Yes, his biggest counter are big single target nukes.
It gives him 13% more EHP for spells. Its a pretty good buff, since spell damage is the of the biggest things he has to worry about.

Yeah, I had a SD game yesterday where I was stuck with carries as my picks, so I went Necrolyte, and at the last minute three other people took Drow, Spectre, and Sniper. We won but it was annoying

Same here, though it can backfire occasionally, because then you get games like this where you have barely any carry potential late game. That Nyx had a fucking field day on us squishy casters too, arg that was a frustrating match-up.
Last time I tried to pick a carry (because we were lacking carries and I was the last pick), I had a treant in my lane that took all my creeps, refused to heal me, leave me to die many times and on top of that just got a hood of defiance and boots at 30 mins in. Then said in broken english that he would commend anyone that reports me.
These past days I've been in really bad teams. Other days I get nice supports or a good enough team so I can support and go hunt heroes.
I only pick carries, because randoms never carry me.

I'm starting to understand why a lot of people think all pick is the worst. There's something to be said about people valuing picks more in modes where the roster is restricted, at least from what I've noticed.
Played a lot of DOTA this weekend...went 2 wins 7 losses. Of those losses, two of them stung particularly badly as we lost in the late stages of the game (one of which was lost even though we had taken two sets of racks-I snowballed hard as Lina mid- team decided to not group and just solo farm while OD along with their team picked them off one by one despite my plea to group and finish). I don't think I'll ever get to .500 at this point (maybe I should just start a new account)...
I'm tempted to play nothing but Riki at this point until I get back to .500...
I've made up my mind not to pick supports anymore unless I'm playing with people that are significantly better than me. I've played far too many games in which helping my team's carry rack up kills does nothing because he/she can't last hit...

No but my winrate improved significantly.

lane axe with mana boots is one of the more depressing lanes to go against, imo. It's up there with Kunkka lanes.
