Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

@Jamix012: You just said Vita has a better exclusive library than PS1 and PS2.
---

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is not as awesome as I was told it'd be. Thanks a lot, GAF :/

I thought the N64 was a pretty awful console with largely mediocre games. All the Nintendo games seem to take a step back, Mario 64 was far less fun than SMB3 and World, Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask did not hold a candle to Link to the Past. Mario Kart 64 was nowhere near as fun as the original game on the SNES.

The only games i actually enjoyed were the AKI wrestling games. I can sort of understand Nintendo fans liking the system over the PSX or Saturn at the time, i can see the appeal of Mario and Zelda pulling you in that direction. But Ive seen quite a lot of people say N64 is their favorite Nintendo console, which just blows my mind, i think it is the worst (excluding Virtual Boy for obvious reasons and Wii U since it just launched).

Local multiplayer and the few FPS games are sometimes cited as reasons, but in mid-late 90s i was playing FPS games online, on MPlayer, Heat.net and GameSpy. This made it impossible for me to sit there and think much of GoldenEye, while for others its this great FPS.

I always thought the GameCube was very underestimated, it actually has quite a good selection of third party games and good Nintendo games. Okay so Sunshine was not..great. But all the other Nintendo games were pretty damn great.

Tf2 sucks. As much as people like to call the art "charming" I think it's insanely dumb. Played it and hated it. All because of the art. Pity. I liked the original tf.

While I'm aware that the Xbox One as it was originally intended was not going to be successful (still probably won't be anyway), I wanted it as it was originally intended. None of the "bad" stuff proposed affected me negatively and I really liked the idea of having the discs, but not needing them.

I found Bioshock Infinite to be very boring. I didn't get very far.

I have no desire to play The Last of Us, It doesn't look like any fun.

MOBAs are the most unfulfilling genre's I've ever played.

To be completely fair to the Vita, I'm much happier with it's exclusive library at this point in it's life than I would be with the PS2/1s at the same point. Whether I prefer the Vita's exclusive outright to both those consoles? I guess I'd say so, but not by a huge amount (not going into list wars though.) Each is entitled to their opinion and I suppose this is mine.

Says the guy with the PSASBR avatar? How does that work? They're incredibly similar.

I personally like both, but they're pretty different outside of the basic "4-player party fighter" concept. My brother loves Smash but can't stand PSAS so I can see the opposite being true.

Kazunori Yamauchi needs to quit GT (is he even interested in game production anymore?). He is killing GT just like Seabass killed Winning Eleven...

You can say a lot of things about smash brothers, and things it might lack that other fighting games have, but to say its BORING. With all the stuff going on and all the characters and fan service to look at seems kind of an odd comment.

Not that I'll buy it soon, but can you tell me why you think it's better?

I was actually just yankin your chain, I've never played it. Just thought it was funny because I'm sure you heard from or saw a lot of nostalgia-goggled individuals swearing up and down that RCT 1 and 2 were vastly superior.

Half Life 2 plot and pacing is rubbish to the extent that the whole game becomes unfun (Episodes are great though!)

GTAIV - same problem

Also, I think EA are pretty ok.

Fan service doesn't mean jack to anyone that doesn't have nostalgia for or just doesn't really like Nintendo. Smash Bros is boring to me. I DESPISE the gameplay and the roster does nothing for me.

I don't like 2D Mario games (While I enjoy a LOT the 3D ones)
I don't see the big deal with Megaman games (I know he is part of the classic but...)
While I liked Bioshock Infinite I think people are over praising it.
GTA games are not "that good anymore" Sleeping Dogs was better (I still have to play V thought..)
I loved the Zelda Skyward Sword while many people hated it (and I did not like Twilight Princess)
Indie games are the future (Really!)

Shield on!* xD

If it didn't bother you as originally intended then it shouldn't bother you now.

I really hate Nintendo with a passion. I think they are so out of touch with everything they create. It's like they live on a different planet to me.

I was just reminded of this in another thread - LA Noire's facial animation is quite poor and looks more freaky than 'real'.

I don't know if I've said this already

- I don't consider anyone a true gamer if they don't, at the very least, respect Nintendo. You don't have to like them, or their games, but at least recognize the influence they've had through out the years and the entire industry. I feel sorry for anyone who didn't grow up playing their games as kids. To this day, Nintendo is one of the few companies that is able to harmonize art, music, perfect controls and superb level design. They truly get it. They simply capture why video games are fun and what makes people come back for more, over and over again. Few companies are able to do his and even smaller few are can do it consistently.

- Most gamers are really stupid, terrible at games and have awful, AWFUL ideas. Devs really shouldn't listen to the vast majority of their fanbase. Then again, at times, fans are right about things. If a game is horribly unbalanced or is ridden with bugs, most feedback is probably sound. Any other situation, the devs are better off doing what they think is best for the game.

- "Entitlement" is just another way for assholes to convince others that they shouldn't care about their own rights. Sure, these companies are in business to make money. But that doesn't mean I have to give it to them. In the end, without us they wouldn't exist. Gamers should be very concerned about what their money is actually doing towards and know exactly what they're buying. They shouldn't have to just "deal with" anything. Speak up, vote with your wallet. Push back and say no.

- There is nothing wrong with having "cinematic" type game play. However, I don't want every fucking game to glorified shooting gallery, with mindless QTEs that runs in 30 fps. That isn't a game. It's interactive movie. Yeah...I'm looking at you Naughty Dog.

- Oh...OH...OHHH!!! How on God's green Earth is League of Legends so popular!?!??! It's one of the most boring games I have every played. Sure, the characters are neat. But one game mode...one map.....you're kidding right? Complex and deep, my ass. I just can't believe it. I literally fall alseep playing this game. I go into a near comatose state everytime I attempt to watch LOL Twitch streams with friends. Jesus. I really can't stand that game at all. I can't. I CAN'T

- Bioshock Infinite was very disappointing. Great story. Wonderful art. Good music. But game play....what happened Irrational? Linear as fuck, boring, predictable encounters and everything that made the other Bioshock games great, just watered down to nothing. I really hope the DLC is better.

- Edmund McMillen, Tommy Refenes and Florian Himsl are geniuses. Someone give them a blank check and let them do WHATEVER they want.

I don't really understand the fascination with open world games. Usually they just boil down to fetch quests. IMO, Skyrim is one of the most over rated games in recent history. Not only is it repetitive, but the combat is shallow and the game is riddled with bugs. If it was any other dev it wouldn't have turned a profit, but because its Bethesda, gamers are more lenient. They have the attitude where all of Bethesda's games are buggy so why not this one.

Edit: However, I do have hope for the Witcher 3. Looks stunning and very promising.

Since I can't make my own LTTP thread, I'll just throw this out here; Spec Ops: The Line is vastly overrated and not worthy of the praise I see it get. I just got to chapter 10, but I feel like I am just forcing myself to finish the game atthis point. I'm not enjoying it even slightly. Here's why;

The controls are horrible
Why is sprinting assigned to X? Why is sprinting toggle-based? Why do I need to press a button to drop down? Why is melee assigned to O, and executing to that same button? Why is vaulting also assigned to O, but getting into cover to X? It just doesn't make sense. Weren't TPS controls pretty much perfected some time ago? Why do the controls have to be so different from other TPS's?

The cover-system is the worst I've yet encountered in any game
I very often find myself not being able to get out of cover or getting stuck on the environment, and other times Walker just flat-out refuses to get into cover despite me furiously mashing X. Every now and then Walker just runs into the wrong piece of cover, getting me killed. Who the hell programmed this?

The gameplay is generic, boring, shallow and flawed
Up untill now, all I've done is shoot generic enemies in extremely linear environments while hiding behind cover. Yay. The enemies never do anything interesting and seem to have only two general behavioural patterns; they either sit behind cover and shoot at you, or they rush directly to your position and get killed. My teammates do most of the work for me, but also rush ahead of me / stand in front me all the time, leading to me getting killed or them getting downed. They also constantly shout random stuff during battle, which gets very old very quick. All the sandstorm/sand-held-back-by-something-stuff is also completely restricted to very specific or scripted moments, which completely rids the gameplay of any of the uniqueness it could have had. And even having the ability to execute people makes absolutely no sense in the context of the story; why execute disabled enemies while you are trying to find out what happened in Dubai?

The story is bland and uninteresting
Even though I'm in chapter 10, I still haven't got a clue on what the hell is happening or even what the motivations of any of the characters are.
The only thing I know at this point is that I'm supposed to find a guy called Konrad who was apparently a good buddy of Walker. I'm not sure about that last bit however, since the loading screens tell me that Walker 'doesn't want to talk about what happened in Kabul'. Within seconds of the game starting and telling me that Dubai has been pretty much deserted, you encounter a group of locals that you have to start shooting at because they could read your mind and saw you were 'planning something', which they made clear by shouting 'I THINK THEY ARE PLANNING SOMETHING, SHOOT THEM', even though they were having a conversation with you in Farsi. Then you continue and hear this crazy guy talking about stuff over the radio, but the game kind of forgets that and introduces this CIA-guy who gets killed of within seconds of his introduction. Then you encounter some soldiers from the 33rd, who start shooting at you and civilians for no reason. What happens next is now already pretty much a blurred mess in my memory; you fight some more guys for little reason, there's this other CIA guy who also gets killed within seconds of his introduction, there's a random white phosphoreus attack, then you attack the generic enemies with white phosphoreus but you also hit civilians. That last thing was probably supposed to be some sort of emotional moment or something, but I felt nothing because I just don't understand or feel for any of the main characters because I don't know who they are, why I should care for them, what their relationship is, why they went to Dubai, why they are still in Dubai, etc, etc. And then, out of nowhere, Konrad just contacts you and is suddenly the villain, you have to make this stupid choice between two random guys, you shoot more generic people 'just cause', and now I'm at chapter 10. And the loading screens now tell me about a power struggle over a water supply or something, something none of the characters in the game told me about.

Oh, and I find Nolan North's Drake-voice extremely out of place for the main character.

Is it really worth it to keep playing, GAF?

Well you don't seem to be enjoying the game very much, so I would say stop.

As far as this being controversial....it seems the plot just isn't clicking with you like it did for most people who praise the game so much.

Secret of Evermore is the best Mana title ever, and outside of the illustrations, the Mana games are very underwhelming and downright dull to play.\\

Outside of 3D Land and the other Mario sports titles, Mario games on 3DS have been downright awful. I did not enjoy MK7 or NSMB2.

I find Rayman Origins to be much more superior than any other platformer released this year, including Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Persona 4 was shit.

Gears Judgment was shit.

I don't understand the appeal of 999/VLR. It's...interesting, but not enough to keep me going with the game.

I agree wholeheartedly with all those things you pointed out in your post. And I don't think that your opinion on BI is all that controversial.

I enjoy playing the Men of War series more than any other RTS I have, including Company of Heroes. The two killer features for me in MoW are the Slo-mo feature where you can slow down time and be able to actually compensate for a terrible APM, and the manual control feature where you can aim yourself with a unit. Also the slomo looks hella cinematic, and you can see awesome stuff like soldier's guns being thrown into the air & physics'd/ragdolling while the soldier is vaporized by a mortar round.

I just keep playing the scenarios and the beautiful and unique maps. Amazing game.

Too many people want to politicize gaming. There are right wing politicians with their usual bunk but now there is a whole army of liberals who want to include their beliefs within games. I just want to play games, not advance someone's cause. I hate having things forced upon me and there are too many in the gaming journalism community willing to do that. But like total hypocrites, they rail against Microsoft's DRM (something I also disliked) being forced upon people yet they seem to want every game to include their views. Let the market sort this type of thing out and stop trying to manipulate us.There are other forums for that.

I think that Age of Empires II HD was well worth my money considering that it defined a genre and it is up to this day the only RTS that has this certain charm to it that others lack. The path finding of the AI is not that big of a deal to me as it is for most people.

Mario 64 is an even worse example of infantile, inept 3D game design than Ocarina of Time is. Nintendo were woefully inexperienced in the field, and it shows.

The Kirby series is one of the most mind numbing pieces of shit for kids ever made. Those games are the equivalent of injecting sleeping pills straight into your brain.

I find a lot of its design aspects to be archaic. The controls and the camera to be specific.

I might try the 3DS version, but I doubt it would make much of a difference. Maybe the game just isn't for me.

I don't know man. I have the 3ds version and have never played it before (Im 30).

Some of the puzzles were clever and for 1998 it was a huge step forward for "adventure" gaming.

That said, I don't think it holds up very well.

I think it is held up by nostalgia.

The Last Of Us wasn't anything better than decent. It was slow, dull, unremarkable and predictable. Far from a GOTY, let alone of best of the generation.

Nintendo turned into a shitty company, more arrogant than ps3 launch Sony.

They need to release 3ds games on Wii U and use the tablet as second screen.

if not they should ditch the ignorant tablet controller and shut down the Wii u, making Wii 2 and use the classic controller with actual hardware in the console, not 2002 hardware.

Their marketing teams need to be shut the hell down because they keep coming out with hardware with the same god damn name as the previous, and its confusing the fuck out of consumers.

The new 3d Mario looks terrible compared to galaxy. They should hire third parties to make Nintendo franchises more often, instead of one god damn Zelda per system.

They should actually go third party to be honest and get over the "we need to innovate hardware, if we stop hardware we stop everything" bullshit. Just because Wii fit and motion controllers took off last Gen, doesn't mean the gimmick success will continue.

motion controls suck, as do tablet controllers.

/rant, I love Nintendo :(

disclaimer: this is a probably shitty opinion.

I would like to say sorry for my post claiming adults who play pokemon are pedophiles at the beginning of this thread. It was part jest, part on topic and part my head fully up my ass that day. So sure it has been over a year since that post, but remembering my comment has always brought a feeling of self shame whenever I see this thread pop up. It's because of this I'd like to say sorry to anyone I may have offended.

Final Fantasy edition!

The PS1 Final Fantasies are decent, nothing more. Nostalgia is the biggest thing they've got going for them. They have all aged horribly, moreso than FF games on any other platform.

The MMO Final Fantasies should have been spinoffs rather than part of the main series. Can't believe they can still get away with charging a monthly fee for XI. I'm not even sure I'd try them even if they went free-to-play, though.

I really like all the other FFs otherwise, especially IV, V, VI, X, and XII. XIII is nice too, but gets a hilariously inordinate amount of hate. I love that it got two sequels (though at the same time, I'm rooting for X/X-2 HD to outsell Lightning Returns).

XV looks freaking amazing, though I'm a bit wary about how much of an RPG it actually is.

I want another Final Fantasy with a turn-based battle system.

Apology accepted! It's honestly refreshing to see people realizing what they've done wrong here these days.

The Killzone series and Uncharted series are pretty mediocre, I dunno why people keep going gaga over them, I think Shadow Fall is also going to be a mediocre game

I pretty much hate most of the Resident evil games including Code Veronica.

Sonic is an average game
