Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

This is legitimately weird, but I've seen a couple of other people say this same thing. I can tell you that I don't have this issue. I have two Vitas, and my second Vita hasn't been plugged in for five days (I just don't really use the thing). I just checked the battery and it's full. That's leaving it in standby rather than powering off. So I don't think it's just you, but it's definitely not universal either.

i've had the battery issue myself since around the time folders were added.
If i recall right it's likely linked to the wifi doing something it shouldn't and if you make it so it's not active when in standby/sleep then it should be fine.

I haven't touched my vita in a while though... though to be fair since I started my new job I haven't done much gaming that isn't multiplayer based, and I don't really own any MP games on my vita that I would play the MP on.

Hey guys,

I've been neglecting my Vita a little bit over the last few days (damn you Animal Crossing!!!) and I'm suddenly finding that my Vita's battery drains really quickly during sleep mode even if I don't use it. I have been recharging the thing every second day and right now I barely use it but for some internet surfing here and there - still it drains to the point where I actually have to plug it in and charge for a few minutes to even turn it on.

That's been my experience, so I've been turning it all the way off instead of putting it into sleep mode. Seems to do the trick, and it boots pretty quick, so not that big a deal.

I guess it has to do with the WiFi

Come on Vita-Muffins!! WAKE UP!! Muramasa is only two weeks away, TWO WEEKS!

Two....WEEKS!

Dos WEEKS!!

My only regret is that Amazon doesn't have release date delivery on the collectors edition. I will have to wait a couple days *Sad Panda*

Two weeks? I thought it was coming next week right (25th)?

Plays great. The demo stuttered a bit but the full game is mostly smooth at 30 FPS like the console versions.

(I also have it on the PC where it's a consistent 60 FPS but I've put more time into the Vita version so far.)

Sounds good, the demo had me worried. But as long as its pretty smooth I'll probably pic it up. I need a kart racer.

I tried rest of the Jak trilogy.

Jak 1 frame rate is definitely more worse than 2-3. Jak 3 looked very clean and ran nicely. IQ seemed worst in game number 2, maybe lower resolution. Quality of the ports are iffy at best but that doesn't keep me from enjoying them.

Valhalla Knights 3 at E3. Figured I'd share considering how big it is on that giant Sony HDTV.

Even though the game is questionable, I'm still really interested because of the party building/combat. Plus a few people I know who have played the JP version like it a lot so, idk.

I believe the graphics are the same as the ps3 version, though i think they look better on the vita.

I don't recall seeing upgraded graphics in the list of new stuff

disgaea 4 had HD sprites though, it will look amazon on the vita when it hits it :P

That is very unfortunate :\

And you're joking about Disgaea 4 getting released for Vita right? :p

Anyways, stuff I bought for Vita that I didn't play: Gravity Rush, Assassin Creed Liberation, Guacamelee, Thomas Was Alone, and Soul Sacrifice.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME.

Oh, and did they upped the resolution for the character graphics in Disgaea 3 Vita? Anyone here can answer this for me?

If you go into the options there's an option for "smooth" graphics if I recall which is the "enhanced" graphics.

Having just scrapped the cash for SS together myself we should run some pacts sometime :D

nope, not joking, it hasn't been officially announced, but I really don't see a reason why disgaea 4 would break the trend of a hand held version releasing on the sony portable 3 years after the original game was released (for the japanese version of course)

Nis has had decent sales on the vita, thus I fully expect a disgaea 4 vita releasing in japan late 2014, and early 2015 here.

So the framerate in Jak 1 doesn't make it unplayable? How far into the game are you?

By "worse", do you mean, like sub-30fps? Or the other ones run above 30fps and Jak 1 only runs at 30?

Shahid just tweeted some info on the JRPG Request Campaign. Out of over 1,200 tweets using the #jrpgvita hashtag, the "Tales of" series got over 1,000 tweets. Final Fantasy Type-0 also had a strong following.

Shahid just tweeted some info on the JRPG Request Campaign. Out of over 1,200 tweets using the #jrpgvita hashtag, the "Tales of" series got over 1,000 tweets. Final Fantasy Type-0 also had a strong following.

Here are more detailed results:

- Tales series: Over 1,000 mentions (Hearts with 546 mentions, Innocence with 354 mentions)
- Final Fantasy: 315 mentions, focussing on Type-0
- Valkyria Chronicles: 206 mentions

GAF not counted yet. He says he will have those later on.

Not to say I am a bit disappointed. I mean, Tales? Seriously? And Tales of Hearts at that? These game is not any good at all (from what I have heard and the reception it got in Japan at least). That alone disappoints me, but that it was chosen over Type-0 really is mind boggling to me. Perhaps some campaign or something like that. Or perhaps Type-0 is not that known.

I'm sure FFT-0 will win GAF though..

It's always poverty month

So recently took a trip to California and the Vita was super helpful in sucking up the six hours, most of it with the Blazblue story mode since I never went past Ragna on my PS3 copy of continuum shift.

Overall I was actually surprised with how much I liked it, reading impressions on Gaf I thought it was going to be much worse, but honestly its not more trope filled then any other story I've read on both sides of the pond and it doesn't execute them particularly poorly either. That said though I do see where a lot of the criticism comes from, overall what I saw was that the story was split into two "layers" the first being the "regular" one where x therefore y. Its easy to follow and really fleshes out each character, more then other fighting games I feel, and surprisingly it has a really good world building aspect which makes me see why a visual novel and anime are being made.

Of course then there is the second "meta" layer where there is a bunch of gods, alternate dimensions, and random jargon words made to sound cool. SO MANY THINGS UNEXPLAINED, like really the two "gods" and "observation" and Hazama's existance are just things which are more complicated then they need to be. Though it does get me interested in Chrono Phnatasma so I guess that's a plus.

Speaking of Plus, really hyped for God Eater's Burst, really wanted to try it out but was wary of the 20$ price point considering I'm still rocking a 4GB (cry), think it shows good things for 2, everyone download and show there's demand :D

I played th Tales of Hearts demo and it fucking broke my heart. I really liked the few hours I was able to play of the DS version back in the day and was kind of looking forward to play this. But this remake, my GOD. It looks and play like a steaming pile of shit.

Disclaimer: I love the Tales series.

How is it that FF didn't even have a third of the number of votes that Tales did?

I guess the VitaGAF community made me believe that all Vita owners had good taste in games. :/

From what I saw most votes for Type-0 were on Gaf and not twitter, aren't those tweets only referring to suggestions marked with the hash-tag? I know I didn't tweet my Type-0 support because I don't use twitter.

So the framerate in Jak 1 doesn't make it unplayable? How far into the game are you?

It's playable for me, others opinions may vary, not very far, running around overworld, having fun (fishing wasn't fun).

By "worse", do you mean, like sub-30fps? Or the other ones run above 30fps and Jak 1 only runs at 30?

I think it's 20+, maybe oled smoothens things little bit, some jumps seemed kind of hard cause of the low framerate. 2+3 are very smooth, only played them little from the beginning though.

Try before buy, if you can. I am happy with my purchase, haven't played these in glorious 60fps so I don't know what I'm missing.

The internet fanbase for Tales is pretty active. They're often doing all these kinds of project to gather a bit or attention or whatnot and Namco-Bandai has given them serious reasons to be hopeful for future releases (releases of newest games, Baba doing a lot of interviews for fansites...). They heard of that poll, managed to get the word around and here you are.

On the other hand, normal people have pretty much given up on FF Type-0 coming out, and some also on the Vita and FF altogether.

Hey yall, I have a random problem I need help with. I connected my Vita to my housemate's PS3 to play Guacamelee several weeks ago, and ever since, I get notifications on my Vita when he turns on his PS3. It's pretty annoying, lol. How do I turn those off? I tried disconnecting my Vita from his PS3, and I thought I did it succesfully, but apparently not.

Vita Gaf, how may I get my clutches on Guilty Gear for Vita? I know it's US Store digital exclusive. I live in Australia, if I make a US account, download it ONCE and switch to my EU account, I'll be able to play it offline fine, correct?

What the hell happened to Snapshot, wasnt it playable at a show a long time ago? Last year E3?

no idea there has heen a demo for it at my gamestop for it for months on their display unit. No idea what happened to it.

My biggest problem with E3 was no dates, no date for dead nation, no date for the GOW collection, and no dates for the indies i want to buy.

The PC version came out last year, and has already been in a humble bundle.

Maybe I'm jaded because I play them all the time, but it's hard to get excited over yet another puzzle platformer. They are to indie games what the FPS is to AAA games.

Shouldn't the Vita stop the orange LED when its fully charged? It only stops the orange when I switch it on and its fully charged. Turning it back off switches off the LED light, is that normal?

We have another Sahid!
Rey Gutierrez: "I can safely say, Gamescom is definitely gonna be a PsVita show."
http://youtu.be/1hfAj5dzc_o?t=7m32s

And HipHopGamer "knew it" :D
Don't do this to yourself :(
Anyway when it's gamescom?

Oh, and did they upped the resolution for the character graphics in Disgaea 3 Vita? Anyone here can answer this for me?
No it's the game that has a lower resolution, disgaea 3 sprites are basically the ps2 ones so they look better on vita then on ps3 because of the lower resolution.

Mmm I wonder if someone will actually pick up Muramasa in Europe or should I just import it some time this summer.

I don't mind waiting for the game to come out, I do mind when that wait is for an announcement. :)

Like what I've said in the other thread:

The reason why Tales got high is because people assumed what JRPG Vita games they want to see localized only, not necessarily ported. The thread title is what made it so too...

It would have helped if it was clearer like "What JRPGs do you want to see on the Vita? Like what PSP/PS2 games would you like to see on the Vita?" This will undoubtedly make type-0 pretty high.

Anyone think we have a hope of getting Kingdom Hearts ports for the Vita in the future? I was honestly surprised when I double-checked and saw that yep, 1.5 is PS3 only.

Every Vita game has to be released digitally. No Kingdom Hearts game has been released digitally.

But Monster Hunter started out as a PS2 game. It only became a portable series later on. And re-used a heck of a lot of the assets from the PS2 release while doing so. In multiple releases... across PC and home consoles...

The primary audience is on home consoles for those games, but... so what? That doesn't mean they wouldn't pick up a portable game that offered something in their series, if it was compelling enough.

At the very beginnings, I mentioned games could either be ports, or continuations, or expansion packs.. the whole variety of options. The point was to make assets and an engine, and then run with it. NSMB appears to do exactly that.

NSMB is actually exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about though; Nintendo was able to the WiiU with a new Mario of considerable gameplay quality, that felt polished in many ways, because they were not re-inventing the wheel to make it. Started on a portable in 2006, continues to be successful with console releases across 2 home system generations, and even ones back on portable, into 2013 and beyond.

Yet you can be sure it helped system sales, and the Luigi expansion they're making now is a low cost idea that seems poised to offer high returns, and will hopefully expand the concept of what Digital services can do for the WiiU, as well, while also being offered as a retail version.

I agree with Nintendo's overall E3 sentiment; We'll pave the way, and once we prove there's a place for games and publishers on this system, those publishers will jump on board.

-----

To offer a Sony-centric example, lets say they made a 2.5D metroidvania-style God Of War on Vita, as a system exclusive.

It got people interested in this sub-series. 2 or 3 years later, they bring out a PS4 entry, as an expanded port, with 2 hours of new content, all the graphic upgrades one expects, plus owning this game either replicates the content for the old Vita version, or gives you a new character to play through a prequel-chapter on Vita, that bridges between the 2 games. Vita version unlocks a new character + some challenge maps on PS4 edition.

1 or 2 years later, the series returns to it's original home on Vita, fully new entry, better looking between the improvements learned on Vita software over the time, and able to use much of the higher-quality assets developed during the PS4's game. Much like Rocketbirds recently did with rewarding players of their PS3 full game or Demo, ownership of these previous 2 releases (Through proof on your PSN account/owning saves/whatever) gives exclusive bonuses.

You minimalize backlash by "this game switches system!" due to time spent between games, and rewarding people who have contributed to the series. You're not competing against yourself, because the releases have easily reached their majority of sales by the time the new game is out. Hopefully, more people go back and buy the old one (especially if it's reduced in price by that time on PSN), to unlock the content in the latest release.

---

In the end, I guess you can say I love my Vita exclusives, but I don't think it hurts a brand to have some intermediate releases between big sequels, especially because real great sequels take time. I'd be first in line to buy a Gravity Rush 1.5 (with all DLC + Sea Wasp backstory new content) on PS3 or 4, and would be right back for Day 1 of Gravity Rush 2 on Vita.

I wonder how a "The Last of Us" Vita exclusive story would have worked out, for instance...

I'm not against spinoffs using console assets, I just think you're crazy if you don't see ports of those games damaging sales.

Type 0 and vc3 fall in the "localization" category too :P
Maybe the title has its part of fault but if you read the tweets after this
you will see that people stopped asking for type 0 because they assumed that type 0 was already done.

It could even be that native vita games are preferred to psp ports or some other reason, gaf(sadly?) does not represent the world.

Toto review:

LIMBO - this is game about waiting - your character moves as fast as paralised turtle zombie and you wait 2 bilions hours to travel from one boring platform puzzle to another.

For the hype it got it sure is rather boring game so far.
