Some are being really optimistic admittedly, or that's the impression I get. I'm being cautiously optimistic; I suspect at worst it's going to still be the more appealing Digital platform than the X1, even if retail games are fucked up.

At the worst, at least Sony appears to be taking a model closer to Steam than X1 is regarding it's digital distribution model.

CBOAT is truth. CBOAT is love.

I have to go ly dow; now and make sure I'm fully rested so that I can fully enjoy tomorrow's (er, today's technically (EST)) pressers. I desperately need to get popcorn for this.

oh shit.

now to translate

Appreciate you doing the translation for everyone. This one stood out to me more than the others.

3. Cloud power was designed as DRM. Period. DRM was Microsoft's idea. EA and Ubisoft are supporters, Activision slightly less so.

I kept meaning to bring this up in other threads but then some goofy post would catch my attention and I would end up responding to that post instead of what I meant to talk about.

For all the concerns we may think publishers have about used game sales, dont forget that every used game sale is a loss for MS. The console owners get roughly $10 as a licensing fee for every game sold by 3rd parties for their system. And of course if it's a first party game like Halo then MS still charges the normal price so in that situation they are making publisher profit + the $10. It's not very surprising that they would be most against used game sales.

I think MS should get booed at their conference, this is disgusting, paying publishers or developers to keep quiet about the game being multiplatform is devilish.

Well then you should be upset and equally appalled at all 3 console makers because they all do it, have done it, and will do it again.

What's the point in cboat typing like a drunk so that his posts aren't picked up when someone else just makes threads about his revelations using perfectly-typed English? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Stylometry. Industry uses it.

Isn't COD: Ghosts confirmed to be an Xbox One timed exclusive? That could have a big impact, but hopefully not a lasting one.

No. All future Call of Duty franchise DLC is a timed exclusive for Xbox One this generation though.

I'm just imagining ways DRM could get even worse. It's crazy.

Devs claiming "cloud" features to justify always-on, then MS using the same features to justify requiring a gold sub for single-player games?

So, i guess XB1 will get a huge slamming in Amazon Reviews like heavy drm games in the past got (Diablo 3,Sim City and others). Especially from people buying the XB1 not knowing about 24 hours and used sales etc.

Each person has an unique writing style By using gibberish, he hides his own. You can trace someone by there writing style if they can't vary it which is a rare gift.

Just think, Adam Orth might have really saved MS. By many accounts the 'always online' furor shocked MS and forced them into this last minute every 24 hours compromise. If not for Orth and his twittering I wonder if MS continues as they (allegedly) intended with their current DRM BUT married to a strict always online plan.

Well remember Sessler said nobody actually applauded at the Xbone unveiling, it was actually MS employees in the back.

Hopefully, they're at least silent again.

I don't think silent is enough, we are talking about consumer rights, keeping silent will only make things worse for everybody, when will you say enough is enough? how much abuse can consumers take before taking action?

XBone DRM is worse? Wow.

I wonder what Sony will do. Hopefully they stick to the DRM they have right now on PS3 since it's not too bad, but I get the feeling publishers will at least push for a system wide implementation of their Online Pass for used games.

Don't worry. MS will sneak in some of their own employees in the back to cheer for this nonsense, just like they did at the reveal.

Maybe the reason Sony is being so tight lipped on the whole thing is because they're making a surprise announcement/partnership with Valve!

Ok, so maybe that's a stretch.

Sony just straight up bought exclusivity in the past actually, and it wouldn't surprise me too much if Nintendo was doing that recently with the MH exclusivity they seem to have now (though that can just be from them having a phobia of hardware significantly more powerful than the PS2.)

Ironically, despite the fact full exclusivity is worse in the sense it's actually restricting games from showing up elsewhere instead of just pretending they're exclusive (or giving exclusive DRM) Microsoft's style annoys me more. Probably because full on exclusivity means tailoring to a system's strengths, or even being funded by the platform holder (Bayonetta 2 anyone?) whereas this just feels like slimy dishonesty.

If DRM was MS idea from the get go, why do people think Sony will automatically have it? Its not like the publishes pushed this on MS. Yea some might SUPPORT it, but it doesnt mean they wont release games without it on another platform.

The thinking before tonight was that MS was pushing DRM due primarily to pressure from 3rd parties. If that was the case, common sense says that Sony was getting the same pressure as well, so clearly Sony would follow MS and placate 3rd parties by instituting similar DRM schemes. Of course, we find out tonight that wasn't the case at all, and this new DRM push originated and is driven by MS. There was no 3rd party pressure to institute these draconian DRM schemes. Thus, the notion that Sony must follow MS into DRM hell lest they those 3rd party support is severely weakened.

Bayonetta 2 was not moneyhatted. It was specifically contracted by Nintendo. No one and I mean no other publisher wanted to fund the creation of the game.

So, are ME2 and DR3 exclusive?, only DR3?, none of both?

This thread is awesome!

Doesn't matter. Mirror's Edge 2 will 'bomb' regardless of any exclusivity deal and never see a third iteration because the franchise is a 1-3 million unit game tops. But EA management will demand some asinine goal like 5+ million to green light a sequel.

biggest statement the people at e3could do is... walk out of Ms's conference tomorrow and not cover it, but that is wishful thinking.

Is CBOAT Phil Harrison????

I just don't know what MS is thinking by paying for timed announcement exclusivity (lol). It's not like those games are launching in a week and they can pull a fast one over the public. Shit is going to leak out to the press within hours of their announcement. Everyone will know what games are multiplat.

It's technically paying to have Bayonetta 2... it's just that they payout isn't going directly to a company's warchest, it's actually getting the game made. It'd be ideally the reason games become exclusive, a hardware holder offers to save it from development hell rather than going "hey that's a pretty big franchise you have, how about you cut out the others and stick with us?" as the case was with Tomb Raider.

... Though given the Saturn's sorry state maybe that just happened by default.

I just don't get why people keep talking about Mirror's Edge 2 and Dead rising 3. The most hilarious part of all this is the comment about F2P games being behind a paywall XDD. And the DRM part...just wow

Rigt now there is no game in the world I'd buy this console.

Yeah hiding the games behind a curtain isn't going to fool anyone its not like the clueless public is allowed into E3 or follows it for that matter. World gets smaller and smaller everyday with the internet MS thinking they can sink PS4 with smoke and mirrors shows just how out of touch they are.

So, in summary, there's still room for sony's presser to be a complete disaster. Hoping for the best, but starting to prepare for the worst.

Good points all, I'm a bit nervous about what Sony has to say or not say. Not show - I'm sure they'll have some great games on hand - but who knows what their plans are. Honestly DRM/no rentals/crippling resale etc has no impact on me, and I've long felt GameStop was a pretty scummy company, but I completely understand the reaction of others to this anti-consumer shit.

Aren't you kinda of tired of doing this? You know full well that all three have been ridiculed when they've engaged in similar practices.
