If this turns out to be true, hopefully Sony launches the PS4 for something like $349.

Yeah haha, but there are other reasons to be excited. If they stay with their plans, it will be fully open world, you can travel with cars, ride an airship, the music is made by Yoko Shimomura(her music is amazing), it's not Toriyama directing it (this is the guy who made FF13 which was not well recieved) etc

It looked good then, but if it gets re revealed as a PS4 game, then it's gonna look epic. People are excited for that possibility and also the fact that it will FINALLY be released haha. E3 is where it all finally happens.

I'm curious about the ROI for the game as I said in my other post though, like 7 years is a LONG time. Surely they'd need to move at least 5 million just for break even? Pretty ambitious sounding game.

Well, iirc, they didn't start fully on development until a few years after that initial reveal, and then they got sidetracked after XIV flopped.

Supposedly, the game only went into full development in 2010 or so. Before then it was a lot of preproduction work. Probably not as expensive as we think it is, but also not super cheap either.

The memory partition of the PS4 seems to align with that of the One : 5 GB for gaming and 3 for OS related tasks...
A couple of tweets by Jonathan Blow strongly suggest that. Let's hope they free up some more of those resources in the near futur. :)

I'm sure that Cerny said somewhere that the full 8GB were available for developers. When OS programs are used, then some RAM is used for that, but aside from that, all for developers.

I don't think the 3gb thing is the end of the world :/ I mean they did a hellllllllll of a lot with 512mb on the last 2 consoles. 5gb is heaps and 3gb for the OS means both of them can do some pretty cool stuff in the background.

The PS4 for a start needs to 'live encode' what you're doing into a video stream for the whole sharing thing, that's GOT to chew some major resources surely?

Yeah they've had to take a lot of breaks. It's not really in development hell, I fully trust the team making it. They have simply been distracted, just bad management from Square Enix really.

But yes you really have to wonder what the ROI is, if they sell really well then it might be OK, who knows. I think just releasing it will help the future of final Fantasy, FFXIII has left a bad taste in some fans.

The OS would always be running, though. It'll always be capturing your gameplay and keeping you connected to your friends list and whatnot.

I remember Cerny saying that they were using 8GB GDDR5 and that it would be a no-limits type solution for developers, but I don't remember him saying that developers would actually get to use 8 GB of memory.
..and I've watched the 2/20 reveal three times, haha.
