Hahaha, yes, I barely used the ignore function a few months ago, except for one or two really annoying people. Then I started adding the trolls, or those who are too aggressive and not open to discussion, but only after several of those messages and no constructive ones. But now I sometimes add people for a single message if I find it too dumb. :P
It sure helps to make reading certain threas more bearable.

Oh yeah, I'm exactly the same :D For what it's worth, I barely ever used the feature on other forums, but here on GAF it became a necessity. I'm just afraid that I might hit some limit soon.

We should be happy for once that games journalism is actually standing up for us once.

Eh... I don't want to derail this thread train by explaining in detail what I believe is wrong with that statement (EDIT: I see Alx already did a good job on that), but I will say that I wasn't talking about just gaming outlets, and again, I believe the bile is misdirected for the most part.

Journalism is meant for information. Its purpose isn't expressing a sentiment, or protecting anyone. There are editorials for that. If game journalism wants to be taken seriously, they should start by following the rules of their profession.
In "real" journalism, you don't see headlines about Syria like "Assad is a tyrant and should be taken down !", or on economy "New government measures will take down the country". Newspapers that do are easily classified as a rag, or piece of propaganda.

To get back to my previous example, the WSJ blog shows it can be done. (there may be some slighly selective bolding, but I'll overlook that) Only facts that are explained and commented, and letting the reader make his own opinion based on those.
You seemed to be confused about journalism, like many. You don't seem to understand the difference between being neutral and being objective. Journalism is NOT about being neutral and simply being a means of conveying information (though that is sometimes applicable). The conveying of information is inherently value-laden, i.e. the notion that numbers speak for themselves and thus all one would need to do is state information for it to be understood is false. This is different from sensationalist headlines, mind you. And, again, in this case the information is meant for an audience of public consumers. MSFT's policies are without question anti-consumer, they are the result of publisher pressure. If you start with the premise that the policies are anti-consumer, and the written articles are meant for those same consumers, then headlines like the pieces from Time/Polygon are not rag or propaganda. WSJ has a view pro-corporate/business/right-leaning. That article isn't really a meaningful, in-depth analysis on the intricate effects on gamers. It's just a statement on the now, new reality of the Xbox brand -- the whole "service" line. Yet even that makes a value statement on the new policies. Don't you find it odd the only piece you thought reasonable is the one that you most agree with? There was nothing wrong with the other two pieces today.
Would be pretty interesting if the Mad Max game was exclusive to the One. Or perhaps there's that steampunk game they were talking about?
Don't know about the steampunk thing. Mad Max would not be exclusive because of WB and the movie. Just like licensed sports titles aren't really allowed to be exclusives.

Who should the bile be directed towards?

Misdirected? You don't think MS are responsible for their own policies? Who should the anti-consumer decisions be accounted to?

Who should the bile be directed towards?

Companies/services/platforms (and even publishers, when it comes to online DRM) who introduced those practices way before Xbox One. But the bigger problem is misunderstanding of long term gains for the whole industry - and by industry I mean everyone, not just consumers. As I already said in another thread, I have nothing against putting consumer rights ahead of everything else, even if I don't necessarily share that sentiment, but pursuing those, essentially selfish and self-centered, interests while hiding behind some alleged love for the medium and the industry... I find that very hypocritical, and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

What long-term gains, specifically?

So, just over 48hrs left.

What game does everyone think will open the conference? Quantum Break? I'm guessing Forza 5 as it's their graphical showcase title, but the snippets of gameplay from QB looked pretty great too.

Or perhaps they'll open with something else entirely?

We have gameplay from QB?

Off the top of my head, lower prices, a more dynamic marketplace, and elimination of physical media clutter for consumers (also general progress of the medium by ways of making broadband connectivity and natural interfaces the lowest common denominator; it may also have indirect positive effects on broadband penetration and the general network infrastructure), more freedom for platform holders (not being held hostages by retailers anymore), more money coming back to publishers and developers, i.e. people who actually make all the stuff we love to play.

But again, this is not really a thread for discussing these issues in detail, so I apologize for the derail. Let's get back on the train.

Sure. This can be discussed elsewhere, but I would just note before ending that many, including myself, would refute the lower prices, dynamic marketplace, and retailer power arguments. As well as more money for publishers (e.g. liquidity for iterative titles).

I don't need to agree with it, because there is nothing to disagree with : it is only explained facts. Yes, the MS system is turning gaming into a service, and that comes with consequences on ownership and other things. That's precisely what makes many people complain everywhere.
The WSJ isn't painting it as a good or a bad things (although you can feel that the author may not be very enthusiastic), only explaining how it works and what are the consequences. That is information, not opinion. Of course it is only a short article, and not an in-depth analysis. But I wouldn't mind a bigger article either, as long as it's level-headed and not full of drama.

*edit : I added a comment on the WSJ thread so that we can discuss it there rather than here.

The boat? Whatever that was, I'm not sure I would it "gameplay."

Naw, that looked like CG for sure, it was the parts afterwards.

Phantom dust 2, believe.

jk, I wish.

maybe they'll start off with a rare game....aahhhh so close can't wait.

Hey man, don't joke about such things. PD2 announcement is heart attack territory.

Hmm, would actually be pretty interesting if they opened with a RARE title. I assumed they'd open with a graphical showcase but RARE are pretty amazing when it comes to graphically stunning titles...

I mean their earlier titles on 360 still stand as some of the best visually on the console.

Then feel free to do it in a related thread (or start a new one) and send me the link. We can continue the discussion there.

I will defend physical copies until my last breath.

I get them always days (sometimes weeks) before the official release :P

I remember when Alan Wake came out, rel. was on 14th may or something and I got my copy on 2nd or 3rd May.

Glorious times of physical copies!

edit: also a virtual copy can't give me THIS:

(yes the wall behind looks ugly I know)

They have to have the SP CoD Ghosts demo during the conference right? Or will it be shown during the GT Sunday show? They'd be wise to get that out of the way up front.

Anyway I think they might repeat what they did at E3 09 (I think?) where they did all the multiplat demos and harware/UI announcements first. "Everything you see from now on will be exclusive to the XB1"

It would be a good way to open E3 with a showstopper.

Haven't they shown only CoD demos first at the past E3's?

I remember a Black Ops demo, MW3 and Black Ops 2 demo shown at microsoft conference

I wouldn't be surprised if Ghosts made an appearance, but will it open the conference? I don't know, doesn't see sensible to open the conference with a third party title.

You need to show off the power of your new console and a third party title wouldn't necessarily be able to do that.

But maybe thats the only power that Xbox One can handle? xD

I believe it will begin with a live demo of Forza 5.

I can't remember ever seeing an E3 conference start with a racing game. It will probably start with a known game, but both Ryse and (especially) Quantum Break are more likely candidates, in my opinion. Or maybe it won't start with a game at all.

My thoughts. Besides, what it ends with is more important.

Don't underestimate the poower of THE CLOUD!

And Dan has gotten himself in good shape so he can pedal bike the Xbox One to give it some more power due to the down clock to .000000001 Flops.

I don't care about any graphical advantages of the PS4.

All I want is BF4 at max settings with 1080p and 60fps (but I guess it will be 30 only)

Through the magic of Kinect all you gameing dreams can be met..

"xbox more frames per second"

*accessing secret cloud flavoured sauce*

BF4 now at 4k 120FPS

They are going to need the greatest e3 showing in the history of this business to turn this around now. It's going to take a lot of shiny things to distract from the complete shambles of reveal to the blundering drm/online check ups confirmation.

I really think this is only true for the hardcore gamer.

Well, I'll buy the system with the better games. And I will be a launch buyer if there are at least three must haves at launch. It's looking good for a X1 for me.

Sonys Line-Up right now isn't that convincing for me.

The 17-minute Battlefield 4 singleplayer demo showcase ran on ultra high-end PC hardware, developer DICE recently revealed. The PC featured a quad-core Intel i7 CPU and a Radeon HD 7990 graphics card — the most powerful PC graphics card in the world.
Now we got some more details about the PC setup, and a photo as well. The PC didn’t use one, but two Radeon HD 7990 cards, for a total of 4 GPU and a massive 12 GB of GDDR5 graphics RAM. That’s right, a 12 GB frame buffer.
DICE wanted to make sure the demo ran as smooth as possible, and it sure did. The demo was rendered internally at 3K resolution (about 3200 x 2000 pixels) and downscaled to 1080p. It also ran at a constant 60 frames per second. Be sure to also check out the Battlefield 4 60 fps video.

Lets say they optimize it and render it at 1080p. I feel like the PS4 would still struggle keeping it at 60fps locked 1080p let alone the Xbox one.

We dont know any lineup at this point, whats confirmed launch? froza 5 and kz?.

Im not sure thats true, mainstream press are already picking up and running with the online only/drm madness.

But does the average person really care? I know I don't and when I see people on here plotting to hand out leaflets, make fake reserves, use civil disobedience and bother people waiting in line, I can't help but think internet message board crowd is a bit detached from the average consumer.

You think? lol

I think the average consumer couldn't care less about any of this, and if they're aware of the online requirements and can't meet them they'll get something else without the uproar.

Wut ? I knew about the leaflets, but not the bolded part. This place is really turning crazy.

Yeah, well Forza is a must have for me. I hope QB will release early 2014. And I hope that at least two more games for the X1 will impress me. TitanFall is also nice to have but also a 2014 release...

For the PS4 Knack is the only exclusive title I really want to play. Hope Deep Down won't be a PS4 exclusive...

We have to wait and see to see if they do.

what makes you think that?

Did you not see the specs DICE used to run that demo? Its in my previous post.

"this place"......a couple of posters do not represent the thousands on GAF.

Let's not get stupid.

There was like ten people out of ten of thousands that attempted to start that dumb stuff. Those people are joke to everyone on NeoGAF, including those who are very much against XbOne, heh.

How was it when the 360 came out...did cross platform games still looked better on PC?

anyways Idc if BF4 doesnt run on max...all i want to see is a huge difference between BF3 360 and BF4 Xbox One.....and 64 player mode!
