Forza 5: Behind the scenes look (video) [Up: 1080p/60fps]

Well, now we know why there's the lack of night driving... be damn hard in a 1976 McLaren F1 car ;)

Anyone want to rehost the pics? Blocked at work.

Lets see.

Racing at night or some old F1 car.

Yea, I'm sure the vast majority would prefer to have night racing.

FM.net: Open Wheel is Coming!

For the first time, “Forza Motorsport 5” will feature historic grand prix racing cars, including the 1976 McLaren M23 and the 1976 Ferrari 312-2 cars driven by Nikki Lauda and James Hunt, respectively, during the 1976 season. These models are the same cars featured in the upcoming Universal Pictures film “Rush", directed by Ron Howard, and will be available in Forza Motorsport 5 at launch. In addition, IndyCar race cars will be making their series debut in Forza Motorsport 5. The game will feature cars representing four of the top teams in the IZOD IndyCar Series: Andretti Autosport, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Target Chip Ganassi Racing, and Team Penske.

Why are there no pics of the F1 cars?

Helios, while you're here: Please steal the model of the Ford Indigo from PGR3, that'll be fine for me. ;)

Can't get the last two videos to work..? Links seem broken?

Regarding the first video, the backfire seems a little overdone to me, a little too frequent. When it happened in FM4 it was occasional, not constant. When it happened it always wowed me because I wasn't necessarily expecting it. That P1 in chase cam looks like it's trying to send me a message by Morse code.

No night and weather?

Holy shit though, those classic GP cars look incredible.

No night no weather?

Oh, and Turn 10, no weather, no time is one thing, but we still have to contend with no tyre sidewall markings as well?
That Indy Car looks so incomplete without any branding on the tyres.
Please, at least answer this question for me...why can't you put tyre sidewall markings..?
Why?

I'm guessing we are only going to see Prague getting demo'd at E3? It's be nice to at least see some images of what they've done with other locations.

I have to say, FM5 has far, far exceeded my expectations from a visual perspective. Blim's 60fps video is truly a thing of wonder. All my concerns about Xbone being relatively underpowered have evaporated, and it does make me wonder how FM5 is easily the best-looking game shown so far at E3 on any platform (in my opinion, of course).

Turn 10 truly are masters of their art.

Yeah, to be honest, before seeing Blims video, I couldn't really make a proper judgements on graphics even though we've seen some amazing images before that. But holy cow FM looks incredible. Stunning.

So lack of weather and night is ridiculously upsetting. I have the same feelings that I had with regards to GT's audio. It's frustrating to say the least.
I'm looking for some variance in the racing and driving. The question is, where is that going to come from now?

I hope we get some form of recognition in the credits, mate. Race-day atmosphere, helicopters, grid girls, helicopters, pit crew, helicopters, bug/tar splatter, helicopters, windscreen reflections, helicopters... those are OUR fucking ideas..! ;)

The windscreen reflections are ridiculously well done. Seeing your driver's hands and the wheel occasionally reflect utterly convincingly depending on external light angle... it's so subtle, yet so perfect.

The lighting effects in cockpit view, the lens flare, the HDR, the dust on the windscreen... it all looks ultra realistic. The visuals are really getting close to photorealistic from this view. There was a real-life cockpit footage bit in an early FM4 trailer that I thought might be the future of FM visuals, and bloody hell - they've pulled it off.

With most of the bad news out of the way now I'd like to see a huge reveal of stuff that's not aimed at wowing the casuals. Something for the people who buy the damn games and DLC.

lol, yeah, that would be great!

We've been banging on about those things for ever. When I first saw the reveal trailer and then the feature list, I felt that it's as if the game was made and based upon GAF's collective requests. I'm not joking, that's what I felt lol..

Anyway, Sessler asked Dan what new features will the fans of Forza be treated to. He answered basically that there is a lot of new content and experiences.
Now, I understand that there's always a marketing strategy put into place to show off and reveal certain aspects of the game, but I truly wish that this process of drip feeding doesn't happen with FM5. I hope they hit us hard with info more often if only to keep us hyped especially after all the MS stuff, no weather/night, wheel..etc

I'm actually glad that they got the lack of weather and time out of the way quickly. It would have been much, much worse if they waited to launch to answer that.

It's a sticky situation for Turn 10. Most, if not all negatives so far are on MS shoulders not Turn 10's.
Having said that, the situation is what it is and people are going to have to either accept it or move on. Turn 10 are going to have to work a lot harder now in order to draw people back in and what better way than to bombard us with constant information and media. Let's face it, that's the only weapon they have left in their armory..

Don't worry, Forza fans. They have the Top Gear cast! Who needs time change and weather when you have the Top Gear cast?..... Right?.....

What a joke.

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

This is the first bit of decent quality footage I've seen so far. Its just.....magnificent. No night or weather is disappointing, but no question this will be THE must-have launch game still.

The DW12 looks great, too. Not my favorite open-wheel car, but it should still be good fun. And having the old '76 F1 Mclaren and Ferrari's is sweeeet(even though I think that era of F1 cars were a little ugly).

EDIT: Oh yea, looks like there's finally a windshield! yay

Get fucked foxy.

Indeed. He's a sad fucking fanboy.

Yeah, no lie I was pretty impressed with Blim's video as well. Only things that really stuck out to me were the low-framerate shadows and reflections with chase cam, and the 30fps mirrors inside. Other than that, I was surprised.

There were some good points brought up on the VVV video though, namely that the road looks very sterile without much texture or imperfection to it (like marbles and such). Hopefully that'll get picked up on and tweaked as we get closer.

And yeah, I haven't seen dashboard reflections that good in any driving game yet, I don't think. Very nice.

Gamespot interview with Dan can't come soon enough. The last one for FM4 two years ago, the one that went for 20+ minutes, that was the best thing. I watched it over 20 times, no BS. Forza always manages to get me hyped, even after all these letdowns.

When is that exactly?

Slighty Mad Studios have been doing them since Shift 1, but they were pre-rendered/static. Forza's reflections is a whole new level.

UPD. We had them in Autovista in FM4 as well, but I would guess they were static.

Please tell me you've downloaded Blim's 60fps video from Gamersyde, Sean?

It's THE best footage out there right now, and graphically the best thing I've seen from any racing game, pCARS included.

My computer cant handle them Gamersyde videos, unfortunately.

Anyone comments from Forza players on the Thrustmaster, how FFB compares to HID/XID?

Jordan (from GTplanet) had a go and apparently it feels quite bad but that is most like due to Beta wheel and incomplete physics.

Who knows, maybe FFB support in XID has gotten significantly worse than on 360.

Indeed. He's a sad fucking fanboy.

A fanboy would be someone who ignores this major setback and acts like it isn't a big deal.

The two most requested features have been left out (Despite being hinted at for this gen). I feel like I have the right to be a little bit pissed.

I don't care how the paint job looks when I press my face against it. That is what you call bad priorities.

I am with you on this. It is easily the best looking game I have seen among next gen titles. Blim's video really highlights how good it looks. Other videos made the sun look blown out but you can see how perfect it is in Blim's vid.

So, what do we know so far? Off the top of my head:

+ open wheelers, Indycars, historical F1 cars
+ all cars now Forzavista
+ DRLs, headlights
+ bug/tar splatter
+ Drivatar 2.0
+ helicopters
+ AI (Drivatar) cars can use community liveries
+ all-new graphics engine
+ all-new lighting engine
+ all-new physics engine
+ helicopters
+ grid girls, pit crew
+ race-day atmosphere
+ more life to circuits (flock of birds, fog, better crowds, TV camera crews, helicopters)
+ 3-layer paint system, can chip individual layers
+ more detailed visual damage
+ improved hand animations
+ cockpit windscreen reflections

+/- different storefront & reward system for tuners/painters/photographers

- no night
- no weather
- no auction house
- not enough helicopters

possible: no Fanatec support
possible: fewer cars in the overall roster
possible: fewer cars on track
possible: blimps and hot-air balloons
possible: more helicopters
possible: no tyre side-wall branding

What else have I missed?

Get fucked foxy.

Seriously, I have a lot of negative opinions about what I have seen from Drive Club but I don't go shiting up that thread.

I am currently here at E3 and a lot of things are going on. It is exciting to see a new console generation coming up.

At the moment we still did not get a final confirmation whether our Xbox 360 wheels will work on Xbox One natively (USB) or with an adaper or upgrade kit or not at all. Therefore we cannot promise you anything other than that we are trying to find a solution and if MS allows it then we would certainly support any solution which increases the compatibility of your XBox 360 wheels.

You can be sure that we are working to make our wheels compatible with the next gen consoles or develop solutions which will provide compatibility but at this point it is too early to discuss it.

Mascot- Windshield reflections.

Also, why did you list tyre sidewall markings under possible?
Did you hear something?

#TEAMTHOMAS

Please, please do something Turn 10. I know it's not in your hands but please convince MS to allow current wheel use. Pleeeeeeaaaaasseeee.
No rain and night will be completely forgiven then.....

Although still not perfect, they also improved the driver's hand animtions

Added to list!

Possible because they haven't been shown yet, but they might come later. I mean, they HAVE to, surely? Indycars and F1 cars (and GT cars, FFS!) look daft without them.

He's the hero Forza deserves and we'll keep nagging because he can take it.

I just ordered a Scart cable for the Dreamcast.

Test Drive Le Mans...
60fps
Day+night
Rain
Up to 20 cars on the track.

Dreamcast.

In the year 2000.

I did an actual 24hr race in college when I got that game. Memories :)
