Cameron will use the event to also speak out against evolution, which he thinks is not credible and a major contributor to the growth in atheism.

"Evolution is unscientific. In reality, it is a blind faith that's preached with religious zeal as the gospel truth. I'm embarrassed to admit that I was once a naïve believer in the theory,” said the former television star in a statement. “Atheism has become very popular in universities – where it's taught that we evolved from animals and that there are no moral absolutes. So we shouldn't be surprised when there are school shootings.”
Now how about taking that notion that Atheists as a whole are culpable for anything any single individual of similar belief does, and flipping it around on religion?

Ah, double standards are so convenient.

Evolution is just a theory, and for what might be short term proof, all people would have to look at are new drug resistant strains of old diseases.

I like Growing Pains and his character on there... but nowadays he is just another creepy zealot peddling his beliefs as unwavering truth... sigh...

but what does Boner think of all this?
lol. I can't believe they got away with calling a character boner.. not only on prime-time TV, but on a family sitcom as well.. lol..... thanks for reminding me. ha!

Boner used to be just a word that meant mishap.

Kirk Cameron is like Christianity's poor man's Tom Cruise.

i had a scene from Growing Pains tivo'd of Brad Pitt playing the new guy at Carol's high school. It was awesome.

douchebag.

It's not considered blind faith to believe it when the evidence supporting the theory continues to stack up over time. Just like Ken Miller said...

If one of our chromosomes is not fused, then evolution is wrong; we do not have a common ancestor. But guess what, chromosome #2 is fused, and it explains why we have one less pair than the great apes.

What about the land whale skeletons in the Indus River valley? What about, what about...just shut up, fundie.

The best is ready to begin.

As long as we got each other
We got the world sitting right in our hands.
Baby rain or shine;
All the time.
We got each other
Sharing the laughter and love.

you forgot the "ooooo_OOOOO ooooo OOOO" between the verses.

BTW, the link is about more than just Kirk:
Ray Comfort, author of God Doesn't Believe in Atheists, alongside fellow Christian and actor Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) will butt heads with two ardent nonbelievers using only scientific fact in a debate sponsored by ABC. Comfort says that the evidence will “absolutely” confirm that there is a God, and he will not speak about his faith.
Oh, this should be interesting.

Well, he is right about evolution being a theory. I don't think people do nearly enough research on the topic and simply jump on whatever area supports their personal ideology.

I use to think he was the coolest guy in the world. Seriously, I use to think Mike was so cool. Always in detention and had his own little place with a water bed.

in modern science ( I believe) a "theory" is the highest level an idea/hypothesis can attain.

eg. Kirk Cameron?

Fundamentalism and Creationism are on the rise in the US, and more popular than 20 years ago.

We have much more school violence.

It's fun playing the Logical Fallacy Game (Correlation is not Causaion Edition). You can play it to support any side in an argument!

Other popular theories inlcude the Germ Theory of Disease (ie. some disease is caused by invisible creatures in our bodies). It's just a theory!

A theory? Like gravity?

Mr. Cameron, you can 'believe' in atheism or in the gospel truth and still be an idiot either way.

"Religion is unscientific. In reality, it is a blind faith that's preached with religious zeal as the gospel truth. I'm embarrassed to admit that I was once a naïve believer in religion,” said the former television star in a statement.

Fixed.

Hah, it's the banana guy.

As for the shooting, I don't know if the killer was a Christian, but he apparently believed at least part of the Bible story, and compared himself to Jesus.

STFU, just STFU.

"Evolution is unscientific. In reality, it is a blind faith that's preached with religious zeal as the gospel truth"

As opposed to creationism?

whoa, what was that first version you posted? Did Alan Thicke demand to record a solo version?

I thought forever that it was Alan Thicke singing but it is actually BJ Thomas...

Opening Theme: As Long As We Got Each Other
Written by John Bettis
Composed by Steve Dorff
Performed by B.J. Thomas and Jennifer Warnes.

As Long As We Got Each Other

Alan Thicke did sing Diff'rent Strokes opening...

Oh well. If anyone is actually dumb enough to be moved by the words of Kirk ****ing Cameron, they probably already "doubted" evolution anyway.

Why do christians want to give themselves a bad name everytime when confronted with evolution or anything scientific that outsmarts them?
:'(

No wonder certain creationist gaffers label Atheist's (me) as "The Atheist Elite" and use us as a scapegoat to confront social issues in Western society.

WRONG. There has been a huge body of work last century that has pretty clearly not only observed the evolutionary process in action, but been used as a springboard for models that accurately predict future micro-evolutionary events. The attempt to discount evolution as a "theory" (inferring there isn't a repeatable body of observation to support it), actually shows how under educated folks trying to dismiss evolutionary process actually are. Evolution is as close to being a "Law" as Einstein's work (which has turned out to be a pretty damn good model as well).

It's funny that the people most desperate to poke holes in the science of evolution are the ones relying on a book that discusses talking to burning bushes and snakes. Supposedly sober.

Oh Kirk, peddling that old song that a belief in evolution and belief in God are mutually exclusive. It's much easier to get members by attacking other's beliefs than reconciling your own. I expected more. Did Mr. Seaver teach you nothing?

Ignorance is bliss.

Funny thing is this guy vacations every year in the house next door to my aunts beach house. He never even mentions religion when you talk to him. Just a normal guy. It was surprising because I figured he would be like "hello, do you know about the word of God?"

He was at the beach house just 2 weeks ago with his kids.
