ESGN #1? I'd love to get your thoughts on it. I could only get through a couple tracks...it seems like he is devolving. Those trap beats sound second rate, and I preferred the production on previous projects.

My favorite part of the album is actually the middle, and I feel like the production changes in spurts.

Nobody is paying 3 million for a mixtape artist. Hell, nobody is paying 3 million for any artist when somebody with the hype and backing of Kendrick goes platinum in half a year's time. Joey Badass got that Nas disease and that shit is terminal. Dumb smart motherfucker will be wishing he signed that contract when he's doing shows in Idaho next year with 40 people and his pay is 20 percent off well drinks.

Drake got a 1 mil deal, ASAP got a 2 mil deal. Who knows if there will be another hot mixtape rapper in the next few years to beat that.

Almost done with the new Joey Badass...very underwhelmed. Some standout tracks but largely it bleeds together with very sloppy vocals from Joey. I don't think the Jamaican, Mos Def-esque style works for him due to his voice; maybe his voice will deepen when he gets older.

Production wise it's also very hit and miss. 1999 featured a nice mixture of dope original production and some almost training wheel DITC beats that anyone can spazz over. Here there are a lot of beats that just don't work to me, but the second half seems to have better production.

Also: way worse hooks/choruses than on 1999.

Des is right, the middle of the album is straight banger after banger. Start the album from Lay it Down and let the rest play out.

also I'm disappointed as fuck in that BonesxEthel Wulf tape. i know theyre not doing very "sophisticated" rap, but damn it sounds like they did that whole tape in an evening. ethel wulf has got to be one of the worst rappers ever.

will give it a few more listens though, only listened to it 1.5x.

I was not particularly a fan of Ethel Wulf at all on that tape. That was my first time listening to him BTW.

I don't know why people jumped all over that tape it was kind of funny. Out of all of their tapes their rapping might be the worst on that one. With that being said, I still fucks with like five tracks super super heavy and I go back to Teenager and some joints off of Creep too.

I don't think it's good. So yeah.
That video is kind of unnecessary. Hodgy Beats has this situation he's in where he doesn't sound interesting ever on any beat. I think he's sounded at home on like 2 beats he's rapped on in the last 3 years. He isn't a bad rapper, just stuck in a loop.

What they need to do is put up the Doris release date. What the fuck is Earl doing, album is probably already done.

Ethel Wulf recommendations pls

you listen to his self titled tape yet? shit's nice.

If you don't like Bone you won't like it at all, like don't even listen to it:

Yeah, original songs.

They've all had a verse here and there.

Trying too hard is pretty accurate actually.

idk what the hell Q is trying. His fan base wants that dark HnC shit. He's trying to be Kendrick ASAP Q right now.

yeaaah. q's first drop from HnC was...sacrilegious? that shits on everything he's shown us for oxymoron so far.

i have yet to listen to the entire collard greens track. i hope that shit didn't make the cut

Des, why you holding out on sharing on these tapes till your write up, homie? scust. I could have used this Young Fathers in my life a little sooner

Comments on the rap-up, snubs?...

Some interesting stuff I plan to give a listen to. Tree - Sunday School, Kool and Kass, Sahtyre, Zeroh. But a few are so fucking generic, like that Joey Fatts and Scotty ATL. Dime a dozen rappers with not a single interesting or unique thing to say.

Snubbed Wreckonize though, album is fantastic.

He's learning from the mistakes of G.O.O.D. Fridays and MBDTF.

Explains a lot. No man should learn from that shit.

Finally got around to Chance the Rapper, this nikka is like a black, hip-hop orientated Jay Kay. I'm digging the hell out of Acid Rap.

His delivery is definitely inventive

Good job Gibbs. This is my album of the year so far but I might need to listen a few more times. It's so long though so it probably won't be. Still need to hear nothing was the same. Also, yeezus and run the jewels are competing. Man. Ugh. Let's wait until December.

Acid Rap had me with the first song just some feel good music to vibe to for the summer this and Yeezus are definitely my favorites of the year so far.

Contrary to many people opinion I relate with many of the songs on yeezus. Aside from I am god (which I'm sure is satire) and a few lines on new slaves I feel like it's pretty much the same ye many of us liked in the beginning masked behind experimental (for him) production. To me this is 808s 2.0

808's is the closest thing you could relate this album to out of his discography it has that same level of experimentation just in a different direction.

So do Andre and Big Boi not like each other? Creative differences? Why did they never release another album?

I feel Andre is legitimately bored with Hip-Hop he's not inspired to make any music on his own while Big Boi's still inspired so he makes an album every few years. 3000 said in a interview that he only does features because the artists ask him for a one.

I can find a lot to relate to in Yeezus & Acid Rap, but differently. I also like the sound of Yeezus far more.

But Acid Rap is tight too. Everybody's Somebody hit me in a weird moment last week. It'll at least make my honorable mentions for the year. It'd have to grow on me a lot over the 2nd half of the year to make my top 10.

i feel the same. BFK was in my top 5 last year and i still spin it all the time but i thought esgn was average at best. ill have to listen to it again though
