Isn't the 3rd party thing a bit pointless if Sony could simply confirm the titles themselves right after they are announced?

Some people just watch trailers and read headlines.

Also, it could generate positive interest in the XBoxOne in light of all the recent criticism.

I don't really see why MS is blocking PS4 announcements. When Sony did it back during the PS3 launch it just turned into a running joke and really didn't accomplish anything.

Interestingly, another GAFer recently said Microsoft was doing that as a direct result of the backlash at the Bone reveal - he said they were pretty much scrambling. CBOAT appears to confirm it.

Welp.

That sucsk.

PS4 must have some kind of similar online 'registration' period, though I can't assume it'll be as bad as MS', since apparently, once you have the game, you can 'be offline, period'.

But we'll have to wait and see what they say at the conference.

Thanks, CBOAT. It's never dull with you around.

Thanks Cboat.

So it's finally sinking in that we're going to see Mirror's Edge 2 tomorrow. I can't believe it, so damn curious! Shame about the potential negativity surrounding it (exclusive? Kinect? dumbed down?), but this is gonna be exciting anyway.

MS is like the new kid who gets popular too fast and their ego explodes. Do they even go here?

I never got to finish Mirror's Edge because my hard drive died and I lost the activation code and fuck EA blah blah, but I really should pick it up on PSN before playing the second one.

Also confirmation of the paying for no mentions thing. Ick. To whoever does it.

Show what you have and build up your platform rather than trying to disinform people about the opposition, please?

Computer, initiate translate software; library 104216truthfactpl.dll

  • Microsoft is paying publishers to only talk about the Xbox One version of their games at E3. Unless the game specifically says "Exclusive to Xbox One," assume that it will also be on PS4.
  • Stage 1 of the DRM reveal was last Thursday. The next in-depth discussion (Stage 2) of the DRM will be at Gamescom. There is no strategy for rentals, and currently no hard plans to support rentals. Executives want to keep quiet about this aspect, because there's no messaging from PR about it.
  • The "power of the cloud" is first and foremost, DRM. It was designed that way from Day 1. Plus, this DRM was Microsoft's idea; they approached third-parties with this plan, not the other way around. EA & Ubi-soft were the plan's biggest supporters, Activision-Blizzard not as much.
  • The DRM plan is worse than what we know now. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting confirmation on some of the finer details from my sources, since their jobs are on the line.
  • Mirror's Edge 2 will be at Microsoft's conference.
  • A Prince of Persia ("regurgitate" = Remake? Reboot?) will also be at Microsoft's conference.
  • Secret Phil Spencer game; a collaboration with wargaming (World of Tanks?)
  • The XBox Live paywall is firmly in place on the One. No Free2Play games without a subscription.
  • Dead Rising 3, and some exclusive DLC for another Capcpom title.
  • Online gaming on the PS4 will NOT require a subscription (not confirmed).
  • Speaking of Sony, it's been extremely tough getting any information about their DRM strategy.

Regrettably, I must leave the site for a period of time, but before I go, some parting words:

1. NeoGAF is a fine website, and all should recognize this fact.
2. And to my detractors, while we currently have our differences, you will soon see that what I am saying is true.
3. Please do not be too hard on Major Nelson, as the man has a job to do
4. On my honor as a gentleman, I give you my word that what I have said so far is true.

And thus, ladies and gentlemen, I bid you farewell.

In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have gotten the translation software with Professor Layton and C-3PO on the cover.

Stay careful out there, Buttocks, and thank you. Till we hear from you again, farewell.

This is like the greatest OP I have ever read. I dont even care about information provided. The way its written, its timing, the principal players.... its soooo goddamn perfect. :D

I DEMAND ALL LEAKS TO BE STATED LIKE THIS FOREVER

Placed in front of my eyes,
considering otherwise,
none of this is a surprise.

Does that rhyme? I also petition for all future leaks to rhyme.

X1's DRM strategy is an open love letter to publishers. Third parties can't ditch Sony yet, not a single next-gen console has been sold, but the pressure will be on Sony to outsell MS or closely match them in sales - providing Sony goes DRM free. If EA could sell all their games exclusively on a tightly controlled DRM enforced platform they would.

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, which know doubt I will, I fee like buying another WiiU and 2 PS4's with a boat load of DRM free games. This feels like a battle for the very nature of our beloved industry.

Microsoft is disgusting. Damn fucking dick moves by them.

F2P behind paywall.
Paying devs to spread false info and only have Xbone versions on floor(probably to hide how much better they look)
DRM worse than before.
No rental plans in place(not surprised by this, I said in the redbox thread I doubt rental chains would ever be able to rent games.)
DRM was Microsoft's idea.

Fuck this company.

P.S. Al Snow was a wrestler who's catch phrase was basically asking if everyone wanted head and he carried a mannequin head around with him. So I take it to mean that Major Nelson's job is just to give everyone head.

.

SolidsnakeX made an interesting observation in the PS Conf thread:

Just to throw this out there, it was famousmortimer that first threw out the idea that MS was trying to pay third party devs to not talk about the PS4 versions of their game. You know what he also said? That at last check Sony had backed off from using DRM.

Praise be unto CBOAT but this augurs ill for the Xbone. The DRM shitstorm is only just beginning. And I fucking knew MS came up with it.

Xbone #clusterfuktotal

Yeah, but I'm sure those same parties then went to Sony and were like "This is Microsoft's offer - what's yours?" So I'm sure they're still able to pressure Sony.

But the fact that Sony not getting anything and even denied exposure to several multiplatform titles suggest that they probably didn't offer anything to 3rd parties.
