Is the Evangelion manga any good? I need something EVA related that isn't rewatching 3.33 to distract me until Final comes out.

The Final Chapter.

I have all the Chapters. But it's language is Chinese..

That picture suggests it ends up somewhere else together, and that it's happy. I can't have that...

Yeah. It's a "happy" ending.
Shinji leaves his aunt and uncle and moves to Tokyo to go to school and find his hope for the future. He meets Asuka at a train station and he has a momentary hesitation that suggests that somewhere deep down, he remembers everything that has happened.

Here is the end.

Chapter ends with Shinji walking into the snow, he forgot everything. Asuka doesn't remember anything either.

Also Misato's cross is on his bag.
Whole world has been reset; their memories erased.

That sounds much less interesting than what happened in the TV show. A billion endings in fiction are like that.

Not exactly that:

The corpses of the mass production Evas are still there and are considered "ancient, mysterious ruins" that puzzle scientists. In other words, it all takes place looooong after the events of the series, and those characters would actually be another Shinji, another Asuka, etc.
It really is rather cliché (Gall Force, Wolf's Rain, etc) and sugary. Not exactly surprising considering Sadamoto's choices up to that point.

Yeah the manga ending isn't anything mind blowing. It's been done before in other anime/manga. Here's hoping Eva 4.0 does something more than that.

The manga ending is just terrible. Very, very cliche, and actually counter to the points Evangelion was making.

I liked the manga ending, I think it's good.

Also liked the manga because it had
EVA 1 joining the EVA 2's fight against the MP Evas, always hated that Shinji didn't do shit against them in the movie

It's been a while since I saw 1.0 and 2.0, which I enjoyed, but should I just go ahead and watch 3.0 or should I wait for 4.0 to release? That might be awhile but I might actually decide to go through the whole thing in one sitting.

I'm actually thinking about watching the whole series and End of Evangelion again, I have the whole DVD collection. That's how much I was into the series a while back.

I need to watch the series again. I don't think I've watched it since I rewatched it right before the English release of End of Evangelion.

Might as watch it and get disappointed by 3.0 out of way.

It basically makes no difference, because
Shinji for some reason still decides that the world should end, Asuka gets tanged, and then they all die, get reincarnated and forget about it anyway. Whether Shinji does the right thing by her or not matters not one bit.

That's much longer than it's been for me. I think the last time I rewatched it was when I was in high school and now I'm almost done with college.

From reading some previous comments in the thread 3.0 does seem disappointing. Might as well watch it soon.

yeah I first watched 1.11 in my freshmen year, recently watched 3.33 and...wait for 4.44 maybe watching both in a row will be alot better.

I think I'll watch 3.33 soon, because who knows when they will release 4.44. I'm sure it'll be a good while. Once they release the last movie I think I'll watch all of rebuild in one sitting.

manga spoiler
You really hate that reset ending, don't you?. Well I liked the little touches in the manga like Shinji actually saving Asuka in this one instead of just watching her getting destroyed.

In EoE when Shinji goes outside all furious about what they did to Asuka, I expected him to do something instead of just waiting for a lance to impale his Eva, I was pretty disappointed because there was no payoff of him even getting in the eva to fight.

Also, we got some extra scenes in the pretty much best battle of the series, plus some gendo kicking ass with adam in his hand :)

IMO of course

Excuse me, but are you suggesting that Wolf's Rain's ending was cliche?
Paradise/heaven is OUR WORLD
I thought that was awesome.

Yeaaaaah, I just read the chapter and it's pretty much
Rahxephon's
ending. Seriously. Pretty ironic all things considered lol

OMG, I love this. It sounds so different from the TV series/movies. I'm gonna have to look for the manga's last 2 books now. I have almost all of them except the last 2, IIRC. I wonder if the rebuild movies are somewhat based on that.

Nothing big but is there any reason Asuka got the new plugsuit towards the end?
I didn't even notice the first time I watched. Really liked the design of the new one though.

The world has been reset following Third Impact. The Angels, Eva, NERV, and Seele never existed.

Tbh, I dig this

It's different from the anime sure, but that's what we signed up for. It's a different take on the series and a happier ending for a bunch of flawed characters that deserve it. (At least in ONE continuity)

I don't mind, but there's no reason it should have taken 20 years to come up with an ending we've seen a hundred times before.

Aren't there like 2 mangas where the characters just hang out and go to school? Pretty sure they're perfectly happy in a bunch of continuities... but I haven't actually read them ;)

Wasn't he busy with other projects?

Hell, i'm impressed that he decided to stuck out to the end, to finish it.

I guess. I meant that I wanted them to be happy in the main NG universe.

I was trying to say that Eva 3.33 uses the source material in a way that isn't sycophantic and pandery.

In every other respect though, this is pretty much true.
Huh? We watched the same movie, right? The one where Shinji and Kaworu's relationship is reduced to a hollow uguu-fest and Mari's tits bounce around at every oppurtunity?!

Into Darkness may have been a run-of-the-mill action film, but at least it got the basics of how to do character development and plot right.

Edit: As regards the manga, the ending is absolute garbage.
Shinji has undergone a total change in attitude despite having no idea what led him to adopt said attitude. It's beyond stupid. Having all the characters forget what happened to them all pretty much renders everything that happened meaningless.
It's bizarre, since the guy who made the manga was right there with Anno when the series was created. Between that and 3.0, I'm now convinced that neither of the two dudes who made the original series understood what the buggering hell it was about!

You know that it isn't coming up with that ending that took the guy 20 years...
And after 20 years of "almost exactly the same as the original (and sillier otherwise)", you probably shouldn't have expected much in the first place.

Considering how "in the moment" the making of Eva was, its not surprising.

Anno hates you, seriously.

Just watched 3.33, and am pretty confused with the choices they made. The original series was also confusing, but in a way that made me interested in watching and figuring out what was going on. In this I barely have an idea of what has happened between 2.0 and 3.0, and don't understand the choices they took with the plot and the characters. So just disappointing right now.

Biggest question right now would be:

If it's been 14 years since Near Third Impact, why does it seem like no one has aged, especially the pilots?

The pilots are the only ones who didn't aged. It just doesn't really show for the others, but they did age.
