11:50 AM ET / 8:50 AM PT – XBOX PRE-SHOW WITH EXCLUSIVE REVEALS!
E3 stars early on Spike and GT as we kick off our coverage from our new studio at L.A. Live in Los Angeles. Our countdown to the Xbox briefing begins when Xbox's PHIL SPENCER joins Geoff at the Galen Center to announce all the games that will be a part of the Summer of Arcade lineup for Xbox 360. Plus, you don't have to wait until the Xbox briefing for a game announcement: Microsoft reveals a new first-party Xbox One title during the pre-show with the world premiere trailer.

12:30 PM ET – 2 PM – XBOX: A NEW GENERATION OF GAMES REVEALED

2 PM ET – 3 PM – THIEF, SAINTS ROW, FORZA, CASTLEVANIA, RYSE AND MORE
Immediately following the Xbox press conference we're back live with reactions and world premiere demos — and ANOTHER Xbox One game announcement from Microsoft that you won't see in the press conference!

12:30 PM ET – 2 PM – XBOX: A NEW GENERATION OF GAMES REVEALED
Live from the Galen Center, Xbox's Don Mattrick and Phil Spencer take the wraps over more than a dozen new game announcements for the Xbox One. See the world premiere of RYSE: SON OF ROME from CryTek, the first live gameplay of FORZA 5, plus many more surprises from Microsoft Studios and third party publishers across this 90 minute showcase.

MS taking a very different approach than usual with one game before and one game after. With more than a dozen new game announcements this should be good. I wonder if that includes some of the ones like Forza and QB.

Dang that list is looking so good already. I thought Thief got cancelled?

Hopefully Microsoft shows up at E3 and all they do is reveal exclusive game after exclusive game and put some of this other stuff about their console to the background where it belongs.

My biggest issue with the Xbox One is the hardware design choice more than anything else. The downgrades in hardware power, choice of eSRAM on a big ass APU, and DDR3 memory really puzzle the hell out of me. It's going to be incredibly gimped compared to the PS4 which means that Microsoft is going to have to pull a Sony this gen and beef up their internal teams to the point where buying an Xbox One is pretty much a requirement in order to get access to some of the industry's best games.

I can deal with DRM, that's never been much of a problem with me as someone buying content 100% digitally. I gotta say it does take some balls to try and effectively shut out the used game/rental market.

But if Microsoft just brings the content at E3, I think that a lot of folks here will forget about everything else.

Im at a loss as to why some people just are not willing to accept that MS CAN have sales on their digital games, and much more so this time compared to last time. I understand some of the rage though, however when I see PC user/gamers come in and complain about something they have no problem supporting on that platform, it makes my head spin a bit.

Yeah it's a bit puzzling listening to some of the PC users get all bent out of shape about this stuff.

I think that long-term, these restrictions could help people like myself who always buy new and always buy digitally (when available).

I think it will easily lead to more sales and lower prices.

Wow MS announcing so many games that it will not even be in the press conference? Most likely it is not a big game, but hopefully it will be a good game either way.

I've been watching this unfold on my breaks at work today. I got home and read many of the other threads about how this goes against everything that we as consumers "deserve".
I feel like I am no longer the target audience for NeoGAF.
Can you buy and sell used games? YES! The only difference is you have to go to an authorized reseller. MS is not charging them any fees for re-licensing or transferring of licenses. It's up to the publisher.
Can you give or sell the game to a friend? Yes! Only now they actually HAVE to be a friend for 30 days.
Can you lend or rent games? No! And this is where I completely understand from a business perspective. I buy a game and over the life of the copy I lend it to 10 friends. The only people it benefits is my friends. The original purchaser, the game maker and the retailer get nothing.
There are some positives. I love the play my library of games on any Xbox I log into. Awesome!
I'm not worried about the 24 hour rule. My internet rarely goes down. I can sync it to my phones hotspot if necessary. Hell, if you have a TIVO, guess what? It checks every day as well. Get over it.
I realize this is only my opinion, but I am entitled to it. I have really no problems with any of these things. If this is the direction these companies need to go to stay viable and make the games I love to play then so be it.
One more thing. PC is worse. Yes, steam doesn't check the internet for most games for up to 30 days. Word of warning. Once MS and Sony institute some of these practices, don't think for a minute, these publishers won't ask Steam to follow suit.

Bottom line, I'm ok with it. It's my opinion. Can't wait to see the games! less than 4 days to go and I'm Hyped!!!!!!!!!

You can rent and lend games, but not at launch they said.

Me too.

People are right in suggesting that the situation on Steam is not exactly the same as Xbox One in the sense that there's the opportunity for competition, but you can't really argue the fact that Steam is partially responsible for an Xbox One platform being possible. Microsoft wouldn't have gone down this path if they didn't consider it a potentially lucrative venture, and Steam (alongside iOS) are obviously the biggest inspirations as far as digital gaming platforms are concerned.

I disagree here. They won't force that because they get money from every Steam sale already.

Morning folks, looks like I missed more meltdowns.

Good on Microsoft for putting their cards on the table. Now we can look forward to the games.

Just three more days till dem megatons start dropping.

I bought a DVD the other day, had some friends over to watch it. Should've asked them for money to send to the movie maker, distributor and retailer.

Can't remember the last time I saw Blur on 360 drop below $79.95 on the Australian XBL GoD store. In roughly the same period (since the game came out) I reckon I would've seen it drop to $5 maybe 7-8 times before it was pulled.
If past history is an indicator of future behaviour (and it almost always is) then that's why people are concerned. MS may well turn the tides and have sales to rival the breadth and depth of Steam's... but I understand why so many are skeptical (myself included).

It is, but as I've said many times, I actually think the PS4 and XO are under powered for a next gen system.

Agreed 100%.

I will ALWAYS be interested in games so I am going to be cheering games from all the devs but I expect even more sour to come.

FYI We will still have the Twitch open http://www.twitch.tv/angrycentaur and probably earlier than last time. Maybe an hour before the preshow for people to start placing gentlemens bets:)

"exploring possibilities" doesn't mean it will come later. Not trying piss on people's parade here. Just saying people shouldn't think it's a certainty to come later.
I still think they will roll their own service.

Watched the madness unfurl today.

Major Nelson and Aaron Greenburg come out and say that a certain 'rumor' on neoGAF is totally false. Can't stop this hate train a'rollin. CBOAT is more credible than the company making the console confirmed...smh

Major Nelson also releases all the info that he was gathering. Not nearly as bad as previously thought...or apparently worse. Depends on who you ask here.

It's not that hard to figure out the policy. I read it and thought, "I'm okay with this. In fact, some of this stuff is actually cool."

I get that people here aren't the same as me, but it's literally out of control in a few of these threads. Literally pulling anything that hasn't been explicitly stated and turning it into the worst possible scenario. So, even though Microsoft said they're working on an exemption from verification for military overseas and a few other things, apparently that's a lie or something.

What can I take out of today from NeoGAF? Everything that Microsoft says, will say and has ever said is a complete lie in order to brainwash us into forgoing our 'consumer rights' because Microsoft is vehemently anti-consumer and don't even compare it to Steam, because it's open platform. Apples to oranges. Blah blah blah

I also learned that all of my opinions are wrong and subject to be hated in certain threads. Shame on me for looking forward to a console.

Also, a lot of casualties today...pour one out for our homies. FordGTguy, your memory lives on...for as long as you are banned, we will never forget.

Gotta find someone willing to take up his mighty hype-train banner.

I saw a 100% serious post where a poster called another "the enemy" because he still wanted to get the XB1

That's some gamespot system wars type shit LOL.

I hope it doesn't get that bad here.

But if it does here's a refresher from the Xbox, PS2 & GC era

Xbox-Xbot
PS-Cows
Nintendo-Sheep

Oh the memories o_O

Saw that post too. I guess we're the enemy here lol.

This. I said it a few posts back. I get the feeling that we are no longer the targeted audience for this forum. It's not about the gamers and our opinions anymore. It's about whether our opinions match what everyone else is saying. No dissention allowed. It's going to get interesting when Sony announces similar features. I'm sure those folks will find a way to say they only did it because it was forced on them. Sony will be the victim.

The fact is times are changing. Jaffe said it best that the only reason everyone is upset is because it didn't start out this way. We will be digital one day very soon and it will be even more divisive. I am actually looking forward to it. I would love to be 100% digital. I love that we can access all of our own library from every console.

Exciting times ahead! At least for me!

I took on the Hype Train last time after the guy logged off, although in this case I don't have the pictures of the blank train and the current filled trains :\

If someone can dig them up though, I'd gladly take over again.

I'm still waiting for my cheque from Microsoft because apparently we're all paid shills.

Same here.

People saying they'll be just as hard on Sony...I just don't buy it.

It's like the stages of grief. Right now they're angry...if Sony comes out, they'll just jump to acceptance. Solemn acceptance.

Sure some really will drop both, but most will just blame Microsoft/publishers for pushing Sony into it, if/when it happens.

When you're the second bearer of bad news, the reaction is always less severe.

I'm really looking forward to not waiting in line at midnight for games I really want, and being able to share my library with the people close to me. I'm always online anyways so I guess I'm what could be called a target consumer xD

That'd be most awesome of you! I'll go back a few pages and see what I can pull up. If I could work photo-editing software, I'd do it myself...but IT training is clogging my mind and I'm unwilling to learn.

Since the reveal, the same posters have lurched from one negative thread to another spewing vitriol on Microsoft. Literally you could see the transition from "Microsoft are cancelling interviews because they are covering up their DRM issues. What a PR disaster!" to "Microsoft have been completely open on DRM issues! What a PR disaster!"

Here I sit through it all thinking the same thing; "Bring on the games." I have been saying this for months, I don't give two shits about DRM, be it on Steam or iOS. If Microsoft produce the goods on Monday then I won't even give this forced drama torama a second thought and I know for a fact my friends are the same. Why should I refuse to go play Halo with my mates just because some random asshat on GAF thinks I'm a betrayer to the cause?

Once all is said and done I think Xbox One needs a thread like this in the Community slums, because engaging in any kind of rational discussion or debate is simply impossible outside it.

Absolutely agree. I have a feeling once the conference is over and there are several games announced that are exclusive and exciting, some of those people will suck it up and change their attitude.
I actually think MS was smart doing it a few days before their big game reveals. Less time to dwell on it before compelling titles sway some of them back.
And let's be realistic. NeoGAF is a small vocal minority of the larger demographic MS is positioning for. While they may lose some initial hardcore sales, they will make up for with people like us.

This reads like fanfic. And just to be clear, CBOAT has been doing this for almost ten years and, iirc, he has never been wrong. CBOAT is more credible because you don't understand what a conflict of interest is for a representative to be truthful.

Again with the idea that this is just neogaf lol. You only have to look on youtube to see this is not a neogaf thing. Check other forums too.

I question how I would've reacted to this news 16 yeas ago, would I be as passionate about this as some are now. I mean when I was growing up I only got like 4 games a year, 2 at Christmas, 1 for my birthday and a random one hear and there. I never really traded I n games until the end of the gen but that was only to clear up space really.

But sitting where I am now 32 working 50+ hrs a week, with disposable income and less time available to game. Maybe I just don't fit the traditional mold of a gamer anymore, and that's why I find the multimedia functions so appealing. After a long day of work I just want all my shit in one place with as littile effort to access it on my part.

People have a right to be mad. While I'm not morally grounded enough to boycott a console for idealistic reasons that don't directly effect me, I do realize that Microsoft is taking the industry in a negative direction. I do think used games have negative impact on the industry, and consider many of the steps Microsoft have taken to be a natural progression of the current course, but a lot of it is still some despicable shit.

Having said that, I do think that GAF and similarly minded hardcore gamers have taken the hatred a bit far. I understand being passionate about something that is an integral part of your life, and I understand the underlying positions that would lead one to boycott the XB1. But not everything needs to be twisted into a negative. Not every thread involving Microsoft's name needs to be dragged through the mud. Not everyone defending their decision to purchase an XB1 is a corporate shill.

I welcome differing opinions on subjects, even if they're at odds with my own, but I draw the line at persistent thread trashing. A lot of people have made it clear that they're going to boycott the XB1. Maybe my thoughts are misguided, but once that commitment is publicly made, I see little reason for them to continue participating in XB1 threads. Threads that are negative towards the XB1 from the very beginning are free game, for example, threads having to do with Microsoft's stance on DRM and used games. But when you've made it clear that you're not going to purchase an XB1 ever, and then proceed to go into an otherwise positive XB1 thread for no other reasons but to shit it up with unrelated rhetoric, well, that's a dick move IMO.

nope. just my opinion. It's cool if you disagree.
Is it? Just having an opinion doesn't make it valid; opinions can be wrong. The problem is not the atmosphere of this forum but the thickness of your skin. If one likes the Xbox brand it doesn't mean that preference must manifest in some unaware or isolated bubble of unadulterated support. It's okay, in fact, healthy to criticize something you deeply appreciate. And a thread is never a bastion of positive consensus, there will always be dissent. That doesn't mean there is a forum-wide cabal.

Again with the idea that this is just neogaf lol. You only have to look on youtube to see this is not a neogaf thing. Check other forums too.

You're absolutely right. I shouldn't just single out NeoGAF. However, most of the prevailing sentiment was spawned from posts here as many of the Youtube folks and members of other forums reference them. It speaks volumes about how instrumental NeoGAF is in helping to shape the opinions of the hardcore community.

It is what it is. I'm not going to say anyone is wrong. We all have our entitled opinions. This one is mine. I have been playing video games since my mother brought home the Sears Atari pong system in 1978. I consider myself hardcore. I have and still own almost every system including that very pong system.

I adapt to the times and enjoy the many games of each generation. It's time to do that once again. I'm happy to do that to enjoy the many new games that will be created.

I did get Black ops1 for $3AUD and Max Payne for $5AUD being a silver member not long ago on Live market place , I would expect them to rival Steam's sales to justify the DRM.

If you look at the Forza 60fps thread, you see people creating their own fanfic from the article posted , and just start making shit up. Then after being proven wrong scurrying away like cockroaches when the light comes on. Discussion is great trolling isn't.

Yeah. I don't know what that was about. I'm not saying there aren't legitimate complaints.

This reads like fanfic. And just to be clear, CBOAT has been doing this for almost ten years and, iirc, he has never been wrong. CBOAT is more credible because you don't understand what a conflict of interest is for a representative to be truthful.

No, I understand what a conflict of interest is for a representative is. I think it's quite judgmental/presumptuous of you to determine my comprehension.

Here are appropriate responses if there is a conflict of interest:

"We do not comment on rumors or speculation."
Or my personal favorite, say nothing at all. It's twitter.

If there is a conflict of interest, it's in the company's best interests to not lie. Short-term gains from 'debunking' a rumor that turns out to be true is detrimental to the image of a company in the long-term. It not only compromises whatever messages you send about the product you lied about, but it has a carry-effect to your other products.

Also, there are 2 specific rumors, interrelated as they are. 1. Yield issues with eSRAM and 2. Because of rumor 1, MSFT is downclocking the GPU to reduce heat and improve yields.

Maybe both are unsubstantiated, maybe 1 was an issue that was dealt with months ago, but the fact remains: there are better options in PR than lying and Microsoft have demonstrated on many occasions their willingness to use said options.

Have you read most of the threads here? It is definitely leaning toward a "forum-wide cabal". BTW i like that term.

I'm not being thick skinned. I was upset about some of the policies at the outset of the release. When I thought it over rationally, I realized that I really don't buy or sell used games very much. I stay connected almost all of the time. I don't lend out or rent games.
So for me I don't really have that much of a problem.
Don't get me wrong, I understand the vitriol toward these policies. I completely agree that for many people this is a major obstacle for them. I want them to be vocal about it.
However, to demean and publicly berate people for defending the policies or saying they are fine with them shouldn't be acceptable. Say you disagree, give some reasons why, debate it. Calling them names shouldn't be an option.
