UK Xbox One pre-orders ahead of PS4, although PS4 enjoys post Xbox spike

nothing really says that didn't happen. it kinda sorta even sold out in the usa at first.

it's sales after have been horrible.

The thread suggests otherwise. MCV's sources are dodgy at best. Doesn't mean this new story is not true, it's just even more difficult to verfify.

This means nothing, im sure you could dig up reports of more preorders than ever before for nearly every bit of gaming hardware thats come out. I think there were even positive preorder stories about wiiu.

Even more So do Sony.
Why even more? The pressure to announce is on MS because of all the rumours lately, Sony have been able to get through this relatively lightly so far, if anything they'd be less likely to announce anti-used measures after seeing the reaction.

Prices haven't been confirmed either, so MCV's comparison is more than a bit pointless.

I would be shocked if Xbox One did not get more preorders in the UK.

COD timed exclusive map packs, FIFA exclusive content, Halo TV Show and Forza (top gear content) will make the XBOX One the must have preorder this Christmas in the UK.

Pre-orders at this point are, effectively, zero.

There's not even pricing announced yet.

I like how the article suggests online forums might not be statistically relevant compared to console pre-orders from two dozen retail locations when one of the devices hasn't even been shown in the flesh yet.

- its getting to the summer time, game releases will dry up, people will be waiting for news of what is coming in the autumn.

- PS4 was a little early for that, I doubt they were expecting many preorders from what they showed.

- xbox one showed a box. Thats a big thing to make it feel 'real'.

- PS4 started advertising.

So I think the kick off for preorders really only just started. E3 when games (and the PS4 box) are shown is where it really gets going.

Yeah, I'm not sure how relevant those TV features really can be over here in the UK. Suppose we'll find out soon enough, but I'm more inclined to think that this news is a natural consequence of the strong position the 360 has carved out in the UK, rather than because of the X1 proposition.

Still, it maybe illustrates how Sony isn't just going to be able to rock up with the PS4 and take back the markets lost to MS, regardless of how much positive buzz there is about the PS4 right now on the internet. It's going to take time, if they can even manage it at all. Which in itself illustrates just how hard they fucked up with the PS3 between 2006 and 2008 after being unassailable with the PS2.

I wonder why the UK is so Xbox-heavy. Is this a language thing? English speaking players playing with other English speaking players across the pond? Or is this all Netflix' fault? Do Brits just love to pay for online gaming? Shared affinities for shooting dudes/aliens in the face? Or is it just because it's green? How? Somebody explain this to me!

edit: forgot the most important question of all: is it the shoes?

As I said, right now they're behind the PS4 on Amazon UK... I'm not sure how relevant this list is, though.

I don't really get why the pre-orders of Xbox One in UK are rising. All those "fantastic" TV features that will make the Xbox One the better console possible will not be available in that country. Not this year. So, why this reaction?

Er did you even read the thread? We lived through it lol. Again, it's not to say this isn't true, but that given the website's past reports, I hold no confidence in it.

I was hoping pre-orders would be abysmal for both, so the consoles makers learn that that they cannot take our money for granted.

But it seems, as expected, these products are going to be the hottest ticket this Christmas. Amazon has had both on 1 and 2 locked down.

both in movers and shakers:

and best sellers:

This is pointless really until after E3, although I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar situation where Xbox wins in the US and the UK, PS4 pretty much everywhere else.

MS have to announce their policies at some point, who knows whether that will have an effect on preorders.

Sony does too and I think it will not be any different than MS.

MS has been upfront about it. Sony has not.

didn't think it was 'that' xbox heavy. Certainly more popular than PS3 but not like double or anything

Don't really know but the way way MS took the market from Sony in the UK was a shock. The UK was staunchly Sony then the 360 came along, if MS are being honest even they will probably have trouble explaining how it happened.

Are we really asking this?

It's pretty obvious.

I was speaking to a cousin that came up for the bank holiday break and he had no idea about any of the pr nightmare microsoft is experiencing. He gets his gaming info from the xbox360 dashboard and he watched the conference through the dashboard. This is obviously anecdotal, but it's easy to assume that people who have an xbox360 and aren't as entrenched in the gaming world as us, saw a lot of stuff they liked and never even new about the sony conference back in february. They don't know that all the tv shit they saw in that conference they wont be getting.

This preorder previsions are just ridiculous. it's already just a sign of how passionate are fans of a brand usually, but there.. Without even prices announced..

Those UKers are going to be pissed once they find out MS didn't make the box for them.

MS are aware that that UK/europe do have different tv services.

and in one interview without confirming support, they did say they are working with tv services outside of US.

Here in UK there are 4 main tv suppliers

freeview,freesat,SKY and virgin media

freeview and freesat being the most popular because they are free, I really dont see why the X1 could not offer the same service as the US market for freesat + freeview, it would just be a software change afterall.

Another thing tv companies could do in partnership with Microsoft is sell X1 companion boxes, where they would create a small box (apple tv size) that receives the signal and decodes it and the X1 does everything else. It would certainly be better then having twho big boxes under your tv.

or maybe third parties could create a freeview/freesat HD dongle which has sat cable inputs in it and a HDMI out for the X1. Having a small power brick sized dongle would be a lot better then having to have a separate cable box too, and it would really be like having one box for everything because the dongle would be hidden to the eye.

That would actually be a great product ''fressat/freeview HD dongle for xbox one''

and I dont see why the X1 could not record tv aswell, the box is certainly capable in recording whatever is on screen.

Better marketing perhaps?

Because it was cheaper.

You could pre-order it straight after the reveal in feb, in most UK stores.
Such as?

GAME, and who else?

We don't really have a gaming landscape any more. Currys not taking pre-orders yet. Tesco only just now starting to take pre-orders and I've not seen any other pre-ordering at retail for either console, only online.

I don't rate MCV's sources much these days. They get too much wrong.

And you're telling me that in 24 hours XBone got more pre-orders than the PS4 from February until now.

Don't believe it.

Because we know MS is going with DRM of sorts. Sony has said you can play used games, thus giving the impression of no DRM.

Title doesn't reflect the content of the OP. Not quite the experience I was expecting.

Edit: They asked one retailer about the pre orders, title suggests xbox one is ahead in all of UK.

Who or what entity is the source?

Are all stores in the UK taking preorders?

Are more stores taking preorders for the Xbox vice the PS4?

What are the actual numbers?

All questions that are still unanswered by these hilariously vague "preorder" articles.

Its meant to be an all-in-one device and now you're proposing they sell add-on dongles and boxes...

I couldn't give a shite what you believe or not.

The article is really confusing to me now. So they called some retailers? As in different chains or as in different of the same chain?

Are preorders available everywhere in the uk? I don't think they are in the us.

Just shot off some emails to a few of the bank's contacts in retail. Same ones as always. Want to get a read on what they are seeing.

I couldn't give a shite what you believe or not.
Thanks. You can have your belief, I can have mine.

But do answer my question.

Where is it available - at retail - to pre-order? Either console? Because obviously GAME, Tesco have just started putting up signage but where else? I've not seen it - so I'm asking where, not for fucking insults.

Is the PS4 even available for preorder yet? I thought it wasn't. If that's the case, it's not surprising that Xbone is outpacing it.

Even so, it's the UK, where 360 did beat PS3, so I would expect a 60/40 breakdown when all is said and done.
