We should have Mor Dhona and Coerthas coming in the launch version of the game as well as West Black Shroud (Anceint Eorzea Stratum), the special battlefield zones for all the primals. They also mentioned in the E3 live letter that although only 40+ zones will be in at launch, they have plans/capacity to implement a LOT more via downloaded updates. Ishgard and its content is supposedly coming sometime between launch and the first expansion and since yoshida mention loosely they hope to have an expansion 1.5 years after launch (They expect that to be delayed) that alone will be a sizable addition.

We might need to wait till sometime after launch to get truly new looking themes/areas and I look forward to what they come up with it as the game expands. One of my favorite part of the MMO is how worlds just keep getting bigger and bigger as the game goes on, usually/hopefully integrating seamless with the original world (I don't expect a Dalamud/cataclysm like event to happen again for this game :P)
Ishgard is going to come before the first expansion? They really are going all out.

Wow, really looking forward to launch and the updates coming. If 23-50 quests and content are anything like 1-22, then this is gonna be my most favourite mmo since WoW at launch. That feeling is back man (and i thought it was gone forever).

My sentiments as well. Haven't had this feeling in a long time :D

Didn't get to do any party battles but I wonder how does group play work out? Is it just DPS, Tank and healer combo?

Any roles like Red Mage to provide enfeebling magic, auxiliary healing and damage. Or Bard that provides lots of boons to the party? I know at it's heart FFXI was still a trinity game but all the other classes that provided unique benefits really set it apart.

Funny, it has a job called Bard. Weird...

Yes, there are support classes.

For those interested, the U.S. Square Enix store is now selling the Before Meteor OST w/ Wind-up Dalamud minion.

You bastard. You just cost me $50. =(

Basically the usual trinity for instance groups.

As for the different roles, honestly there is nothing in this game that matches up to FFXI's Red Mage/Bard in terms of support. I mean, obviously this game has a Bard of it's own, but it doesn't match up at all to the old Bard. I guess it makes sense though since they went for more of a offensive variety this time around.

I'm proud of myself that I'm able to resist that. No tie-in stuff for me with this game.

They should really bring back more songs from that soundtrack though.

EDIT: Actually not just more... all of it.

((slightly off topic))

I'm so tempted to buy the LE version for PC, but I'm hesitant to order it thru the SE website. What's everyone's experience with their shop? Are they pretty reliable when handling preorders (and the goodies that come with it)?

I want Nail of Heaven, Conflagration, and the Parley theme back somewhere! :D

SE does their store stuff through Digital River which is pretty notorious for being bad at that stuff.
Selling it as a Blu-ray disc which owners can register to download MP3 versions. Well, that's one way to delay piracy.

So this thing is the original music for FFXIV which has been replaced for ARR? Or does it include the new music too?
It's just the original's music as far as I know.
Is the Wind-up Dalamud minion the same thing that comes with the Japanese version of the OST? I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago from CDJapan, but it would be cheaper to get this one from the U.S. store.
It's the same; this is the Japanese "version" just through the official store.

There were a few nice tunes in 1.0, but ARR's OST blows it away.

Well, for $50 it's actually less than I paid for the FFXII OST LE back in the day. I guess that's not so bad, and I'm sure there will eventually be an OST release for ARR as well. On Blu-ray disc, no doubt. This is such an interesting distribution method, music on BD.

It had better all be uncompressed stereo LPCM if they're going to use BD. If it's compressed into something I'm going to flip tables.

"96khz/24bit" apparently. Don't know how that relates to what you said.

For the five frickin' seconds they actually play music. :/

I love ARR's OST so far; it doesn't "blow away" 1.0's until they have a song that matches the NVD and Garuda themes (it doesn't right now) but that ambient stuff needs to go.

I cant lie...I complained about the loops, but they seem like they've gotten a nice balance. I've got the main area of thanalan's theme stuck in my head. Also the FATE NM battle theme is great stuff. The boss battle theme blows away Garuda easily (even though thats great) but I dont know what would beat Rise of the White Raven.

Well, both compressed and uncompressed audio can be 96/24 on Blu-ray disc. But I guess we won't know until it's released. I'm hoping for uncompressed LPCM or a lossless format like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio. With 25 GB of space on BD there's no reason to use a lossy compression format, with the exception of the MP3s you can get by putting the disc in a computer.

Too bad there wasnt more on the blu ray. Honestly, there arent that many tracks...are there? I know it says 104 songs, but looking back, there couldnt have been that many songs could there?

Gotta be some arrangements or black mage versions (like that version of Limsa Lominsa).

It could have 50 versions of "Answers" for all I care. Would be okay by me. =)

I remember the first Alpha rip was, like, 70 tracks so it doesn't seem too far off.
So does anyone know how much the monthly subscription costs? Did a google search found nothing.
Go here and to "Pricing/Platforms". Standard is $14.99 for 30 days.

Damn peer pressure...now I kinda want it. The only thing that plays blu-rays in my house is my PS3 lol. But I dont own any actual FF soundtracks aside from XII-2 from the CE of that game (which was really nice)...just a bunch of mp3s.

Haven't played an MMO in forever. The most recent 8-4 play podcast got me kind of interest in this but I got a couple of questions first.

1) PS3 version run alright? No big fps drops or anything? On that same note is there a PS4 version in the works?
2) How easy is it to solo as say...a white mage/healer in the game? I mean, I know they are probably a support class first but I was wondering if you could still deal out the hurt on the solo side.
3) Has there been a lot of big patches/installs on the ps3 side? Got about 60 gigs left on mine and was wondering about this.

Thanks fellas.

CNJ/WHM can solo fine, it's just a little boring as they don't have much on the attack side of things.

1. Stable 25-30fps, it's not great but it's fine - doesn't change much even with lots of effects.
2. Very, Conjurer (the class that leads to the white mage job) has been the easiest to level so far imo.
3. It's between 5-10GB.

I'm kinda surprised they don't mention Uematsu for Before Meteor anywhere since he composed, like, around 70% of the tracks. I'm curious to hear his take on ARR and everything.

They said it's 6 hours of music.

And I think that's possible with cinematic tracks and all the new music they added since launch, etc.

Went ahead and preodered the PS3 Collector's Edition. Dat art book.

Was sure that I wouldn't be buying any more PS3 games without BC, but I need this at launch. I hope they end up doing it as a cross buy thing or making the PS4 client free, but I know that's doubtful. I guess all of the collector's edition goodies make it easier to forget that I'm buying a worthless disc though.

Look at it this way, you might be so into the game you wont even want a ps4 until ff14 comes out on it :lol

There are a ton of songs that are only used once or twice in missable or short quests. Most of them are pretty damn good.

EDIT: I already know what song I'm going to use to represent FFXIV 1.0 in the OT. Not one that's too obvious, but it is perfect for it.

Wait for Dark Knight.

You think they'll use swords? Can't think of a FF class that uses swords except maybe red mage. Samurai, but they use specialized swords. I guess thief could work, too. Either way, I'll play whatever sword using damage dealer they add. I hope they add something soon. I've been leveling up using a sword, but so many skills are for tanking only. Gonna have to switch to axe or polearm to get some good skills. :(

Swords are pretty lame without a shield. =P

Unless...

you have two of them!

Unless its using a Great Sword, a Dark Knight without a giant scythe is a lame ass Dark Knight. =)

Well Dark knights have used a sword (sometimes special dark swords) and shield most of the time aside from in XI. I wouldn't mind a great sword wielding Dark knight though, if only for the fact that I like great swords when done right.
