It's happening a lot in the other thread. People say "why can't see why this is awful?!?" but yet they can't see why other people can see the benefits. Personally this will work great for me. There is no point defending it though, you'll just be labeled as a shill or hater of freedom or some such.

If you bring up Steam the only response is "yeah well the games are cheap!" so it's not about your consumer rights, it's about your pocket book. That's fine but at least be honest about it.

OH man, I'm going to have to double this. NEVER bring up the steam argument, I did in the other thread and then for 4 pages I had people quoting me to tell me how much of a dumbass I was for making the comparison. I even brought up some examples of where Microsoft did huge digital sales and they would have none of it.

Can I be your family member? ;)

I don't think so. I'm guessing your going to have to log all your live accounts into one console for this to work. So unless you trust your live username and password with someone I don't think they will make the 10 list.

I think there are a lot of people generally pissed off at Microsoft, but I maintain that a lot of people are fanboys and are relishing this so Sony can reclaim the crown or whatever nonsense. I won't defend any of MS's actions, but I'm not ever going to pretend like they're an issue for me and I hate them, because I don't.

I'll enjoy whatever benefits I get from them, unapologetically.

I understand that some people might be upset but the hyperbole is....just too much. Maybe it's because I'm older than most of the posters here. I have a very hard time getting so upset about video games, as much as I love them.

Why couldn't you just log in for that person on your machine? Make a temporary password first or whatever. Also, why couldn't people share a single account?

EDIT: I should have read your second sentence lol.

So you can give away/trade your downloaded games once?

Yeah thats what they said. I don't know how you would give it away more than once anyways? I think this will really come down to how the sharing works. And if it is like I said then for most it will suck but for me it will be awesome.

Yeah I do have to stop and question it, I envisage people losing sleep over it, the level of outrage and vitriol toward MS is so high.

I'm going DD only, but I have a few stinkers on steam that I wouldn't mind giving away or trading so this is pretty cool.

For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps). In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband.

Does this mean that if your broadband is down, you can still do the 24hr authentication? How does it use mobile broadband - through internet sharing on a phone or does it have 3G build in?

pretty sure he means you can use a much slower mobile 3g connection and still validate your cotent. So you could hotspot your phone if you wanted.

I'm upset because no MS product requires or required this on me before this black box of doom.

Even the new Office 2013 is offered in discs in third/developing world countries.

Here, MS says fuck you to gamers who supported their overheating POS for 8 years and is basically bending over for greedy publishers.

In that case I don't have a problem with the 24hr check-in. At home I rarely am without broadband, but this could prove useful for those occasions it does happen or if I ever were to take my Xbox with me on holiday.

Could this also be the solution for military personnel, which seems to be an issue brought up a lot. They could issue them with mobile hotspots.

I have a problem with it. What's the benefit to me? If they show me games I have to have, I'll buy it, but I won't like some of these policies that are clearly not meant to serve me better.

That must be checked every 24 hours

Can only be GIVEN (READ: forget lending it, bro) ONCE to people on your friendlist for at least 30 days

Might as well shove a Kinect up my ass and be done with it with these restrictions

I'm not changing my avatar until the 11th.

#believe #PGR

Could be a Gamescon game, in fact I bet if it is in the works that's where it'll be announced, they don't need 2 racers being shown at the same event.

I don't think the 24 hour this is suppose to be in anyway beneficial to the gamer, it just enables all the other stuff.

I think even 48 hours would be better though, for weekends away.

Ok, I don't want to be argumentative about it, but don't you have internet? You're posting here so I assume you do unless you only post on your phone?

About the second point, how does this affect you? Do you have a group of friends who buy a single copy of a game and then pass it around?

I think you're exactly right. They had a system they wanted to implement but without having a way to check your rights there would be far too many loopholes.

I don't disagree with him but making internet mandatory is important if that's what your platform is about and I get that. So we might not see any benefit but check in but we know everyone who has an X1 has internet so they can build around that theory. While Sony and Nintendo can't.

1- Not a "me" issue. I buy lots of shit to my family and I don't control their lives with mandatory online check jesus christ this is a game box

2- I lend games plenty of times. Why take options I had since the fucking NES? In my case, the SNES.

Seems to me this isn't the console for you.

The benefit is that you can play your installed games without inserting the disk.
If you accept that the publishers need to check that your copy of the game is legit (to avoid piracy, or abuse from people sharing the same game at different places), then you need either a hardware or software verification.
Hardware requires shuffling disks, software requires to keep your console plugged to your internet access. The second one should be more convenient.

Microsoft presumable knows how people are using the Xbox 360s they've bought and so how many people have them connected to the internet. While I'm sure they are going to alienate some people with this I don't think it's as many as this forum might lead you to believe but we shall see. For me just the fact that ALL games will be available at release as digital downloads is huge. I'm tired of having to do pre-orders or risk not being able to find a game or not being able to find older games I want. That's why I love Steam, game comes out, click Buy and I can play it, it's convenient.

Anyway, there is still a few months until release, we'll find out how all of this is going to shake out by then.

And it won't be.

Will stick to my Windows Phone. At least Joe Belfiore is too slow to code any of this shit anytime soon.

LOL

Yes, which means we will see benefits in the long run. I know it's been mentioned many times before, but it's very similar to how they chose to exclude dial-up users with the first Xbox. That decision has proven to be very beneficial to them, but also to those gamers who were able to use Live at the time, and it basically shaped the whole of the next generation.

I'll be honest, most of the things in the MS release doesn't bother me, however...

-I do buy new and sell my games. Most of the time I sell to regular people, not to an outlet.
-While I'm 100% connected to the internet, I don't like this incessant need to hold my hands just so I can play a game I OWN/PURCHASED. If I own something I want to be able to play it without having to ping a server to tell me that I'm allowed to play. It is too invasive.
-The word "enable." It means it is up to the publishers and likely the default option is exactly what we feared.
-This whole thing with MS and other internet companies providing data on their customers to the U.S. government does not inspire confidence in a device that will likely always require an internet connection to play (i.e. The Cloud) and have a device that can listen and see what I'm doing at all times (yes, I realize Kinect can be turned off).

I'm happy they did this before E3 and I hope MS can prove to me they care about gamers by showing off a diverse set of games for the XBO.

I just hate physical media and having shelves for stuff sucks.

I agree with this also.

Agreed, there is no immediate benefit with the 24hrs check, but it enables things like no disc required and the family policy, so that's where I see the benefit.

If Sony has the same used game policy by leaving it up to developers but at the same time don't require an online check, it could mean the disc will need to stay in the drive. Maybe MS could have offed this as an additional authentication method for those with no Internet?

I agree that maybe 48hrs would be better, but I'm sure they'll monitor this and may increase the time out if needed.

Big one about always online is having updates in the background or game downloads without having to physically turn on the console.

I still have to fire up my PC or leave it on for games to download/update.

----------------

Is it weird as a PC gamer that I'm interested in the One?

Feel like a unicorn here.

They are trying to go digital only. If they force their customers online it will be easier later to go fully digital. Leaving options on the table for disc is not in their agenda and I understand. After the first year we start seeing sales for digital games.

Not exactly what I meant. Sony has been saying we will leave it up to the publisher. MS says yea same.

There is zero difference in this policy stance.

There's actually a huge difference. From what's been said, Sony's policy is basically the same as it is now, i.e. we can trade games the same way we've always been able to by default and publishers can set their own restrictions if they wanted to. MS on the other hand has flipped it around, trading in games is blocked by default, but publishers have the option to enable trading in your game at selected stores.

I thought it was hinted?

Maybe I'm concluding incorrectly.

Yeah I'm assuming as well, I mean you can already add to queue from Xbox.com. With the console supposedly always 'connected' it allows for this.

Er, the result is the same, EA for instance have the option to block or allow on both systems. How they're worded is irrelevant.
