finally caught up...fuck this.

No more, i'm siding with those white walkers beyond the wall, this whole continent is degenerate and needs to burn.

The white walkers like baby boys though. They're guaranteed to be worse than Joffrey, who only killed one infant and a few other bastard kids.

It certainly results in season 3 creating a narrative halt that was never intended by Martin.
Ideally book 3 could have been adapted into a full 16-episode season that would have aired consecutively with no breaks in between. But that wouldn't have been feasible with production schedules and budgeting.

Was it mentioned anywhere in the show what exactly they do with the infants?
They turn full grown men into wights, that much is known.

You realize that seasons 3 and 4 are both one book, right? And there are going to be 7 books. If there are only 7 seasons, then the final book won't get a season.

Books 4, 5, and the beginning of 6 can be one season at the pace this show travels at.

The show can make their own timeline. It won't follow the books like that.

I'm up too late and too tired to do it myself, but someone needs to make an Arrested Westeros of the scene where Catelyn lifts of up Bolton's sleeve to discover the chainmail with the caption: (Gasps.) You’re a bleeping never-nude!?

GoT is one of the rare shows that get much better after several rewatches. The amount of detail in plot and even attrezzo is staggering, probably unprecedented.

I got my girlfriend to start watching it. So I'm basically watching the current season at the same time as re-watching season one. So many things tie into this current season its crazy. I totally missed it the first time. The stuff that went down in the last crazy episode, totally ties into a season one episode where the main son agreed to marry one of that dudes daughters. So hard not to say anything to my girl, but i do get a slight grin knowing whats to come, and to see the look on her face when it does hahahaha.

-If Jon Snow is Ned's child I'll eat a hat.
-If that was the right thing to do he totally would have. The Lyanna thing is totally different from the current situation. It would have been the same situation if he tried to negotiate for her release instead of going to all out war.
-Starks have zero legitimate claim to a throne. They can only usurp it. Rebel. Eddard Stark the Usurper. Does it sound like him?

- Hum in which thread are we already ? He IS Ned's child as of now, whether the mother is this Willa or lady Ashara
- We don't know for sure, fact is Robert and Ned wouldn't have gone for an all out war if Lyanna was kept as an hostage (which wasn't the case apparently)
- Regarding claim there was ton of interesting posts explaining what "claim" and "legitimity" means here, if all the North say his claim is right then it is. It's something which can still be found today

I'm still pissy they've made such a deal of the direwolves being fearsome, bloodthirsty creatures capable of wrecking scores of soldiers all by themselves, yet so far their biggest on screen accomplishment has been... biting Joffrey's arm. Back in S1. Yeah.
I think Rob's direwolf also killed some scouts in Season 2 before they rooted Jaime's army in the Riverlands.

man they should have handled that Jon Snow scene so much better. he saw the wolfs and just rode away. it´s writing like this that makes me fucking angry.

other than that the episode was pretty good. I am however totally confused, who will take up the fight against the lanisters now...sure there are a few but man I really wanted Rob to have some revenge. Argh, anything can happen here.

At least Gareth from the office died right?

My favourite part of the episode is the build up to the massacre, so chilling. Doors shut - Rains of Castamere - Wolf trapped in his pen - Bolton leaning his arm on the table with that smug look - Cat's reaction. One of those unforgettable moments of television.

Bolton really is the true kingslayer. Robb's second-in-command and he betrays him, at least Jaime did it to prevent WMDs destroying the city (even without this knowledge I didn't see Jaime's kingslaying as that much of a crime - there was greater honour in killing a truly mad, hated, evil king than in sticking to your vows for the sake of duty). Bolton did it for what? Money? How relevant is him marrying a Frey and receiving a massive dowry, my impression from that conversation was that this happened fairly recently - it would provide a cover for Bolton getting paid off by Frey/Tywin. I'd guess Frey heard about Robb breaking the vow, ran to Tywin saying "I'm joining you guys now", Tywin sets up the plan involving paying off Bolton.

I didn't understand Bolton's motivations when Jaime was recaptured, for a guy who's happy to tear the skin off prisoners he seemed awfully nice to Jaime about getting his hand chopped off. It makes sense now, I guess it was his men (including the horn boy) who sacked winterfell, and that Tywin and Joffrey will now proclaim Tyrion lord of Winterfell's ruins (hah).

Only weak part of the episode was the Danerys stuff, it was really camp even before this ludicrous Dario character showed up. It feels like a whole different show .. I like some of the tonal differences between the settings but this is too much, I would have been happy for this season's Danerys stuff to have taken a back seat after episode 4. Did the guyliner man from Yunkai get killed in the slave revolt?

Bolton's been married to a Frey girl for a while though, his bastard was old enough to lead a small contingent of men to re-take Winterfell, can you have a bastard before getting married? lol. Does divoce even exist in Westeros?

Yes? If he was married to a Frey girl than how would that make his son a bastard?

Exactly.

Imagine the show had began when the Mad King still ruled Westoros.

Then her father was killed by the Usurper.

Then we had to sit through seasons of her on the run with Viserys.

Only to have her sold off to a savage like a slave.

Would you be counting the House Targaryen out of the picture? Based on the way you sound now, absolutely.

And yet we have FIVE Stark children to follow.

And as important a character as Dany is, the Stark children are the true heart of the story.

Man, wouldn't it be awesome if they went back and did a prequel series to game of thrones after it's all said and done? Would especially be interesting since there are no books that cover that timeline extensively, but then general plot seems just as epic as the current stuff. Mad King, Robert's Rebellion, Iron Islands revolt.

Some books cover pre-Roberts Rebellion. And G.R.R is releasing a book of history on the subject.

I always imagined that his bastard was born after he married a Frey, but maybe it makes more sense that it happened before, after looking at the wikipedia defintion.

After seeing his Conan interview, I actually agree with his choice of killing people. In a Die Hard movie, we never fear for Bruce's characters. He get scratched, bruised, and tired, but he don't die. Even in The Sorpranos, anyone could seemingly die, but
Tony was going to be around for sure. Though it's speculated that he died at the end.

Thanks dude.

- The thread where we can speculate. Or is speculating not allowed now? Maybe we should change the title into "Episode recaps and reactions only." As I said if Jon is Ned's I'll eat a hat. And I have no idea who these other women are. Have they been on the show?

- What I know from the show is that Lyanna was taken against her will and Robert and Ned went after whatever that Targaryen dude was that took her. She died at some point, but I don't recall them saying when. So what I know from the show is what I said.

- Regarding claim. You take the throne by conquest, rebellion or by succession. Legitimate does not mean anything other than according to the current rules. As Merriam-Webster says:

a : accordant with law or with established legal forms and requirements <a legitimate government>
b : ruling by or based on the strict principle of hereditary right <a legitimate king>

None of the ways the Starks could claim a throne are legitimate. Doesn't mean they weren't possible or practiced. Just that they are illegitimate. And self determination would be a completely ludicrous concept in a medieval society such as GOT's.

Wylla is mentionned by Ned when Robert asked him who is the mother of his bastard, it was after they left Winterfell in order to go back to King's Landing.
As for Ashara she is always mentionned in the seven kingdoms when speaking about the identity of the mother of Jon Snow, not sure when her name is explicitely stated in the series though but I do remember Catelyn knowing this rumor.

Ashara hasn't been mentioned in the show. In fact, the show has never gone deeper into the subject of Jon's mother than that one conversation between Ned and Robert.
Basically, a lot of the speculation is book stuff, not show stuff. So it has no place here.

Bought S1 and S2 on bluray yesterday, and when S3 is over next week I'll just rewatch S1 and S2 again, HA!

The bluerays are fuck-awesome, probably some of the best BDs I own, though I suppose I'm biased because I love the source material and show so much.

The animated narrations of the backstory and history are worth the price of admission alone. My girlfriend watched a few with me and was like "holy shit, the amount of history and lore is like a normal person's lifes work, as interesting as the show itself".

I saw it as he was telling her to look. I love it because its so terrible.

Yes. He's also resting his arm on the table, very close to her side all of a sudden. He's like 'look what I got ere for ya'. Its a brilliant scene.

I'm now Team Roose. Perhaps I should quit alcohol too, as it dulls the senses!

Yeah Bolton definitely wanted her to look.

Remember when he met Jamie 3 or 4 episodes ago? He seemed to enjoy making Jamie think Cersei had been raped and killed by Stannis' men a bit too much.

Dude gets a kick out of seeing people suffer. He wanted to see the look in her eyes when she realised what was up.

^^^ I wonder what other character has shown such a penchant for mindfuckery...

[avatarquote]

I mean, honestly, by now we've all pretty much figured out Craycrayeyes McCockchop is his son. They should stop teasing us and plain tell us (and tell us his name already).
