Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

The way I would like Final Smashes to work is something a little like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, by increasing the crowd mechanics. You know how people cheer occasionally in Brawl and Melee or chant your name when you make a comeback and so on? Well, I'd like to see the Smash Meter fill for "stylish" moves or combos that impress the crowd, with quite a strong decay - but have "stale moves" removed as a result. That way it creates some risk/reward - pull of a complex chain of risky moves and you get to destroy your opponent with some crazy finisher. Alternatively, you can play it safe but then getting the final ring-out becomes harder.

Smash Balls and the Dragoon are great, they just need to be far less common. I was on a match with a friend the other day, and the Smash Ball appeared 6 times in the five minute match. That's what makes it a bit overkill

Why not Smash Meters instead of Smash Balls?

They wouldn't really be the same thing at all. I think they should keep Smash Balls AND add Smash Meters. The race for the Smash Ball might not be liked by everyone, but you can always turn it off anyway, and a Smash Meter wouldn't replace that aspect at all, even though it'd keep the Final Smashes in the game.

If they did add a separate meter based super, then they could make all Final Smashes become full screen attacks or transformations, while all Super Smashes would be one target attacks, which can only get more than one character if they stay close, like Link's current Final Smash.

Wasn't there a setting where you could choose how often certain items would appear, or was it just turning items on/off and how often all items would appear?

....wonder if they could work in the former idea in.

You could set how often items appear, and you could set if an item can appear or not, but you cannot individually set appearance probability for items

I really hope the new characters in Smash Bros trailer aren't the most wanted characters or easy to guess ones.

I mean if the trailer shows Daisy, Ridley, Palutena, Mewtwo and Pac-Man, ok, great, but it's not really fun.

I'd prefer fan wanted characters but more surprising ones like Shulk, Layton, Golden Sun rep, obscure old characters, idk but I want my jaw to drop.

I'm still in the #NoPalutenaNoRidleyNoDaisyNoWaluigiInMySmashBros team.

They really just needed to tweak the broken ones like the freakin LANDMASTER which was an instant kill on smaller stages basically.

I hope obscure IP's get a shoutout regardless of region.

Even if it's just as a trophy. Reginleiv for example. Or old IP's like Mach Rider and Murasama Castle.

Smash doesn't allow more then one person at a time to have a final smash so meters wouldn't work. One example why multiple final smashes at once wouldn't work, Captain Falcon calling in his car to hit Giga Bowser. Smash ball is fine.

No No

You know what they should tweak olimar's

along with being from the last time I checked the best character in the game , that isnt meta knight.

His super always hits you , you cant dodge it , I have dodged a land master, you cannot dodge that, he flies up, if you are near him he puts you in a sink hole and when he flies up his plants do an ass load of damage and then he flies down and if he is near you , you are essentially dead.

Lol, this is just a purposeful limitation the team put in the game. It doesn't mean meters aren't possible at all.

The way they coded Final Smashes in Brawl... well, the Final Smashes each have their own file for each character. So, when Mario does his Final Smash, it calls his Final Smash file. There's a few exceptions to this rule, however, and that lies in Fox/Falco. Fox and Falco both have the same FS completely. The devs were so lazy that they literally just have the game call Fox's Final Smash when you use Falco's. Bowser's Final Smash, Giga Bowser, is completely different from that. Not only is it a completely different character, instead of it being treated how you think it would in your mind, Giga Bowser is actually just another character in the game. He has his own character file and everything; if they wanted to they could have easily made him playable from the CSS. Same with Warioman.

But yeah, probably the reason why it's limited in Brawl is because of the way they coded it and maybe (just an assumption) framerate drops with tons of Final Smashes going on at once. They can definitely have more than one Final Smash at a time in a match in the next game... assuming they don't make them the same way they did in Brawl. And thus meters would certainly be possible.

HOWEVER, I really doubt Sakurai will go that way because he doesn't want to "copy", he wants to make things different. He wants to give the fighting game elements he adds Smash flavor, and the Smash Ball was a way to make it Smash flavored. Unfortunately, it was terribly executed IMO.

If nothing else, all the hype for Smash 4 inspired me to drag my Brawl disc out of storage and finish clearing all the single-player modes with all characters.

I wonder what the balance of characters from new IP released since Brawl will be in the new game.

Yes.

Who is this Jiggy37 guy

Jiggy37 basically made statistics about every in the dojo thread i.e. number of idiotic suggestions made by BGBW.

I forgot about Layton

Professor Layton and Luke tag team characters, just like ice climbers and diddy and dixie kong are gonna be D:

do it Sakurai, all 3 kongs fighting King K Rool in the trailer :D

I don't like the Smash Meter idea, but i don't like Smash Balls either. More of a no items final destination guy :P

I also don't like tag characters, Ice Climbers should be the only ones allowed >:(

Not Funky kong playable and cranky kong as hypnotized boss.

What in the world.

So, on the subject of the special titles players win after fights in both the original Smash Bros. and Melee, anyone else hoping that they make a return? I'm talking about after each fight, how each character would have a score dictated by different things they did in the fight, like if you kept an opponent in the air for a long time, you might receive the title "Juggler" with a score next to it. I'm really hoping these return. I never really paid attention to them, but I've been playing classic Smash recently and it's a fun way to see who did what within the fight.

Keep meters out. Stick with smash balls since fast hitters, spammers will likely be the only ones to benefit from them.

What if there were a mode in which each player chooses three characters, one life per character? Let's say if your first character is knocked out, you come back as the second character you chose. It could be a cool little experiment that exists just as an optional mode.
This is probably a terrible idea.

I missed those in Brawl so much. I would hate getting Butterfingers in Melee.

I wouldn't oppose the idea of taking move sets and applying them to Miis. Who doesn't wanna see Reggie Falcon Paunch?

I'm hoping for the same amount of newcomers shown in the trailer as in the one for Brawl. First time that was shown we got ZSS, Wario, Pit, Metaknight, and Snake along with basic confirmations of Samus, Mario, Pikachu, Kirby, and Link.

I'm more interested in seeing new stages than characters, honestly. I wanna see the Rosalina's Observatory, Skyloft, The Space Pirate Airship, etc in HD.

Kyo confirmed for smash.

They are working with people very experienced at making fighting games. If they do use a meter system, I think it will turn out fine.

Indeed. Among them are the Gundam Vs. crew.

I would imagine that something similar to Gundam's "Awakening" system could also work with Smash. In most cases, "Awakenings" are basically transformations/power-up states, from which you have basically a 10-20 second duration to either whup some ass with some serious buffs and/or unleash a powerful EX Attack (which automatically ends the Awakening state).

Hey, if it works well within the context of another "arena fighter"? Why not, I say. Smash Balls would just be a means to give a player a "free Awakening", in this case.
