickery and techniques to wring the most out of the One should be better than whatever FM5 can get out of it at launch. Plus imagine the online integration like we saw at that presentation in line with something like PGR2's online. Fuuuuu....
(I think I got to repeating myself, but I was a bit emotional at the time *sniff*)
Is anyone else with me on the likelyhood of PGR5 appearing on the 360? More I think about it, more it strikes me as being somewhat likely. It'd fit into pretty much everything we've seen and heard already... and keep in mind the reason they felt they were held back with PGR4 was due to disc space, but with FM4 paving the way for multi-disc driving games, maybe that's what they're working on? A few more cities, with all having full day-night cycles? Even on the existing (albeit tweaked) engine, that could be exactly what we're looking for. In fact, even better, because we wouldn't need a new console to play it!

You're so cynical. :P

Can't wait to see actual gameplay at E3 though (as in, someone holding a controller and playing the damn thing live on stage).

Forza looked fucking gorgeous though. And it's a launch title too. I'm not the biggest racing fan, but I'll still pick this up (unless PGR is announced for launch, in which case I'd prefer them as it's slightly more arcade style of racer that I enjoy).

From my own perspective, FM5 has a bloody big task ahead of it. It needs to undo my apathy from yesterday's hardware presentation and convince me to buy an Xbox One. I've slept on it but my feelings are even stronger this morning - I simply cannot believe how unappealing the new console is to me. Xbox One seems to be the total fucking antithesis of what I want from a games machine. I really don't give two fucks about insta-switching between films, games, web and skype because I don't have ADD. I absolutely hate the whole concept of Kinect and despise the fact it's being forced upon me at my own expense. I do not like the blocky 1980s NES aesthetic of the actual console itself. I'm disappointed at the mid-level technical specs. I'm fucking FURIOUS that gaming isn't the primary focus on a fucking gaming console. Microsoft couldn't have targeted me less accurately if they'd tried.

FM5 might, might sell me an Xbox One, but it needs to blow my socks off if Microsoft want my money this Christmas. It needs double the track count of FM4 with all glaring fan-request omissions filled, and continual support via DLC. It needs an engaging and structured career mode that constantly feeds and rewards my enthusiasm for progression. It needs an AUTHENTIC and vibrant motorsport ambience that is sympathetic to the discipline, not some rock festival atmosphere with fireworks and lasers. It needs to drop soccer, and bowling, and (unless they are treated with the respect they deserve) drag racing and drifting. It needs 20+ car grids of balanced AI with tight, competitive racing across the board, NOT a pack of stragglers at the back, then you, then a God-like nemesis driver half a lap ahead. It needs night racing, precipitation, and variable lighting conditions. It needs proper tyre wear and fuel depletion, and it needs pit stops to be necessary for race completion, or to change damaged aero parts. It needs longer races, with qualifying sessions and real emphasis on the importance of grid positions. It needs a proper penalty system to encourage clean driving.

It needs a lot, to be honest.

I'm assuming that the graphics will be incredible, that v-synched 60fps will still be achieved with better IQ and better AA. I'm assuming audio will be amazing, and that car physics, controls, upgrades and customisation will be deeper and more accessible than ever. I'm assuming all cars from FM4 will be present and updated, with new cars added to the roster. I'm assuming menus will be intuitive and slick to navigate, and that the overall presentation will be gorgeous.

I'm assuming it all works with my Fanatec FFB wheel.

So, over to you, Turn 10. My socks are on. Do your damnedest.

Gotta love Forza fans

Forza 4: They need to add some race day atmosphere, its to sterile.

Forza 5: WTF is going on with all this atmosphere, that's not my Forza

Amen brother!

Seeing those screens and footage, sent shivers down my spine.

I know this isn't a track in the traditional sense but i'm so glad that Turn 10 have fibnally listened to my pleading and bitching.

I've asked on a thousand occasions, "Turn 10 we need atmosphere"...they give us atmosphere.
"Turn 10, how about some good sized crowds that look like they are enjoying the action"..they give us that
"Turn 10, i'm at a race, I want to see the trackside populated with movement and fanfare"..they give us that.
"Turn 10, I want to see tyre wear"...they give us that.
"Turn 10, how about some commentary"...they give us that.(In game is still to be determined of course)
"Turn 10, I'd like to see a better look paint job on my car, I want it to look stunning"..they give us that.

Now, if those requests were answered just by watching a short teaser, I can only imagine what other requests of ours will be answered when they show off the full game?

The only thing I didn't get to hear properly were the sounds. Too much going on over the top. But I did get to hear some great shifting effects in the McLaren. Sounded amazing.
I'm hoping to hear some more very soon.

Bring on the info Turn 10!!

Hey BADNED, do you have access to the B-Roll version of that video?

When asked on Twitter if the new system supports Xbox 360 headsets, Xbox Support reiterated the statement we received, saying, "Only Xbox One accessories will work with Xbox One, which helps us deliver better headset audio and other benefits."

So does this mean my Fanatec will not work with FM5?

Its replay footage, which gives high LOD models for the vehicles..we've been tricked before by Turn 10.

No, it isn't even replay footage. It's the game engine being used to pre-render a video with whatever parameters they wish. Similar to Gran-Turismo trailers.

Don't expect the final game to look like that, but it also won't be much different.

Everyone does this including Polyphony, do you honestly think the GT6 footage is ingame?

GTs replays don't switch models. Hell even the pre-rendered higher resolution trailers released had the lowest LOD models.

I hear you. I'm not exactly sold on the new Xbox, either; chalk it up to gaming fatigue brought on by advancing age, but frankly, none of the new systems seem particularly appealing to me right now.

FM5 is the only title announced thus far that has me even remotely interested, and while there's an awful lot I'd like to see from the game, given the two-year dev cycle, and the inevitable challenges of developing on new hardware, I'm going to keep my expectations measured.

So, Turn 10, give me a proper day-to-night cycle, rain, pit stops, and Spa and you
might
have a sale.

Bring on E3.

Having just re-watched the (Godawful) 'dancing cars' promo for FM3, I now feel a little better about the FM5 one. I'd forgotten Turn 10 had released that abomination, yet the game turned out great.

This FM5 one is still a fucking terrible promo though. Not just a terrible FM5 promo, but a terrible promo full stop. Badly directed, badly cut, badly edited. Let's hope it's soon forgotten (like the FM3 one was) at E3.

I have the impression FM5 was squeezed in at last minute to make the console look decent.

Maybe PGR5 showing was scrapped in favour of something more popular, and i have a feeling T10 is under pressure and constraints to make it for launch, which is bad news.
I'm not expecting weather or even dynamic tod tbh.

We'll see at E3, but when the only title that would make me consider buying this trainwreck of a console has been basically confirmed not to work with my beloved Fanatec...it becomes a lot easier to forget about it and not feel bad.
I'm not buying a new wheel (assuming there's even a decent wheel you can buy for xbox one when the game ships).

PGR fans have been pretty noisy over the past few months, could it be possible T10 put the trailer together to appeal to them?

I've got a feeling that's what Turn 10 did for the game. A combination of both in the full game.
Have track based racing as it's core and PGR-esqie elements for those who are inclined to PGR.

Interesting...

The account that asked the question still has the tweet, including 3 other tweets which replies were removed by Rick_Lesley

I'm useless at Twitter. How do I find the other halves to these conversations?

If my Fanatec doesn't work with XBOne then Microsoft truly do suck the sweat from a dead man's balls. I'll buy TWO fucking PS4s just to spite them.

We need answers on this. I'm already very anti-XBOne based on current knowledge. A new protocol for wheels would be the nail in the coffin.

Wow, that would be unbelievably stupid. Have we heard anything about wether they're moving from XID to HID? If so, isn't the Fanatec wheel XID and HID compatible? Or are they "inventing" another USB protocol?

I will say same thing as in other thread:

All MS videos were CGI. Difference is that they used probably assets from games. Lighting models and effects were not probably from actual game engines and of course IQ can't look that good on box with 1,3 Tf. Right now we don't know if MS is targeting 1080p as native res for games.

For example parts of that footage were from actual engine but that shot with fire from mufler ? No way in hell that is real time engine footage or T10 delivered best looking fire ever in videogaming... which we know they not.

Forza 5 will look amazing will look better than GT6 but i think it is better to keep reasonable expectations for IQ and lighting.

That rumor is bullshit. Either they will go XID or HID Fanatec wheels will work. I hope they changed to HID as amar described in one of his post why it is better for racing game.

Yup, not believing anything until I see gameplay. I remember when these screens were released for Forza 4, and then they showed the in-game demonstration that didn't look anywhere near this good. Hell, this autovista locale didn't even make it into the final game.

And here's the game.

Did they really try to pass those top screens off as FM4? I don't even remember that. Holy shit :lol

What we saw today was obviously just a teaser and in no way representative of what the game will look like. The screens look nice though. Can't wait for the gameplay reveal.

Okay, this is getting serious now:

WHAT ARE YOU SAYING MICROSOFT? WHAT ABOUT OUR FANATEC WHEELS THAT EMULATES X360 CONTROLLER WHEN IN WHEEL MODE?

Somebody needs to ask proper questions on right places ASAP.

I just cannot believe what a clusterfuck the last 18 hours has been. Why have a dedicated launch event and then leave so many questions unanswered? Why leave so many rumours festering?

I've not seen one positive press review of the event. I wonder if Microsoft were expecting this kind of fallout?

Staying on topic and agreeing here; I'm certainly hoping for a lot of FM5 footage at E3 and maybe, just maybe, playable FM5 stands.

I don't own a wheel, but this is serious indeed. Hope T10 can clarify at least (haha, like they always do...)

Since when XID is emmulation of X360 controller ?

This could also mean they move to HID.

But they could use PGR to do that.

FM5 should be all another story.

They can do both. Add more fantasy/city tracks to expand the Forza track roster and add lots of driving aids to let people burn around like nutcases without worrying to much about damage and grip.

I've heard anecdotally that Thomas has something along the lines of (paraphrase) "if we can get Fanatec wheels working with XBO, we will". Can't find a direct source though.

It just keeps getting better and better! Jesus Christ.

News is depressing. It has been nothing but nightmares ever since next gen was first talked about for MS.
