Am I seeing things or did I see your avatar animate and move?

Yep it's definitely animated. I'm having trouble with gifs, but opening the image in a new tab shows it.

I'm genuinely impressed how he accomplished this. I thought gifs were banned for avatars.

Any word on whether the game includes multiple languages on disc? I'll probably buy the French or German version this week and want to make sure I get English VO and text.

I think it will sell well; it has good marketing, immense critical success, the good name of Naughty Dog behind it, and very little in the way of competition.

An what if it is a monumental achievement?

Half Life 2 surely was. And so was Bioshock. This gen is due for another achievement, and I have very little doubts that Naughty Dog can be the one's that deliver on that.
How was Bioshock a monumental achievement? What did Bioshock do other than deliver a very good story and atmosphere (Something games had already been doing for decades)?

Just being a good game doesn't make something a monumental achievement in the medium. The Last of Us looks like another very good game, but I'm not sure what its "monumental achievement" is. The best I can probably come up with is actually making a good modern survival horror template for other games to work off of.

It did EVERYTHING right.

Incredible haunting atmosphere-check
Incredible Narrative-check
Incredible OST-check
Incredible voice acting-check
Great gameplay-Check
Great level design-check
Great characters-check

I mean i could go down the list. But what made bioshock such an amazing achievement was that it created this world, of rapture, where you just wanted to stay there. Everything about the world and it's atmosphere, it's characters, it's tales, they soaked you in like none other.

It was a universe created like none other. That's why it's such an amazing achievement. That, and the fact that the game hit the nail on the head among almost every aspect game wise (except for the 3/4th. That sucked)

Just got an email from the retailer saying that they have the game in stock. Unfortunately Monday is a holiday so they'll only ship on Tuesday which means I'll have to wait until Wednesday. Damn.

You are still getting the game two days early, or am I missing something?

btw i bought some Sony Pulse Headsets. They were a 100$ at walmart.

Never had gaming headphones, I plopped them on and the games i play now sound so fucking fantastic. =)

Anyway, can anyone comment on the quality of the one's I bought? Are they considered good/bad/meh?

Preordered my copy today. The bonus in my store is a free copy of Uncharted 2, which I sold when I got U3 - foolish move I know. Can't wait :)

It is still coming after E3. Hard to really gauge it, but it's a weird time to launch.

Well it can work both ways, the game might get more hyped with sony showing reviews and hyping it up.

But since for last month or so, their has been lot of hype, with great reviews and the zombie theme added it might do great.

People asked Naughty Dog at the AmA about the clunky controls and especially the aiming and i've seen even reviews cried about it.

ND said they think the controls and the aiming are very realistic, you have to remember Joel is just some guy with a gun... not a military expert or some shit like that, so of course you can't run around and headshot everyone.

That triangular balance must be incredibly difficult to find

Realism - Are you trying to make it feel real? You can't have Joel sliding around pulling off easy headshots like Sam Gideon on a sugar high
Fun - Speaks for itself, nobody will play it if its not enjoyable enough
Dissonance - It has to feel right for the character. Is he a novice? An expert? Somewhere in between? Learning all the time?

Taking that into consideration, it needs to be fast regarding aiming yet relatively clunky interms of movement/hand action, cursor deceleration and recoil, with as little auto-aim as can be compensated for with the controller-use. I hope they hit the balance.

I was fine with the controls in Uncharted though, so what do I know? :P

As long it doesn't have the huge deadzone and the increase in input lag UC3 had compared to 2, I'm good.

I'm actually tempted to play 3 before TLOU releases.

I might play UC2. It's been too long since i've played it.
or i'm getting drunk tonight, i don't know.

Good morning everyone!

Where's the OT?
Where's my game?

How does the game end? Oh look it's already on youtube.
Yeah...Sony...I'm angry. Really angry now. :/

This whole thing is a mess to be quite honest.

Street date has been broken..lots of people have already gotten copies...spoilers are floating around in almost every comment section/troll pm's.

For some reason the OT creator said that the TLOU OT isn't going up until AFTER e3...and did I mention there's still a whole week left for all of us to potentially get spoiled?

:/

I wonder if they're thinking they should have released it yesterday. The discs were printed ages ago, and its given a massive window for people to spoil it, along with a huge oppurtunity for knobends to bait people into it with E3 threads and comment sections. I'm petrified. Honestly. Scared shitless that it'll be ruined by someone who makes a mistake with their spoiler tags, or someone committing account suicide

They said he was joking about the OT being delayed that long. That they 'wanted to surprise us'.

Has worked brilliantly, as you see.

OMG THE INTRO!

THIS GAME.......HOLY SHIT!

I actually have no idea what this intro could be that's blowing everyone away. I mean, I have an idea judging from the nature of the story, but I'm not sure how it can be executed so well to have people saying it's better than the intro to GOW3 or Bioshock. Guess I'll have to wait and see

In all honesty I frankly do not care if the OT will be up tonight or next week.

I am seriously debating on just skipping GAF for a week because the whole E3 got me worried as well. There is no doubt in my mind that there is going to be some idiot who will spoil TLoU for everyone.

You will indeed have to wait and see ;)

I hope your right, but PS3 exclusives aren't known for their big numbers on release day. They are better known for their overall sales. I do want to see this game do well, it looks great.

Yep. I'll read the OP, and get the gaming news from football-gaf, only watching the videos I'm interested in. I can bookmark and catch up with the E3 threads afterwards. This has been my most anticipated piece of entertainment of my life since it was announced, I will go to any and all realistic lengths to avoid being spoiled.

Pro tip: if you watch E3 live next week on twitch make sure you hide the fucking chat.

they talk more about combat, and there general feelings about what they experienced without really going into detail. Nothing specific about the narrative or any of the plot details.

Hmm

Another one to add to the bookmarks :P

I hope all the Giantbomb guys play it, don't want itheir discussion of it to end up just being Patrik reiterating his review points to the crew

Gonna definitely follow collins tip:

Play in a dark room, wear some of your best available head phones, try to read all the diaries/collect all the gaming collectables, and never rush.

2 things

What's better for audio, surround sound or headphones? Bear in mind that to play with the surround sound, I'd have to play it in the light, which is not preferable.

Is there an easy way to find out if my headphones are splitting audio properly for the surround, and if the audio quality is sufficient? They're pretty cheap.

Nothing beats a proper set of surround sound but unless you can not crank up the volume or have a lousy set, go with headphones.
