Oh shit, I would love to see an RD/Revoltech version of the Jaegers.

I've been thinking this. God that would be fantastic, I REALLY hope it happens. I have a bunch of Gurren Lagann Revoltech and they are just fantastic. I know they make Godzilla figures too (minus Godzilla himself, lol, thanks licensing) so doing the Kaiju and Jaegers would be no sweat for them.

Fuck I want it to happen so bad.

Edit: They made fucking Transformers Revoltech they'd better make Pacific Rim figs.

I'm going next weekend with my dad but I'm seriously considering just going by myself to the matinee tomorrow or something.

I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER WEEK

I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER WEEK

Just do it, I went to see it today with my dad, but I couldn't wait that long so I saw it yesterday again after cathing the midnight premiere earlier that day. I can't even remember the last time I was so excited about a film, every summer for the past atleast 3 years I was so hyped for different movies but they all disappointed me, some more then other. But Pacific Rim just gives me wat was promised and it does so gloriously. Can't wait to go see it again.

Personal option: I'd recommend you just waiting to go see it with your dad. If you don't like the film, you'll have to see it again, and if you do like the film, watching a good film with another person is always great because you can talk about it afterwards.

And if you really like the movie, then you can check it out again!

Do they make Jaeger model kits like the Gundam 1/100 or 1 /144 scale models?

In my dreams, perhaps.

Guys...can you post your favorite Pacific Rim artwork?

I may try to see this in the next few weeks. We will see.

I am staying pessimistic though because I have been disappointed by films Gaf threw fits over in the past.

if anyone in US still wants a shinkawa regal poster. have 2 people bail on me, so got 2 packaged up ready to ship.

PM me. Looking for about $15 which includes shipping and packaging. negotiable of course.

Saw it a second time, this time with my 7-year old. He got really into the fight sequences.

Man, I could watch just the opening prep/deployment sequence over and over again. The main theme playing as they suit up and get Gipsy activated, so good.

Probably gonna see it a third time with the wife this weekend.

it really is the ultimate boys movie.

Crazy that there isn't a massive toy merchandise effort. advertise toys on CN, nick, disney. get some happy meal toys.

huge franchise potential kinda just wasted away.

I pinged my friends who are down at Comic-Con to keep an eye out for any interesting Pacific Rim stuff if anything's for sale there.

Yeah I was surprised they gave the main line to Neca,
Not really a company that aims for kids.

This is normally something Burger King would have a big thing for.
don't know why they didn't with this.

Just saw this in Imax 3D. Had a huge fucking grin on my face the whole time. God it just makes me so sad to go to imdb to see it in a number 3 slot behind grown-ups 2. Murica really has the worst taste in movies.

I'm glad they did, all things considered. Neca's line is great.

Someone recorded it from the movie theater. I read that an official version will be out tomorrow.
Thanks dude.

If anyone wonders what Blake Perlman looks like...

Cute family.

Holy shit, this is an awesome cover.

I want to see this again today. Can't get any of my friends to go because they heard it bombed. God I hate that mentality.

Yeah, I've had that cover on loop for about an hour now. Sogood.gif

Your friends' mentality confuses me. Does that mean they missed out on such gems as Dredd, Scott Pilgrim and The Artist just because they heard they weren't doing well? Man, it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Anyway, I'm seeing it for a third time in IMAX with an old high school buddy this Sunday. This movie continues to impress and entertain me no matter how many times I see it.

I found the toys potential rather small actually, unless everything big automatically qualifies as a potential toy.
Mattel distributes variation after variation of Superman and Zod, with a Faora thrown in to appease collectors. Meanwhile, there are a grand total of three Pacific Rim action figures, all of which are selling out like crazy. It's pretty obvious that the toy potential is there. It might not have the staying power of

This is probably one of the most toyetic movies I've watched in years. That's not an insult to it (The toyetic nature is natural to the film, unlike something like the Star Wars prequels), it's just how the movie is.

I don't go to the movies much, maybe twice a year at best, but I decided to go see this being an animu watcher and thinking Guillermo could do it justice, and heck even the RT rating was decent, which for a movie that is expected to be trash has to mean something.

This movie was terrible. Redeeming factor being CGI mechs beating the shit out of godzilla albeit with awful pacing. Otherwise everything else was...just some of the worst I've ever witnessed in all my years. I imagine it would seem decent if I was 10, but that doesn't help very much. This movie makes the Godzilla movie seem watchable. I wasn't expecting it be a great film by any stretch, but it sank below even the worst I could imagine. I hope it bombs hard.

Comparisons to the 1998 Godzilla movie make me think nobody has actually seen GINO.

This is probably the movie with the smallest "actual toy potential"/"what the toy potential should have been" ratio. Maybe there's toy potential for collectors, but for the wide market? Nope. It's just a movie that didn't seem appealing to kids, which are traditionally the most important target audience for toys.
I think you're confusing "the film did poorly" with "the film had no potential with kids."

Kids went to go see Tony Stark call a boy a pussy and Superman snap Zod's neck this summer. This movie did have too many swears, but it's hardly too dark or adult to attract a child audience. It's more that the film just never got an audience in the first place.

This film didn't do well. That's it.

Goddamn. How many movies have you seen in your life?

Eh, far be it from me to judge. If you don't like it, you don't like it.

I hope it bombs hard.

This is where I've gotta call you for just having a shit opinion, though. Tons of people got great enjoyment from this film, and you actively hope it bombs just because it wasn't your cup of tea?

I gotta say, the "I hope it bombs" mentality is one of the most dickish things ever. It's fine if you don't like, appreciate or enjoy something, but to hope that it gets taken away from those who do like, appreciate and enjoy it shows a blatant disregard for the opinions and tastes of others.

I mean, c'mon.

And...it's different depending on context, too. Say for example I say I hope Grown Ups 2 bombs (I don't actually care one way or the other). I say that because I think Hollywood could stand to produce less of these shallow, cynical sequels. Even if Grown Ups 2 bombs, we'll still get more movies just like it. We'll get a Grown Ups 3. If Pacific Rim bombs, that's it, we're done, no one's going to attempt that kind of niche movie again for decades, if they do at all. And say Pacific Rim finds great success. Who does it hurt? Are there people out there worried sick that Hollywood will suddenly be overtaken by anime-esque robot vs. monster flicks directed by GDT? SMH. Makes no damn sense.

No, I think the movie really didn't seem like it was made for kids. Not too dark for kids? I'd rather not spoil things in case someone accidentally clicks on it, but the intro sequence alone was maybe a bit too much for a (little) kid, let alone some of the shit that goes on later.

The action also seems rather unappealing to the mainstream. It's too slow and not enough "over the top, action on cocaine"-like for them. The movie isn't doing too well because it's just not too appealing for everyone. Also all fights at night/in the dark was annoying. I think most Superhero movies - even if they have *some* violence - have an advantage over this one.

I think it's not necessarily the Jaeger or Kaiju designs that's holding the toy potential back (as those worked surprisingly well), it's really the movie. Well, although I think for toys the Jaeger/Kaiju ight not be cartoony enough.
I disagree on the "too dark for kids" part. Just look at Star Wars. Luke's aunt and uncle were char-broiled into skeletons.

I disagree with you on the action, but if the mainstream audience thinks one way, well, I'll just hope I still keep getting films that appeal to my tastes.

Nah, it's perfectly fine. If you see a movie and it's shitty, you certainly don't want to see more of them.

The toy potential for this is off the charts. Not only are there like 5-6 mechs in the movie, but there were something like 30+ Jaegers in total and if Batman can have 10 variant costumes that weren't even in the fucking movie I don't see why they can't make toys of Jaegers that weren't seen in the film, plus battle damage variants and such. And that's just the robots, there are all kinds of Kaiju they could make toys from, but we only get Knifehead and Leatherback.

And if you think the movie is too dark to appeal to kids, there are R-rated action movies that get toy lines. There are stuffed bear toys from Ted, a movie I would never in a million years let a child watch. Jurassic Park movies are all pretty intense action and violence, and look at the toy line it has!

in fact Jurassic Park is the perfect example. It's a summer blockbuster, it's PG13 and full of scary action, swearing, and violence, but it's also dinosaurs so the toy line is out of control. There isn't really that much swearing or human violence in Pacific Rim, but it's giant monsters fighting giant robots, there should be a toy line big enough to fill the shatterdome.

But it's not perfectly fine.

If you see a movie and don't enjoy it, nobody is forcing you to see any subsequent sequels. However, a lot of people do enjoy Pacific Rim [myself included] and would love to see more. To deprive them of that by wishing the series "bombs" and no more are made simply because of your personal taste towards it? That's just not right.

Nah, it's perfectly fine. If you see a movie and it's shitty, you certainly don't want to see more of them.

You can just not go see them, though. At least the option's there for those who do enjoy it.

I mean, I disliked The Hunger Games when I saw it a couple of years ago. Does that mean I want people who really enjoyed it to miss out on the completion of the trilogy? No, it just means I'm not going to see Catching Fire this November. I save money and those who like the movie stay happy, it's as simple as that.

EDIT: Chrono gets it.

Yeah, it's not going to be a failure long term when factoring in ww sales and dvd / blu-ray, but the question now is will it make enough to warrant a sequel. I hope so....

its going to be a cult classic no matter what. That will put it over the edge no matter what. We will see a sequel one day

I don't watch many movies these days, maybe 4-6 live action movies per year (if even that) as a guesstimate, mostly just animu.

It had cool mechs and monsters, that does not excuse the characters, the dialogue, the acting, the pacing. Even I can derive enjoyment from the movie at times, but if I were to go further and say it's worth watching, worth paying to see, or even 'good' as a total package, I would be dishonest.

When I think of the money they blew on this movie and what could have been achieved,it makes me want to hurt people, heck I feel dirty having paid to see it. I want it to bomb because I cared, and I now feel nothing of value will be lost. It's kind of like some shit-tastic game selling 20 million copies, though a bit different.

I went by Toys R Us tonight and they didnt have any of the toys, i couldnt even find a spot where they were supposed to be. They had friggin World War Z toys though, i mean wtf....

Maybe if that game were a unique niche title released to massive praise that still sold like shit, like Psychonauts. I'm trying to wrap my head around your perspective but I can't. GDT made the movie he wanted to make, and the movie people wanted him to make.

Real-talk: what's the last good movie you've seen?

And seek help about that urge to hurt people - movies shouldn't make you feel that way, no matter how much you hated them.
