It means you can start your 20GB DL and then play it when it's done. Just like Steam. You know what would be even better? Carrying the disc to your friends house and playing without the 4 hour DL and being able to let him get achievements on his account.

You’ll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly.

:)

And the unsung reversal of the day?

Death to the used games fees rumor. BAM!

That whole Xbox Wire idea was brilliant.

The best part is that MS mentioned they could change any policy based on feedback.

Edit: The whole Kinect privacy always on privacy debacle. Deaded!

You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences.

The policies literally don't affect me in any way, I always purchase the digital versions wherever available, I never sell games, I never rent games, I never buy used games.

The last time my internet was out for more than 24 hours simultaneously was back in 04, If my internet does go out I can internet share with my Lumia 920 to spend the 1Kb required to log into the servers and do the verification check.

In fact, Its actually a bonus to me because I can share my games with my brothers and/or give away if I really wanted to (hint, I dont!)

The only time my ISP has been down in the past 4 years was when I didnt have power.

But it would suck when moving because internet is always set up a couple days later.

I feel like somebody is gonna label me a gigantic fanboy or nutcase if I mention there are advantages for me when it comes to all of this.

But it's true, I'm like you. I buy all my games new, I don't lend, and I'm always online. In fact since I've had my 360 (06) I've always had to have it online, it feels anemic being offline.

So it's amusing that the more they reveal on this, the more benefits seem to be appearing for me.

Where have they even advertised that time? You would think it would be well known by now.

Like everywhere? It's pretty common knowledge.

I really don't think its that tough to find out.

Although most of these new details don't really effect me very much, I can see why people are having major issues with what MS is doing.

VVVVV What he said. They really need to impress with the games on Monday.

these E3 game reveals better be earth-shattering.. because right now I cannot recommend the x1 to anyone I know.

On 24 check? That's the killer ingredient. Because trade-ins are going to be the exact same.

I didn't care when I bought Diablo and I certainly will not care here.

This isn't about "you" or "me".

I bought a console for my brother's kid and guess what, he never connected the box nor will he ever.

You guys need some reality check. The whole world isn't revolved around AMERIKA and greedy ass game publishers.

They still have a lot to clarify. It says family members can be playing from the same shared games list, but doesn't say that they can be playing the same game at the same time. If that is allowed, it would mean you and your wife, kid whatever would only need one copy of Halo to play Halo multiplayer together. Lots of lost sales there if true.

There's no way they'd let you play at the same time. This is where the 1 hour online check comes in. If one of your family members' is playing the game at the same time offline, then they'd only have an hour to play before they get booted out.

- Internet required each 24hrs
- You can share your game library with all consoles inside your house (same network)
- You can share your game library up to 10 family members on any console (even in another house)
- All your game library on the cloud
- You can transfer the game licence only 1 time
- Second hand games with selected retailers.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

You shouldn't feel the need to apologize for anything, I'm in the very same situation, and all of this honestly sounds great. In my case, there are only benefits to be gained from these policies, at least it seems that way at the moment.

It's too bad things are not working out for you. Better luck elsewhere.

Agreed.

I'm in the same boat as those who have a constant Internet connection and don't buy used games, but I realise that there's tons out people out there who don't.

I feel like MS is severly limiting its potential userbase with the 24 hour check in and the DRM stuff.

So let me get this straight; trade ins are up to the publisher.

If so that is the EXACT thing Sony has said all along.

Yes. There was no way EA would drop online passes if only Microsoft was going to allow this. Sony's policies are probably more lenient though which is why EA has aligned more with MS than with Sony. If MS fails, expect EA to shift to Sony and start making games for Nintendo again. If MS succeeds, expect Sony to capitulate to whatever it is MS is doing that EA likes.

enjoy trying to play your games this christmas or whenever the servers shut down in 10-15 years...

Thank you. Have a nice day!

They are, and it sucks, I don't get what your complaint with people here is? Nobody disagrees ..

I certainly do not believe it had any real impact to Diablo 3 sales at all. I guess we shall see if 24 hour check kills the Xbox.

Oh. I'm not really complaining about the people in this thread. Guess I'm a bit tired.

Diablo III was only one game, though. There's tons of PC-games that let's you play offline as much as you want.

I don't think that the Xbox brand is in danger of dying anytime soon, just that it won't sell as well as it could have without the DRM.

•Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

The fact that I can share my library over the internet with 10 friends is awesome. I have like 100 xbox 360 games and I buy more than anyone so Its nice that they can digitally browse my games and give them a go. So yeah I guess my spending habits won't change.

I did three years in Afghanistan. Video games are a huge time-killer over there for a lot of folks. What Microsoft did with Xbox 1 is ensure that guys on tour will never buy one or bring one with them when they're deployed. It's weird that they'd essentially thumb their noses at people like that.

I will, thanks. The thing is, if the authentication check is implemented as a service running in the cloud (as opposed to a bunch of dedicated servers that you'll want to shut down at some point to free up the resources), it theoretically doesn't have to shut down ever. And even if it does, a simple firmware update could get rid of the requirement altogether.

They're coming up with a solution for people serving in the army and such, basically unlocking all requirements I think.

So, if I'm reading it right, every game will be available digitally at the games launch? If so, that's great, for so many reasons to me.

There are some good ideas and features in between all of today's news. And some bad.

The good first, to me of course:

There's something about having all games in the HDD and being able to play them whenever (so, like in Steam for example) without putting the blu-rays in the drive that's very appealing. I own some thirty retail 360 games. It's never been a hassle to carry them wherever I carry my console, but it's a plus to me just being able to carry the console itself and just turning it on, play or switch games on the fly just like that and not having to insert or remove disks or carry them around.

The give-a-game-to-a-friend-of-yours: It's a neat idea, is it perfect? No. But for example... Say I have a brother, I'm older than him by quite a few years and my life is my own and I live far away from my family and my brother. They don't have the capacity to buy games as often as I do. And generally speaking, I play a game and many times I get over it quick, like after a month, and I know I won't play it again or that I won't miss it. I can give it to him. Like you can give any game today to anyone, yes, but it's practical, specially in situations like the one I mentioned above, and all-around it's one idea that doesn't bring anything bad along with it, so why not? I'm all for it.

The bad, to me:

24-hour period to check-in online. Just this year I went to spend 5 days away from home in a rented house for the new year's eve with my friends. Rural village, house had no internet connection. Boom. This year I played Rock Band 3, FM4, Gears, CoD, etc, etc. On the Xbox one? Won't be possible, better play as much as you can in those 24 hours. There are a huge number of situations where this check-in is harmful. You don't do all your gaming at your home, in its comfort, and with internet always on. Microsoft knows these situations and chose to ignore them. Not a good choice in my opinion.

So many restrictions: You can give a game to your friend, only once. Why can't you lend them a game for a couple days? Or until whenever? You may be able to gift a game, and as I said, I think that is absolutely fine and a good idea. If they didn't allow you to do it, I'd be fine with them not allowing other things. But since they do let you gift, why not let you lend? A friend can borrow a game from you at any time today. Why can't it be a gift, but instead of having a one-way ticket, have a two-way ticket? I can give it to X, but X can always give it back to me. No one else, but me. If both love the game in question, both will buy it, excluding some single-player games I suppose. But it's as I said, today you can lend single-player games to friends as well. It wouldn't hurt the industry as it stands.

Just a few initial thoughts about news today, hope I made them clear.

TL;DR: There's some good ideas in MS' policies regarding the online check-in and the ability to give games, but they seem to be held back and lose a lot of what makes them good because on the other hand their restrictions are way too harsh.

It will be interesting to see how many of those policies will still remain let's say a year from launch, if the people that are upset right now represent majority od potential XBO buyers, I'd say not many.
Not to mentions EU bureaucrats, not sure if those new/old explanations about Kinect and privacy will be satisfying enough for them, I know they're not for me.

I'm thinking the 10 people you can share games with must be accounts originating on your console or something like that.

I have a family plan now with my family. They all just live in different states. One is Florida, one is Georgia, Delaware and Maryland. We each pay 25 bucks a year for live. All we had to do was just log everyone into my console once and then add them to family plan. So this sounds amazing to me.

It's happening a lot in the other thread. People say "why can't see why this is awful?!?" but yet they can't see why other people can see the benefits. Personally this will work great for me. There is no point defending it though, you'll just be labeled as a shill or hater of freedom or some such.

If you bring up Steam the only response is "yeah well the games are cheap!" so it's not about your consumer rights, it's about your pocket book. That's fine but at least be honest about it.

I think there are a lot of people generally pissed off at Microsoft, but I maintain that a lot of people are fanboys and are relishing this so Sony can reclaim the crown or whatever nonsense. I won't defend any of MS's actions, but I'm not ever going to pretend like they're an issue for me and I hate them, because I don't.

I'll enjoy whatever benefits I get from them, unapologetically.
